Toffeeelmo | 10 comments I read this book about ten years ago, don't know how old it was at the time. The main character is a teenage girl who either moves into a new house or gets a new mirror in her bedroom. The mirror, which is old and worn, contains the ghost of a teenage girl from a hundred or so years ago. They find out that the spirit can take over the girl's body with her permission and they begin to let the spirit take over her body on a regular basis while the main character waits in the mirror. One day the spirit comes back and refuses to switch back into the mirror.

I realise that's all very vague but these are the only details I remember and it's driving me crazy trying to figure out what this book is! Any help is much appreciated.

Toffeeelmo | 10 comments Unfortunately it doesn't look like it after reading the synopsis, but thanks for the suggestion!

As far as I can remember when the main character is in the mirror she is literally left watching her room until the spirit comes back with her body, so she doesn't experience this spirit's past life.

dragongrli | 40 comments Well, I created this list of all of the related stories that I could find: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/33...

None of these sound like it though.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Related is The Mirror - this is about switching bodies over many years, and not voluntarily or repetitively, so it's considered a sort of Time Travel story.

Toffeeeelmo, do you think it's possible you're conflating two stories that you maybe read about the same time? I know my memory plays that trick on me often.

Erin, creating that list is a great idea - thank you.

Toffeeelmo | 10 comments Erin thanks so much for that list, that's really appreciated! Mirror Mirror is probably the closest but it's only a year old so can't be it. Cheryl the facts I'm sure about are that the main character in trapped in the mirror and can't go anywhere and the character in the mirror doesn't look like her, but is from the past. It's entirely possible I'm mixing stories up, it's been a while since I read it but none of the stories on the list ring any bells.

Lou Rocama | 457 comments could it be a short story?

Melanie | 12 comments It sounds similar to a Lois Duncan book; maybe Stranger With My Face?

Toffeeelmo | 10 comments It was a book I got out of the library, so I don't imagine it was a short story. Stranger With my Face isn't it either I'm afraid, the girl who takes over the main character's body isn't related to her as far as I can recall. Not much to go on I know but thanks for the ideas!

Sounds a little like The Accident, but I think the girl in the mirror is the girl's grandmother or other relative, so maybe not.

Toffeeelmo | 10 comments That's it Andria! How you got that after my completely non-helpful details I'll never know- thank you! And thanks to everyone for your help, so thrilled I've found the book at last!
