Any idea if we can add multiple dates for books read- for each separate read I mean- I used to be able to do this on Shelfari but can't find how to do this here or whether it is at all possible. Someone did tell me that we can't do this...

I would like to be able to remove books that I started reading but didn't like, right now I have them in abandoned."If they are populating in your annual challenge, that means you have a "finished" date filled in. GR will pull any book with a finished date for that year into your challenge, regardless of which exclusive shelf you have it on. So if you abandon something and you don't want it to count, you have to take the finished date off. (I dealt with this by making nonexclusive shelves with the year, and shelving everything I DNF that year on them along with everything I read, so I have a history for my own happiness of all the books I encountered, as well as not counting abandoned books toward my challenge.)

Unfortunately, no. Goodreads is officially working on rereads (thread in the Feedback group is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) but no progress. Until then, most people shelve a second edition with the new read dates for a reread count.

Lady Clementina wrote: "That's an idea- I've just been changing the dates on my read list so far."I did that at first, but I resented the fact that it changed the past history, and now that I've reread a couple of books I read last year, I would be really annoyed when it changed the tallies for my 2015 challenge, so I always just do a second edition now.

That would be annoying. So far I've been keeping track on shelfari so it didn't bother me that my book count was not correct here but looks like from now on, this is what I'll have to do.
Kara wrote: "Catherine, if you go to My Books then stats, you can select "pages" rather than "books" to see how many pages you've read."Thanks, Kara!
I never noticed the 'stats' button! It is amazing!
o hope someone reads this!! this is my 3rd year doing the reading challenge and I've never had any issue with the widget on my (blogger) blog or the shelf to put the books read in the year until the last few weeks. I look at what I've actually read which is showing correctly on one of the "books read I in 2016" but incorrectly on the one that links up to the widget.
a little confused as to why I'm having this problem now when I've been ok the last 3 years!!!
any help appreciated! !!
thanks
my computer recently died and now I use my phone all the time. I'm trying to figure out a way to copy and paste the challenges to my own corner list to keep track of. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy 6 but it's not working. help?
Unfortunately without a computer, you are probably going to be out of luck. Goodreads does not make doing things on mobile very easy, so unless you are willing to type everything out, you are going to have to find a computer. I'm really sorry.
"Thanks, Kara!I never noticed the 'stats' button! It is amazing!"
I recently found this and was like 'wow, awesome!'
Eldrid, maybe you can use a computer at a nearby library? Alternatively, you can open GR on your phone's web browser. I have an iphone so not sure it's exactly the same, but after you open GR in your browser, there should be a way to click to the Desktop option. From there, you should be able to do everything you can do on a computer, but everything will be tiny.
Is there a link to "officially" sign up for the 2017 Reading Challenge yet, or have they not posted it yet? I was thinking the 2016 link was on the home page about halfway down on the right hand side, but I haven't found one for the new year yet.
How do I find my 2016 Reading Challenge -- I got a fancy graphic with the # of books and # of pages and all other fun things, but where did it go? I even looked under the couch!
I found the link in a blog post, but I don't know any other ways to find it. You can jump directly to it here.Happy 2017!
How frustrating! The link has /user/ so there must be a way ... but for now I am keeping this link... Thanks!!! BTW "a blog post"?? You mean there is a Goodreads blog? I just reviewed Goodreads Author Barb Drozdowich's new book An Author's Guide to Goodreads: How to Network with Millions of Readers ... even she admits GR is a rabbits' warren!
Goodreads has a blog - the articles appear pretty far down the homepage righthand sidebar. The current blog post is about the 2017 challenge.
I.m still having trouble counting re-reads- I did manage to add new editions a couple of times but now it seems only to allow me to switch editions rather than add new ones.
Lady Clementina wrote: "I.m still having trouble counting re-reads- I did manage to add new editions a couple of times but now it seems only to allow me to switch editions rather than add new ones."I'm sorry for your troubles. I haven't really found a good solution myself. I'm also hoping Goodreads will find another, easier way of counting them.
Maybe someone else can chime in how they do it. I know we have discussed it before and someone had a solution I just can't remember what it was.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but what I do when I re-read a book is clear out the old information and restart everything. Next to the rating is a link that says "clear" and then I move the book from my "read" shelf to my "to-read" shelf, and I clear out the dates I started and finished and put in the new dates that I started and finished.
That will remove the book from your older challenges but will work for making it count this year. There is endless discussion (and anger) about GR's failure to implement a way to count rereads in the Goodreads Feedback group. Here is but one thread if you're interested. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Precisely- so far this never bothered me because I kept track on shelfari which let one add multiple read dates but now I don't really want to spoil my previous challenges. Initially when I asked about this (its just above on this page) shelving a second edition seemed to work but now I can only switch rather than add multiple eds. I was wondering If I am doing something wrong there.
There is the ability when you review the book to list the number of times you have read the book. Does that make any difference?
Kadijah Michelle wrote: "There is the ability when you review the book to list the number of times you have read the book. Does that make any difference?"The read date (as far as I can see) still remains the original one or new if one changes it - so it would probably only count towards one reading goal.

Hi! How do I find the topic that I started? I just found it by "my groups" --> "2017 Reading Challenge" --> "2017 Personal Challenge: 1-50" and finding my topic from there. Is there an easier way?
Ayca wrote: "Hi! How do I find the topic that I started? I just found it by "my groups" --> "2017 Reading Challenge" --> "2017 Personal Challenge: 1-50" and finding my topic from there. Is there an easier way?"Hey Ayca!
The easiest way (and what I personally do) is probably by bookmarking your personal challenge and your corner. That way it's always in my favorites for easy access.
If you have your name or something characteristic to distinguish your topic title, you can use the search bar at the top. But you'll still have to go through the "my groups--> "2017 Reading Challenge" process first :)

Hello,I've been trying to add my yearly goal into the 2017 Reading Challenge discussion but every time I try to add it to the appropriate folder, it tells me that I cannot add a topic because my email is not verified. I do receive emails almost daily from Goodreads and I am able to do essentially everything else on here so I'm confused on how to get my email verified. Is there anyone that can help me with this?
Hi Natalie! This is a known issue with Goodreads unfortunately. You can click here to re-send the email verification request if you didn't get it or can't find it.

Glad to be back. Sorry I deleted myself from this amazing group by trying to undo something else. Does Love For Reading still have the "I'm challenging to read _______books in 2017"? I had signed up and put some in but now I can't find it. Thanks all.
Hi Becky! I'm not totally sure if you're in the right group yet. We're not called Love For Reading, but we do have a personal challenge where you can set a yearly reading goal.Let me know if you have any other questions!
I know many of you hoped Goodreads would develop a better way to track re-reads. It is still a work in progress but it does look like it is being worked on!https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/8...

Hurrah- just what I was waiting for!!!
hope this is the right topic for my problemMy 2017 shelf and the book ticker is off by 2. I checked for rereads and dupicliate editions, doesn't seem to be the problem. any solution besides deleting and readding
Hi Teresa, sometimes there's a delay due to caching. I would give it some time, and if the problem persists, I'd contact Goodreads support.
I hope I didn't just overlook it on here:Can someone tell my how I can add an audiobook version of a book I have added as a regular book already?
(I own both the books and audiobooks of the first and second part of Colfer's WARP-trilogy, and as I want to read part II soon and it's been a while since reading part I, I wanted to freshen my memory via the audiobook. And I seem only to be able to switch editions or "reread", not to add the audiobook separately as an item, even though they've different isbns.)
Help or links to where this has been answered already will be greatly appreciated. :)
Click on the book on your bookshelf and then explore the versions. There should be an option for the audio book edition and you can either switch editions or add the book.
As far as I saw I could only switch editions, but not add the audio book version separately. Could you try and describe where the option for adding should be? I must have overlooked it.
Edit:
I managed it after some fumbling. I finally discovered the option you were talking about somewhere near the bottom of the page, saying "review this edition". With that workaround I managed. :) Thank you for your help. :)
I know it's frustrating. Goodreads does need some work to become more user friendly, but I'm glad you figured it out.
Nice new feature is u can have multiple reads of the same book. So now I don't worry about including a separate audiobook version I just do 2 reads on the main version.
