That cover isn't too bad. Its definitely better than the other clown one.

This is the cover my copy has too.

Man I loved this book. I'm dropping some books I'm currently reading to jump on this group read.

Hi Ho Silver awaaaaaaaay!

Also, what an important book in American literature. Without this book, we might not be able to view videos of evil clowns jumping out at people on Facebook. Thanks Stephen King!

Famine (wolfcreed) Would anybody mind if I did an It buddy read next month or the one after?

I've been itching to reread It but I came into this group too late. So envious of you all. I am a slow reader (5 chapters or so a night) so it will be a s-l-o-w buddy read ;)

susie hawes (ghostposts) | -4 comments I loved this one. Will enjoy re-reading it.

message 57: by M. (new)

M. Purkiss (mpurkiss) IT the book is so much more involved than the film. I watched the film first and thought it was about the clown. But after reading the book and pennywise not being feautured as prominantly as i thought he would and rather the fears of the residents of derry it took this book to another level. i absolutely love this book/story. i immediately saw afterwards that the film did not give the book justice. (although i still love it)

You don't need permission from anyone to do a buddy read. I suggest you post in the buddy read section when you're ready to read it, to see if anyone is willing to read it with you.

message 64: by H.L. (new)

H.L. Walton | 20 comments I actually Googled 'It' covers and there are so many.

message 65: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) The 25th anniversary edition cover is also sweet :)

On that note I wish you all luck with your group read, since I am not a part of it being late to the party ;) I'll leave you all to it! Enjoy It!

message 66: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments You're not that late, Wolf, though if the length is putting you off that's a different story.

Like a number of other folks here, this is my favorite King novel. Don't recall exactly when I last read it, so not sure whether or not I'll tackle it again this time around, but more than happy to participate in the discussions. Will see if I'm up for a go at it after I'm done with a BotM from another group, Station Eleven.

message 67: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) I am a very slow reader because of my limited mobility, so anything longer than 300 or so pages isn't a good group challenge for me :(

I think I last read It in early high school, so 2001... Nostalgia!

Oh that's great too. I love comparing the different covers. The good thing about popular books if you have a variety to choose from

You mean from Cemetary Dance? I agree those are the best ones

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments I just finished this book for the first time, and I really enjoyed the story. It was a group read at work.

Char | 17469 comments That's cool Jenn.

message 73: by M. (new)

M. Purkiss (mpurkiss) i think anyone who has watched the film and are reading the book for the first time will be plesently surprised.

message 74: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) The film is one of my top 10 favourites :D Tim Curry as Pennywise or nothing. The cast choices were perfect. I can't wait to read it again so I can compare the differences between the book and the movie. (It didn't ruin it for me at all)

message 75: by Kieron (new)

Kieron | 2 comments I am listening to the audio book and I am about 30% in. There are are definitely differences between the book and the film. It's been a long time since I saw the film, I think I might revisit it after I finish the book.

message 76: by Monica (new)

Monica Go | 901 comments I watched the movie a million times, before I even knew it was a book. I still love it. I hope they will make soon the re-make I heard about.

H.L. Walton | 20 comments Aaron(Retrobeat) wrote: "IT: the BEST and SCARIEST Stephen King book."

Agreed Aaron. I haven't read it in years and as soon as I started reading the Georgie scene I was suddenly reminded how creepy this one is :-)

I read they were starting the remake summer 2015 so probably about another year before the movie is out. I can't wait!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 958 comments IT really needs to remade as a better movie IMO. And I'm usually against remakes, so Im curious. Hope they do a good job.

I hope it's good too. The remake of Carrie was brilliant!

message 82: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Stroemquist (poorlonesomecowboy) I think this will be my forth or possible fifth read of IT; it's been more years than I care to count since last though. I first read it in my late teens and I know I had Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and The Dead Zone under my belt prior, but this book was definitely something else! 200 pages or so in, I'd say it still is!

By the mid-80's King was a huge name in Sweden and the translated first edition for this was a huge two-volume hardback in a carton slipcase. I really like the cover of that one, even though the trademark hair is missing(!). It's a bit different take on the clown though:
Det by Stephen King

This will be my first read in original language also and that's always fun!

message 84: by T. (new)

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments I read the first 800 pages on a vacation a few years back but didn't quite finish it. I think I'm going to dig into the full beast from the very get-go. I'm a little behind the ball, but hopefully I can get caught up.

I have a huge fondness for that cover. I started reading SK back when that style dominated the covers of all of his books.

Love that tie in, missed it the first time. Wonder if he smelled oranges right before the fire started...

I'd like to see it done as a mini-series. It's possible to do a great job of it as a movie, but you lose so much by compressing it into such a limited format.

message 89: by Alison (new)

Alison Sumprer | 8 comments I love IT. I listened to the audiobook about a year ago and it was so creepy. I have a paperback copy I've been looking for as well. I feel that this is definitely one of King's more interesting (and scary) novels.

It's already a mini-series - it's not that I'm against that time length format, but I think the mini-series made for TV restrictions is what hurt is so badly. Lower budget, have to be incredibly watered down for scares, effects and story. If they could do a four hour movie that gets an R-rating and could be released to theatres, that would work well....but the costs of that would be higher.

message 91: by Walter (last edited Jul 09, 2015 08:01AM) (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments I was thinking more along the lines of an HBO or Netflix series. TV restrictions might be too, um, restrictive, but we've seen some great stuff from television of late that really pushes the boundaries (Breaking Bad, etc.).

I very much agree; I was having this discussion just the other day and not too long ago, you could tell if you were watching a TV show or a feature film by the quickest glance on a screen - with the quality in everything from effects to image quality to acting and editing I'd say it's not so anymore.

message 93: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (xoxoshannon1979) | -14 comments i read this one again last month still IMO Stepehn King best

Here is my copy
It by Stephen King

message 94: by Myst (new)

Myst | 408 comments Only about 100 pages in. I *really* need to try and aim for 100 pages a day or else I won't be able to finish it in time. I'm not hauling IT onto an airplane unless in e-book format which none of my libraries have.

So far I think the movie was creepier than the book.

message 95: by Mel (new)

Mel Miller (melthebookguzzlermiller) | 12 comments I'm on page 522 already! I love this book so much I could read it over and over again!!!

You're right on that. Back then they were a lot more restrictive and it was for a more generalized audience I think.

Elizabeth Bingham (seekjustice117) | 32 comments I just got back from vacation and couldn't find a paperback of this to take with me, so I'm only just now stating my hardback. I'm 77 pages in and I LOVE this book.

message 98: by T. (new)

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments I'm going to listen to the Audible version this time around, see what I can get out of it. I just finished Ellroy's 'White Jazz,' so I'm glad to have a change of pace.

message 99: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Murray (victoria-murray) | 7 comments I first read It when I was about 14/15 and I couldn't put it down. Friends would ring me to see if I was coming out and I'd make up excuses about baby-sitting so I could stay in and carry on reading! I've read it since as an adult but it wasn't quite the same second time round, don't know why. Great book though, hope you all enjoy it.

PS: Don't know if anyone else has noticed this but... when I read it the first time, I seemed to notice clowns everywhere, on posters, on tv, in magazines. It started to creep me out a bit. Also, I still get the creeps if I ever spot a lone balloon in an unexpected place!

message 100: by T. (new)

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments I read the first 80% or so some years ago, and I'm intent on finishing it this time.

I'm interested to know what people think of the novel's early sexual politics. The (spoiler) death of a gay character early on is really quite interesting. For me, the book uses some anti-gay language, though only in service of being more inclusive of the victims.

Anyway, I thought it might start an interesting discussion.
