We used to have a random chat topic called Undigested Lumps but I think it has been deleted or archived. But we also have this random chat topic here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Well ... within reason, though. There are a ton of people in this group and personally I'd prefer that there weren't a billion off-topic discussions ... but I can't speak for all the mods, of course. :P

Yeah, I would say just put it in whatever genre it falls under regardless of whether it's fanfiction or not.

I have a question...
If I need help describing something in my writing,
Where would I ask for help?
Is there already a thread for this?
I'm just wondering because I have lots of problems describing stuff.

I don't think we have one, but since it's a subgenre of fantasy I would just put it in the Fantasy folder.

Okay! Thanks. :)

I think we've answered that question a few times--I believe we agreed fanfiction is okay as long as you make it clear that it is not entirely original.

Hmmm sure. I feel like we might need a couple more genre folders. Are there any others that people want?

Hmm, I'm not sure there'd be such a high demand for Westerns, haha. I'm also not sure about action/adventure since I feel like that could fall under thriller or sci-fi/fantasy, but I'll try to add a couple of those suggestions. Thanks!

I'm not sure if we have these...
-dystopia
-animal-centered fiction (think Erin Hunter-ish stuff)
-religious fiction
-disease fiction (although I guess that would just be realistic?)

I can add Dystopia since I imagine a lot of people would make use of that ... I feel like the other ones might be a bit too specific and/or might not be as popular. But thanks. :)
Edit: Never mind, we already have a Dystopia folder.

There's a topic for that here, which apparently no one has used for about a year, but I just added a comment to it to make it a bit easier to find. ;)

Yup, it's here. Looks like it kinda got buried under all the other discussions and hasn't been used in a long time. But feel free to bring it back from the dead!
I know I promised a while ago to organize things a bit more around here so things are easier to find. I will try to do that soon. :)

Thanks for the suggestion! However, I don't know if there are enough people in this group who write screenplays for us to really need a folder just for screenwriting. For now, I would suggest putting screenplays under whatever genre they fall into (i.e. realistic/contemporary, sci-fi, mystery, etc.). But maybe we should have some kind of "other" folder if people feel one of their pieces doesn't fit into any of the genre folders.

Hey everyone! I've been really wanting to give some writing feedback lately but I don't want to go give a bunch of feedback on works that people don't really need feedback on , haha. So I was wondering if anyone needs anything read and critiqued! Not sure if this is the right folder but it seems like the beta workshopping system died a bit so I'm just gonna ask here.

Hi Alicia! Yeah, unfortunately the workshopping thread was just not getting any submissions, so I decided to let it die. :P I think we used to have a general "story feedback" thread but it may have been closed. Maybe I'll start up another one.
Edit: Here it is!

Ha, good question! Well, since you're writing historical fiction, it might help to start with the research. Even just a little Google searching can be useful (as long as the sources you're using look legitimate). And/or get a few books about the time period! Take lots of notes, and write down any story ideas you might have. I'm working on a couple of historical fiction projects, and it's really helped me to take notes of things I've researched, and also to jot down random ideas even if I'm not sure I'll use them.
Personally I like to have some semblance of an outline before I start writing, but I know it's different for every writer. It might also help to take some notes about your characters before you start writing. At some point, though, I think you really just have to throw yourself into it. If you don't know how to start it, you can always jump to a random part in the story that you've already planned/thought about.

True. I started with an outline, and I'm just going to see what happens from there. Thanks!
