Oh no! I need to send you the link from Book Riot that counts down Brown's tropes by the numbers. E.g. how often they mention Robert's Mickey Mouse watch or how often he mentions he's claustrophobic. You'll have to let me know how it is because that article made me not want to read it. :/

Rose (harnessrose) | 60 comments I'm about half way done with Anna Karenina. And I just finished The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Now, I'm reading Princess in Love by Meg Cabot.

message 153: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm about a quarter way through Blindness and so far Jose Saramago doesn't seem to like quotation marks. But it's pretty interesting so far!

message 154: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 183 comments I finished The Guilt of Innocents and I like it very much. If you like medieval mystery, this is a series not to be missed. I read all these books. My review:

Now, I'm reading A Tale of Two Cities.

message 155: by Tee (new)

Tee It's non fiction month in my book club on Facebook so I'm reason A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking.

message 156: by Francie (new)

Francie Grice I'm reading Ender's Game (Audible version). My daughter has been begging that I read it as it is her favorite of all time.

message 157: by Becky (last edited Jun 06, 2013 03:53PM) (new)

Becky Rodriguez Right now I am about half-way through Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey (at the beginning of Volume 2). It is my first Austen.

message 158: by Anil (new)

Anil (loykalina) | 79 comments Just finished The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I'm 15% into Jane Eyre and will start Solaris tomorrow.

I read two books at the same time. A physical copy and an e-book via iBook or Kindle apps. That is why I've given the percentage for Jane Eyre.

message 159: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 464 comments Reading The Handmaid's Tale and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

message 160: by xenu01 (new)

xenu01 My husband is insisting that we read Gravity's Rainbow, because it's on both of our must-read lists but I've been dragging my feet on it for years. It's awfully slow-going thus far! I think we've read 10 pages.

Kaitlyn (kaitlynmallory) Jessica wrote: "Reading The Handmaid's Tale and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

I'm reading the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest also! I'm about 35 pages into it and am enjoying it. How do you like it?

message 162: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Hmm. I just finished Atlas Shrugged, Solaris, and The Phantom of the Opera (trying to keep ahead of you all, it's tough!). Getting ready to start The Village as a buddy review with Angie and as a fun read I'm reading Dark Descendant.

I am liking it. I had a little trouble getting into at the beginning due to the treatment of the patients. Just made me sad. But once you get to the 50/75 page mark it picks up with a good plot. :)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 183 comments I just finished Dubliners and I'm still reading A Tale of Two Cities.

message 165: by Tee (new)

Tee Jessica wrote: "Reading The Handmaid's Tale and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

I've read both of them.

Handmaid's Tale is a brilliant, polished and emotional story. It was the first of all my dystopian fiction titles and without it, I may have given up entirely on the genre. But no, I'm a dystopian fiend now!!

Cuckoo's Nest is also quite compelling. I picked it up used and I happen to have picked up a fairly rare edition apparently. Nurse Ratched is far more wicked in the book than the film BUT it she was also the best part of the film, playing her so very well.

I just picked this up today!!! Can't wait to dig my teeth into it.

message 167: by Nadja (new)

Nadja (nzie) | 16 comments I still haven't finished the books that my page lists as currently reading, and I have my spots saved in a bunch of books on my Kindle. BUT most recently I'm in:

The Wizard of Oz (read as a kid but re-reading and looking for the secret progressive agenda (anti-gold standard) I've heard about)
Margaret's Ark (I think it's a self-pub and it's taking a bit too long but it's interesting)
What's Wrong with the World (essays by my favorite author, GK Chesterton)
The Napoleon of Notting Hill (beloved reread by GKC)

I thought Phantom would take a lot longer than it did so started early only to finish within about 4 days (oops... hope I can remember what happens when for the discussion). So I think following some comments here I may try Les Mis - film was great, but I haven't done too many quite long novels in the past 2-3 years (I LOVED A Tale of Two Cities but that kind of tired me out for a while). :-)

message 168: by xenu01 (new)

xenu01 I also have multiple books open! I'm about 50 pages into Gravity's Rainbow (determined to finish but I need to break it into chunks), 1/6 of the way into Life After Life (Kate Atkinson) and I just started Lauren Willig's The Ashford Affair for lunch-break reading.

message 169: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 183 comments I just finished A Tale of Two Cities and I started Long John Silver. Now I want to take the old habits and read one book at time.

Ender's Game is excellent! I just read it last week!

Scarlett is terrible. Absolute crap. Better not...

On another note, I'm reading Gulliver's Travels currently! First part down, three to go. Great stuff!

message 172: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Reading The Secret History and our side read of The Year of the Gadfly. It seemed like an interesting combination. Also I'm reading Indexing which is a Kindle serial which updates every two weeks with a new segment until the book is complete. It's a fun idea, I like it a lot.

I've barely started Gadfly, but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's a YA book which says a lot for me since I generally don't read a lot of the category. Special Topics sounds really interesting though. Man, now I'm going to have to add another book to my ever growing TBR list. :) Thanks!

message 175: by Chiara (new)

Chiara Toniolo (chiaratoniolo) I'm reading Dubliners, by James Joyce. I've always wanted to read it, ever since I first saw it in a bookstore a few months ago. I ended up finally getting in at the library last week. I'm halfway through and I am not disappointed. I love how he portrays common Irish families during a period of instability in such a simple yet enchanting writing style.

I finished this book about ten days ago. I agree with you about the style, but the stories leave me little stunned. In general it's not clear the sense, it's a simple narration of a fact or situation.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 208 comments Just finished Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Wow, what a read! It's long, but boy, some good, interesting stuff in there!

On deck I have Cloud Atlas and Gulliver's Travels.

message 185: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 208 comments I started and abandoned Cloud Atlas this morning, so you'll have to let me know what you think.

I do, however, highly recommend Never Let Me Go.

Tee Never Let Me Go has me hooked.
I WAS going to watch a movie, but I had to stop it so I could go back to reading it.....so very good. I hope to finish it tonight, in fact. And I just started it yesterday.....lol

Reading The Year of the Gadfly and The Windup Girl atm.

I read it with my husband, and there was so much temptation to skip ahead- such a good book! I did find it interesting that everyone was white in the movie, since it kind of seemed as if Ishiguro deliberately avoided mentioning race throughout the entire book.

message 194: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 183 comments I finished Long John Silver, a novel on sailors and pirates, based on the character of the book "Treasure Island". A good story, interesting and fascinating
but whose strength is the expectation of a link with the orignal story of Stevenson.

message 195: by Beth (bibliobeth) (new)

Beth (bibliobeth) | 36 comments Never Let Me Go is great! I'm about to start Ancient Light by John Banville.
