Emerson bit her lip before breaking into a smirk. "Sure," she said, standing up and taking off her jacket. She only paused for a second before slipping out of her dress as well standing only in her bra and panties, not caring that Bones was probably watching. She set it on the bench before lifting herself up on the rail of the dock and diving in smoothly.

As Emerson resurfaced from ducking when Bones jumped in, she studied his body. If she still didn't believe in sexiness, then Bones was definitely starting to change her mind. In attempt to swipe certain thoughts from her mind, she ducked her head under the water, swooping her hair back so it wasn't plastered to her face. It didn't help, because Bones still looked the same, but she figured she looked stupid herself.
Emerson couldn't think of anything to say, so instead, she swooped her hand through the water to splash him, her face breaking into a grin.

Emerson rolled her eyes when he ducked below water but protested with, "Hey-!" when he swam away, trying to swipe one of his ankles but missing terribly. When he broke water again, she chuckled and dove after him, swimming like a mermaid or whatever she'd seen little girls do before. She shot up in front of Bones and used both hands to splash him this time, laughing.

Emerson laughed, smoothing her hair back again as she swirled her hands in the water. "What do you mean? Like at night?" She furrowed her brow, ducking her shoulders below the water and leaning back to look at the stars.

"I swear, that night I was only out-" Emerson stopped when she remembered Bones had no remembrance of bumping into her at that club. "I usually stay home... And read." She pursed her lips. "Or I'll go out for a walk or something. The shop is closed at night, but the infirmary isn't, so I have to be careful." She shrugged under the water. "What about you?"

Though Emerson knew that obviously wasn't all he did at night, she accepted that he was trying not to bother her again; which was really thoughtful when she considered it. For some reason, the fact that his cat was so much older than her unsettled the angel, though she didn't know why. "And during the day? Do you have a job or something?" For all Emerson knew, he could sleep all day if he was usually up all night.

"Oh yeah?" Emerson stayed floating, waving her arms to wade. "So you do it for fun, then, right? What kinds of places do you own?" She turned to face him, giving one last glance at the rising moon. She smoothed her hair back again, annoyed that it kept plastering to her hair. Recently she'd been considering chopping it all off, but it hadn't been short since she first came to the States.

"You're a pretty powerful man- er, demon," Emerson replied with an arched eyebrow, pushing herself to stand in the water and face Bones. "Do you like to do anything?" She laughed. "I mean, other than seduce young women to kill? Like a hobby or something?"

Emerson nodded in appreciation. "I used to go to car shows..." She trailed off, not mentioning that it had usually been with Kylist. "I haven't been in a while, though." That was how she had gotten connected with the family she had bought her VW Thing from, since they hadn't been made since the seventies.

Emerson rolled her eyes. "Of course," she replied. She waded in silence for a moment, pursing her lips as she stared at him. "Bones? The other night, with the drinking game? What upset you so much?" It kind of seemed an unsafe question, but she was already getting tired of the small chat (which was something that easily bored her).

Emerson scoffed, cursing herself for even bringing it up. "I didn't mean we have to," she called, swimming after him. She pulled herself onto the dock and waited a minute, wringing out her hair before tugging her dress on and grabbing her flats. "I'm sorry," she huffed, pinching her lips together. "I do this thing... Where I talk exactly when I shouldn't, and don't talk when I should." She paused before walking back to the beach, wondering if she'd just ruined something again.

"Yeah, I get it." Emerson turned her head to look at him, pulling her brown leather jacket on. "I'm sure I would be the same way, too. If I actually remembered enough of it." She shrugged. "What I do remember I don't want to discuss." She gave him a tired, wary smile. "I've a bottle of rum that needs drinking..." She trailed off, gesturing in the general direction of her home. "Want to come over?"

Emerson laughed, shaking her head. "I've actually never had it before, so. She stepped out onto the sidewalk, not bothering to pause and slip her shoes back on. She would just have to watch out for glass or anything else in the way. "I kind of bought it without thinking it through, but now I'm glad I did."

Emerson chuckled. "Sounds fine to me."
When they finally reached her apartment/store, she pulled out her keys and unlocked the place, holding the door open for Bones before leading him behind the desk-counter and motioning up the ladder. The apartment section was neat and had a cabin feel to it, with one room that was the living, dining and kitchen and another that was the bedroom which separated off into the bathroom. She didn't bother with a separate laundry room as there was one in the basement.
"Sit down," Emerson told him, passing the couch and quickly disappearing into the bedroom, reappearing with two towels. She handed one to Bones before grabbing the rum from the liquor cabinet. "I have a drier if you want me to toss in your clothes."

Emerson nodded, settling the towels across a couple of chairs next to a table that served as her 'dining room'. She took the bottle of rum and sat down next to him, pulling her legs up so she sat criss-crossed facing him. As she'd never drank rum before, she wasn't sure if it was supposed to be from glasses, so she asked, "Do you want a glass?" with an uncertain quirked eyebrow.

"Oh-kay," Emerson said with a blush as she stood back up and grabbed a couple of glasses. Returning to the couch, she handed one to Bones after pouring some of the rum in both of the glasses and sitting down. "So..." she trailed off (something she seemed to be really good at). "Cheers?" It was the first thing to came to mind. One would think, after so many hundred years of being around, one would have some sort of filter. Or at least a stronger vocabulary to escape her mouth.

"Oh, no. I used to buy it all the time. I'm just not the one who would drink it." Emerson swallowed her drink and tipped her head to the side, realizing she hadn't answered his earlier question. "I'm not exactly sure if I'm technically allowed to drink." She furrowed her brow. "Probably not, other than the occasional wine."

Emerson smirked and refilled their glasses. "I knew what you meant. But honestly, I'm not even sure if they even pay me any mind anymore. It's not like I do a whole lot for the army, and I stopped following a lot of the rules a long time ago. There's too much else going on for them to pay attention to a medic anymore," she took her drink, not needing to actually mention the war. It was a subject that naturally hung in the air when angels were concerned. "It'd probably take a lot worse for me to get back in their 'disobedient servant' book again." She frowned. "I'm not sure what exactly that is, though."

"Wouldn't that be a sort of anarchy?" Emerson questioned. "I couldn't handle that. Sometimes I wish I were a human, disgustingly enough," she told him honestly. "I think they started leaving me alone when I started working for Kylist, but I was too long gone to care."

"Who said you wouldn't be able to go in adventures as a human?" Emerson questioned with a raised eyebrow as she refilled their glasses again. She shot hers back after swirling the liquor around the bottom of the glass. "I mean, I don't actually want to be a human. I just wish I had some sort of innocence from everything."

"Aww, but it thought you were cute. For a demon, anyway. It probably would have preferred an angel," Emerson teased, refilling his glass and hers again. "But if I were human, I would be able to do a lot more than I can now. Not in terms of power, but an actual life." She sighed, leaning back slightly. "I don't know. Maybe then I would be wanting more of a life like this."

"I asked you out because I was afraid no one ever would," Emerson joked, tipping the bottle to his glass again. "Now I see why I had the foresight, of course. You're no fun." She smirked, tossing back her own drink and setting the glass on her leg for a moment.

"Wow, you know how to dance?" Emerson stood up, pulling her hair back and setting her glass on the coffee table before walking to Bones with a grin. "You sure are full of surprises. Next thing I know you'll be telling me you're actually an angel who's been sent to spy on me." She paused to listen to the beat and nodded her head. "Okay. Teach me your groovy ways, oh Bones."

"Basically the same thing as an angel." Emerson laughed and accepted his hand, swaying her hips in time with the music and Bones' dancing. After a moment, she just closed her eyes and continued to dance, hoping she didn't look like a bit of an idiot.
