Heidi Angell (heidiangell) What is everyone doing for New Years? I am planning my schedule for book releases and promotions next year, working on goals lists with my family, and probably watching Merlin! We are Netflixing and on season 2. We love to binge, so we waited a bit on this one!

I never worked out the html coding (I'm sure it's out there with a google search) I just copy and pasted from someone else who was using them

Stephanie - Do you have a Mac? I know on my computer I go to edit, then special characters. The check mark and many other symbols are in there. You just select it and click insert. I'm not sure how similar it is on a PC.

message 2009: by Nick (new)

Nick (fire69) | 150 comments Kristie, I have a mac and don't see special characters in the edit drop down. I do see a lot of symbols in the Emoji and symbols under the edit drop down. Is that the same thing you are talking about?

Sorry the newer Mac says "emoji & symbols". (My old, old mac said special characters.)

message 2011: by Nick (new)

Nick (fire69) | 150 comments Ha Ha. I thought I had the old mac. Mine is mid 2012.

Yeah... I don't remember what year we got mine, but it's really old. It's a big beast. We recently got a new one, because the old one is so heavy it is practically a desktop. lol I brought it in for a repair about a year ago and the guy said, "Oh wow...I haven't seen one of these in forever..." Sad that I've been using the new one for a while now and still giving the old directions because I had it for so long. :)

message 2013: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
So, new instructions...on a typical, not ancient, Mac you click on "emoji & symbols" at the bottom of the "edit" drop down, then just click on the symbol you want. I use this for check marks, stars, etc. As Lynn stated, copying and pasting works as well.

message 2014: by Nick (new)

Nick (fire69) | 150 comments old habits are hard to break! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something on mine. Thats usually my luck, buy a new laptop, and only get half the software....

Elle | 14 comments Wishing everyone a happy & healthy new year full of good books, endless discovery & learning and happy times spent with loved one and friends. And, I hope Lynn and others who have had a hard holiday season are starting the new year of on a brighter note.

message 2019: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments My shortcut for geeks has been erased (don't know what happened) so here I go again...
Click control and command and space and it opens the emoji & symbols panel

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Lol - I was wondering why your post said "for the geeks" and nothing else. :)

message 2021: by Nick (new)

Nick (fire69) | 150 comments I figured she was calling us that Kristie! LOL!

message 2022: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Something weird is happening here! I just posted a message on another thread and half of it disappeared. I had to go back and rewrite it, very annoying!!!! It's the third truncated comment in less than 24h.
Has this happened to anyone else? (currently copying my whole comment, just in case).

message 2023: by Nick (new)

Nick (fire69) | 150 comments yeah, this happened to me as well, Savanes. I noticed while I was typing out the post the words never shoed up after the first couple sentences. I deleted the 'spaces' or invisible words, tried again and nothing. Did that a couple times, then magically they reappeared and started working like normal from that point on.

message 2024: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments I'm not alone! ;)

Did you see the Goodreads blog list of 20 Things All Book Lovers Wish Someone Would Say to Them? What do you think? What would you wish someone would say to you? Personally, I'll stick with #3!! I certainly wouldn't mind #6 and I wish my mom would catch on to #20 lol Anyone have something they'd add?

message 2028: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Love this ,Kristie . Thanks for posting. I really like 1,3 5, 8,9 , especially # 5 .

I know! My mom loves to start a discussion when she sees me reading. It's like she thinks you are not doing anything if you're reading, which is weird because she likes to read too. lol

Sad day today. I can't believe that David Bowie & Alan Rickman both died this week. Both were only 69 years old and incredibly talented men that died from cancer.

I see the picture and I'm like "YES! Thats one of the books I've been waiting for!!!!"
And I click too fast and read too slow and before I realize it.... I've requested a preview and not the book.
Sigh.
