Michelle Cameron (michellecameron) | 9 comments Hi everyone,

I guess I'm next to introduce myself. I've been a bit of a lurker on Goodreads, but I'm familiar with the site, and have enjoyed discovering new books to read.

I am also a writer, and now finally, a novelist. My favourite genre for writing is Chick Lit romance, with oodles of humour thrown in. For reading, I love romance, science fiction, and good clean who dunnits.

Thank you, and hope to make a few new friends :)

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Michelle! I love reading Chick Lit w/ lots of humor too but writing it is way more fun :) Thanks for joining the group!

Christina (channelle_writes) | 11 comments Oh, I'm glad I stumbled upon this group :)

Hi!

My name is Christina and I'm a new self-published author. My debut novel, DAHLIA, is the first in a series. I've been vigorously working on the sequels so I've been busy, busy, lol. I love reading and writing both YA fantasy and contemporary books.

You can check out my writing style on my blog if you'd like http://www.channellewrites.wordpress.com.

It's great connecting with more indie authors and lovers of indie books. :) Feel free to add me as a friend or connect via FB http://www.facebook.com/ChristinaChan... and/or Twitter @channellewrites

And if you have any questions for me about my writing journey, I'd be happy to answer.

Nice meeting you all!

Christina

Katie Daniels Hello everybody! I wrote a blog post this morning ranting about discrimination against Indie authors, and then thought maybe I should find an actual indie author group to balance all the negativity I run into, so here I am.

I am Katie Lynn Daniels, I am the author of a children's picture book "The Tale of Pirate Shishkabob" and a superhero fiction parody series called "Supervillain of the Day." The third book comes out May 3rd, the fourth books comes out June 4th, and it is about a world overrun by supervillains, without any superheroes to stop them. The only thing standing between humanity and utter destruction is an eccentric reporter living in London, England, who is definitely more than he seems.

And that was a terrible logline because I seem to have lost the one I had before and had to make up a new one on the fly. Anyway, links!

Supervillains: Supervillainoftheday.com

I look forward to getting to know ya'll!

B.B. Shepherd (bbshepherd) | 18 comments Hello, I just found this group--thank you Jessica for this thread! As a reader, I read all genres, indie or not, but admit to being partial to fantasy and Regency romance. :P

As a writer, I have an eclectic assortment of future titles in mind, but my current (and first) novel is Bronze. It's the first in The Glister Journals, a series about a young girl (14 in the first book) who experiences life a little differently than most kids and about the friends she makes--their stories are just as important as hers. They introduce her to the world of horses, close friendships and, eventually, romance. The story has many themes, but assumptions and how things are not always as they appear is central.

The Glister Journals Bronze by B.B. Shepherd
It is a long but easy read and is more character driven than most YA as far as I can tell. First chapters can be read here. It will be available in e-book (hopefully by summer) and the second book is on track for an early 2014 release.

I look forward to meeting everyone! :)

Hi B.B.! Glad you joined =)

I'm reading "Bronze" right now, and I'm enjoying it though it's been a long time since I read any mainstream contemporary, but I do like the characters a lot =)

Yay! I'm so happy to hear it. :) I was afraid it might be too "teenage angst" for you. I'm almost done with your On a Foreign Field: A Story of Loyalty and Brotherhood. It's a great story, though also not what I would normally read. I was a bit afraid you might be too graphic at the end (you know) but you weren't! I'll never be able to watch that movie again! LOL. (I'm squirming inside just remembering it!) Anyway, I'm looking forward to see how it plays out in the end. :)

I personally think too graphic death scenes (especially ones like that) take away from the meaning and sentimentality of them. Plus there are so many other writers who obviously seem to relish the gory details, and I wanted to take a different turn with mine, so glad you liked ;)

I don't think your book is too angsty either, at least not yet anyway lol :P Frankly, as long as a book isn't like Twilight, I don't really care. Your book actually reminds me of reading Trixie Belden even though it's not a mystery. It's kind of nice to read something different.

message 119: by B.B. (new)

B.B. Shepherd (bbshepherd) | 18 comments LOL...I can't speak to Twilight and I've never heard of Trixie Belden, but I'm happy you like it so far. (How far are you into it?)

I have two blogs that i try to write on regularly and i'm an aspiring indie author who will release her first YA fantasy novel in september. I'm also taking reviews ESPECIALLY indie books.I prefer books that feature diverse themes but now with my review list so small i'm considering anything.

http://guinandlibertadtomas.blogspot....

This one is more like the steps we're taking to make our indie book the best it can be and tips on how to consider every possibility deciding the self publishing route. If any aspiring authors aren't really sure one what outlets are out there when you publish independently link up to our blog and we hope to share what we're doing and still doing to try to get our book in as many heads as possible :)

Oh goodness first I have to say it's quite an honor to even be on the same thread with all of you. I have been a fan of indie books since about 2 years ago when I was 15 and just searching around the internet when I stumbled upon some reading material that was quite good! I was disgusted at the amount of hate the book got since it was self published! Ever since then it has been a personal dream to self publish some poetry and a couple novels. It's an awful feeling when you have a story in your mind and you don't have the ability to share it with others.
I know I'm quite young (17) and hope that you all don't mind! Writing is my passion and I put all of my heart and soul into it and I just would like to share it with others!
I look forward to meeting all of you, sharing my writing and promoting your writing to anyone who will listen.
Thank you!

I've written the first two books of a fantasy series but I like to dabble in sci-fi as well. This seems like a good, tight-knit group. I'm looking forward to contributing!

Sharon Puthur | 2 comments Hi I am Sharon Puthur from Bangalore, India. I am a new author. Truly Indie n proud! I've written a book titled "May 28". Its about 2 pranksters who always get away with everything till destiny in turn plays a prank on them. The genre is family drama with romance n comedy n bits of horror.

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) | 4 comments Greetings fellow indies!

I haven't self-published yet, but I'm considering doing so late 2013 / early 2014. For now, I'm exploring the world of self-publishing, so I thought this group would be interesting!

I write crime fiction and am currently in the last edit of my first book. I look forward to chatting with you all :)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) | 4 comments Thanks, Cat! I'm pretty sold on self-publishing not only for the freedom, but the creative experiment quality of it. I guess it's the logistics that I'm still exploring, so that once I've finished my last edit I'm ready to go.

message 149: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Chartier (nikchartier) Welcome Susan! I remember just 2-3 years ago when self pubbing was so taboo and a 'career killer.' Now it's a very acceptable option. I look forward to reading your work! :)

message 150: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) | 4 comments Thanks, Nikki! It's amazing how everything's changed in even just a year's time. I remember last spring, agents were all saying absolutely not to self-publishing and now a majority of them are supporting it (for the right writers, of course).
