Deborah (brandiec) The Kindle version of Last Days is on sale right now for $2.99, so if we're going to pick it for our July group read, now would be the time to make that decision. I'm sure I'm not the only one who votes based on what I already own or can buy cheaply.

If you buy it and it don't win I'm sure the people who have already said they are interested would probably do a buddy read.

Addy | 1944 comments Good to know. Thanks for the input everyone!

message 254: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments Ex-Heroes is $1.99 for the Kindle. I'd consider reading that one if I had the time, especially since I recently won the newest in the series. I won Last Days through Goodreads and have read most of it. I didn't care the beginning and the ending was starting to disinterest me. I may finish it at some point, but I'm not sure. The middle part was great, I will say that. I looked up book info on his other novels and decided I likely won't be getting any others from him unless I win them. I like long novels at times, but don't think I could get into an author who only writes really long novels unless I find them really good at the form, which is not the impression I got from the book.

Yes, either. Especially Salticidae.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Ok salticidae for my second nomination it is.

message 259: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (brandiec) I would vote for Salticidae, too.

July poll is.up https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

I may do something different next month, keep an eye on the "how do you want to do this" Thread for details and to weigh in with your opinion. I will post my idea tonight

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I'm thinking its been too long since I've read something from Richard Laymon. Would anyone be interested in either
After Midnight by Richard Laymon Come Out Tonight by Richard Laymon or Into the Fire by Richard Laymon ??

message 264: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I would vote for any of those.

After Midnight is great. I recently read Into The Fire and that was good too.

With Blake crouches book series being made into a tv series that's about to come out I have been seeing his name everywhere and I'm kind of in the mood for one of his books. The only one I haven't read is Run so I'm thinking of nominating it.

message 267: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 703 comments Mod
That's a good one too! I love most of his books and would vote for it.

message 269: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I have After Midnight. I've been itchin to read a laymon book too.

message 270: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments After Midnight it is. I would also vote for a Crouch book. I've never read him.

Addy | 1944 comments When are we nominating books for September?

message 272: by Justin (last edited Aug 20, 2014 09:07AM) (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
August tenth.
Oh shit, did I miss two whole weeks of moderator duty?
Good thing we normally leave a week before it starts and are only a couple days into this week. I will start a thread right now and the poll will go up next week. The group read will have to start as soon as the poll end. Sorry everyone. Thanks for pointing it out addy, third shift is really screwing me up especially since I have been working twelve hour shift the last few weeks.

message 273: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Actually, on second hand I don't think 3 days to submit ideas is enough for people to see it. I am making a poll that will start now and end next Saterday with write in votes, be sure to check at the end of next week for new nominations and change your vote if you see something you would rather read submitting last minute. Again, sorry guys.

Please let me know how it works out, I sent a broadcast message out to get attention to it fast.

message 275: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments That's ok Justin. 12 hr shifts are tiring I bet. Just thought I wud say something since HA put out their poll, I thought we were behind maybe.

message 276: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Yea way behind. It's mostly because with my days being split I never know what day it is, then when I do nothing but cone home and go to sleep and wake up and go to work it's even worse. I'm glad you said something though.

I know how that is! Had to do several exercises in the Army that lasted two weeks each and were 12 hour shift , which pretty much turned into 13-14 hour shifts in my Military Intelligence unit. Never knew what day it was after a couple days of that, and also didn't care, lol

message 278: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Yea, it's hard to care what day it is when my weekends are spent sitting by myself reading while everyone else is asleep. I don't even keep track anymore.

message 279: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Looks like our poll has disappeared completely. I don't know what happened but it is kind of late to set anything else up now. Maybe we can make September buddy read month or something.

message 280: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Oh no!! I remember last it being a tie between Darkness and Addicted. Maybe a tie breaker poll?

message 281: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Does anybody still have the broadcast message with the link to it that they could click on and see what happens? I don't think that allowing write ins would let group members edit or delete the poll so it must be a goodreads glitch.

Addy wrote: "Oh no!! I remember last it being a tie between Darkness and Addicted. Maybe a tie breaker poll?"

I would read both of those, I'm not really sure what to do right now though.

message 283: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (brandiec) In the Dark of the Night was the winner, with four votes.

message 284: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
The voting shouldn't have ended until the 30th. I don't even see the poll in the polls section with the other ones that have ended, where do you see that at? Maybe it's an update issue with my phone or something.

message 285: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (brandiec) I did what you suggested and followed the link from the original broadcast message. You're correct that it says the poll ends on August 30; since I already voted, I don't know if the write-in option still appears for those who haven't. Here's the breakdown:

In the Dark of the Night: 4
Addicted to the Dead: 3
Witch Water: 2
Ghost Story: 2
Evil and the Mask: 1
Rogue: 1
Origin: 1

message 286: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Could you possibly send the link to me so I can find the poll and see if I can fix it so it is showing for everyone again? It's got to be a goodreads glitch so maybe it will fix itself.

message 287: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Or even better, copy and paste the link right here for everyone.

message 289: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Thanks! I clicked edit and feature on group homepage and it is now showing in the polls section again as well as the homepage. That was weird, I appreciate the help.

Our winner for next month was origin by ja konrath, 25% spoilers just went up. There are a couple other nominations that I would be willing to do buddy reads, I will list them in the buddy read thread though and see if anyone wants to join.

I'm thinking about suggesting with Highways to Hell since we have never done a short story collection, or maybe The Strain would anyone want to vote for either of those?

message 292: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) I haven't been too active reading since my recent job change, but I would really like to read The Strain.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments I would like to read The Stain too. I'm usually up for almost any buddy read. :)
