so i have this guilty pleasure, i kinda enjoy young adaut books though im 31. problem is they are usually very flat and predictable, sometimes flat-out moronic. i read the twilight series (loved the first one), fifty shades of gray (only read the first one) and slammed (both books) and felt like i havnt perfectly satesfied my itch. im reading easy now which is not bad, but very predictable.

so i understand i need to kick it up a notch but i cant quite zero in on the genre im looking for: romantic novels that are also intelligently written and involves characters over 25. or none trashy romantic novels for ladies over 20.

any recomendations?

I suggest you read Gabriel's Inferno and Gabriel's Rapture. A very well written and researched book. The guy protagonist (Gabriel) is 33 and the girl (Julia) is 23. You will love both of the characters and their whole love story.

I just finished Easy. And as a 33 year old who also enjoys YA books...I found this book excellent and written so well based on the sensitive topic. it is defintely in my favorites. have you read On Dublin Street?! I also just recently read this and is in my favorites!

This and some of the others you mentioned are considered "Contemporary Romance" or "New Adult"... YA is usually centered around High School age kids and a lot of melodrama [mild sex].

New Adult/Contemporary Romance - centers around College age adults and has more adult themes [rape, drugs, death, etc]. They also generally have steamier sex scenes.

New Adult:
On Dublin Street
Fifty Shades of Grey
Slammed

YA:
TWILIGHT.... ugh.

What about "Hopeless" by Colleen Hoover? This book has so many plot twists and turns. There is no way that you will walk away think "predictable". The main characters aren't adults, though. They are still in HS....but they at least seem to be far more mature than characters in some of the other HS and college romances that I've been reading.

I'm 44 and I hardly read any "adult" fiction at all. I don't like the turn the genre took in the wake of 50 and since I am, at heart, a romance reader, the YA novels tend to focus more on the romance of a couple falling in love.

I recommend the Lux series by Jennifer Armmentrout. It was way better then Twilight. I was not sure if I would like it and I loved loved it!!

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

The Edge of Never

Sempre by J.M. Darhower - Mafia/Crime/Romance
Crow's Row - Julie Hockley - Crime/Romance
Both good reads with with lots going on as well as romance.

Pushing the limits - Katie McGarry
What I didn't say - Keary Taylor
Enjoyed both of these.

Ten Tiny Breaths
Sempre

Hi, I've read my fair share of young adult books and I totally agree, each one of them is so identical even when they try hard to be exceptional (for example Easy). A year ago I got my hands on The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis and that one really is special. It is unlike any other ya I have read. You requested characters over 20, these are on the verge of seventeen/eighteen but it does't matter if the story is really good, does it? It is not very known maybe because it is originaly german or maybe because it is controversial. It is a very good book, with unique writing style and a couple of topics that will leave you thinking. Try it. Hope you'll like it:)

I find that most romances are pretty typical in what to expect - don't get me wrong, I love them, and they are a guilty pleasure - some of the authors I read when i first transitioned from what was YA to adult - Lisa Kleypas, Stephanie Laurens; Julia Quinn

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. If you want an adult romance, Jamie and Claire Fraser definitely will fit the bill.
