Questions and Suggestions

Essentially, they're meant to work like the different sections of a bookstore - grouped into similar categories, but each individual work stands alone.

Aha! Thanks for the clarification, guys!

I'm liking this...except that we might have a bajillion topics and only a few comments in each. Does that make sense?
Also, I have a suggestion. A folder that almost works like the want ads in a newspaper -- people inform the group of what kinds of pieces they're interested in critiquing. Then the group members come to them and say, "I want you to look at this." Because people like me really enjoy critiquing, but I often have a hard time connecting with those who want the help.
I'm going to assume that anyone who posts a folder in the new topics is going to want critiquing help... and with the different genre folders you can find stories in genres that you enjoy and you can help people with them. I personally think that the system they've designed could work well and it's not complicated or confusing.

1. Does romance fall under realistic fiction if it takes place in the real world or science fiction if it takes place in like Star Trek or something and so forth? Does the same apply to crime fiction?

Emily: Yes, if you have a romance story you can just put it in the genre that best fits the world it exists in. We had actually considered a romance section before but decided most stories could be put into one of the other categories easily. If there's high demand for it we may add one later.
As for crime fiction, what do you guys think about expanding Mystery to be Mystery and Crime?

Also if anyone wants old writing contests they're buried in the archive. Just search like, "contest" on the topic search tool.
Idk, I was worried they were deleted but they're not alright.

Okay, thank you!
And for the crime thing, yeah, you might want too.

Ahhh, thank you! I was worried they were deleted to and I tried looking for them but I wasn't finding them.
Can we start posting topics for our stories in the folders right now or should we wait until... whenever?

So, if I have a short story, do I make a short stories topic or a different topic for different stories?

((Not trying to compliment it as I've never seen it, but I'm still confused.))
Yeah it's not a bad movie. Also don't compliment We Are Young because words can't describe how much he hates that song.
What are you people talking about? It's an INCREDIBLY bad movie. The absolute worst I've ever seen! I swear, there has to be some horrible mass hypnosis going on to convince people that there is anything even remotely good about that movie. It's just a complete piece of offensively awful garbage. Bleeech.
We Are Young...not quite that bad. But close.

It's not the best movie ever, but ... I find it entertaining. I like the music, the choreography, the story, etc. I don't like Renée Zellweger but otherwise I don't have many problems with it. So ... to each their own.

Ugh I can't stand Fun. in genral.
Haha, I love Fun. I think I'm going to their concert in the summertime!
Although I can agree that We Are Young is very overplayed and a waste of potential.

I agree. I like them but that song in particular is not that great and way overplayed ...

I have mixed feelings about the song. I like the notion of setting the world on fire, but other than that it is overplayed and I think some indie bands need to take over radio stations.
fun. is an indie band! I like it better when my indie bands stay off the radio so I can keep them to myself. Because as much as I try not to be, I'm one of those annoying people who is all like, "I knew about them before they were popular blah blah blah they're too popular now." I try not to be like that because it's a stupid attitude, but it kind of happens even when I try to end it.
But yeah, I don't hate the song We Are Young, but it's definitely not as good as their other music. I love the song Some Nights (even though it was overplayed on the radio) and the album Aim and Ignite has great music.

Everything else by fun. is totally dealable. Just not We Are Young, which is one of two songs to ever literally cause pain, like a searing headache, after hearing it the first time (the other being that one Black Eyed Peas song that's all DIRTY BIT DOO WOOOP WOOOP DOO WAH DOO WOO)
