I think the answer to this question for me depends on the book(s). I have found that in some series novels, It was a certain Were creature, like a werewolf or some other Were that I liked the most.In other series it was always the vampires I liked best.
And in other series its the Fairies.
So I am mutable depending on the book and how well the author creates a connection/pathos for these supernatural/paranormal creatures.
I think overall, in general, I gravitate to vamps, because they seem to have all the advantages. They live forever (or very long depending on the series), they are near indestructible, strong, fast, wicked, usually seductive, sexy beasts, and yet sometimes they can have a certain panache/class/nobility about them. They are often more than monstrous, having a lot of human qualities that make them more endearing. And there is often something tragic about a vampire, which adds a little twist to the character.
And vampires, to me, in my own writing, and in books I enjoy, are separated from the folly/rat-race of mankind. They sort of rise above all the petty crap we are mired in. They are not motivated by our selfish and foolish desires.
Okay, I will step off my soapbox now.
:)
I love vampires first and foremost, with that said I had not read a lot of other paranormal creatures. But do agree with Travis, it does depend on the story and the way it is written. I do like to see something different and slightly out of the box, one of my series involves Tuatha De Danann (celtic warrior faeries) and I have really enjoyed researching them and creating interesting story lines around them. Greek mythology is also a passion of mine and all the beasties involved.

I do like to ..."I have a character I am developing now in my fourth novel, which is based on certain Asian/Persian mythologies, a fallen angel shapeshifter.
In researching this material, I found the myths surrounding these seductive creatures are phenomenal. Early Asian/Persian religions were like paranormal erotica. Makes excellent fodder for a twisted mind to weave a sexy, macabre tale.
This character will feature prominent in the rest of my series, and she is quite unique in the world of paranormal creatures.
:)
Yes, I definitely go through phases. I was really into vampires back when I was reading Anne Rice, but that faded. I have to admit that I got back into them with the Twilight books (yes, I will admit it; I liked them.) :) Now I'm more interested in fallen angels, nephilim, demons and anyone with an unexplained supernatural ability - especially if it develops while you're reading the book. That's always fun.
I love anything angel-related: fallen angels, guardian angels, Nephilim, Grigori, Shadowhunters, etc. Definitely my favorite paranormal creature and includes some of my favorite books and series--The Violet Eden Chapters, The Mortal Instruments, the Hush Hush series, Coffeehouse Angel, A Beautiful Dark series, etc.
The Lost Father Chronicles young-adult fantasy books series IMAGES at Goodreads - https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

No comment, no chitchat, got straight down to it in one line and a link.
Smooth, direct, and totally irrelevant to the discussion.
:)
Hi everyone, i am new to Goodreads, so finding my way!Particularly drawn to this group.
What about Satanic themes, Devil worshipping etc? Is that a topic popular with this group....to read i mean!
Shifters are my favorite too. But depending on how the author is portraying the creatures in his or her books, I would say that vampires, angels, zombies, fairies or even elves can be just as good.
For me its vampires, angels and fae. I would love to find a decent readable werewolf book but I haven't had that luck. All the ones I've read ended in the DNF pile.
One of my fave creatures, in terms of sheer inventiveness, are Laini Taylor's "chimera" (creatures that can assume many animal forms).I'm also rather fond of hellhounds. Perfect for fetching your newspaper when you don't want to pay the delivery boy. ;)

Without spoiling the book I'll just say that the story is about shifters. Yes, we have werewolf shifters but the MC isn't a wolf shifter. He's something else. It's not a love story though, it's more of a detective/thriller/fantasy kind.

No, I'm completely open to recommendations! Thanks, I will defnitely be checking that one out :)

Oh and sometimes the faerie kingdom fascinates me, but I guess that's the point (LOL!).
In some cases it depends on the mythology behind the creature. I do love shifters, wolves, bears, leopards, whatever. I think because of the intense emotions.Faeries are interesting, but I can never trust them. *laughs* I always expect them to be either touched by evil or completely evil. But darned if I don't love reading about them.
vampires and gargoyles! I love Bizz from the Rachel Morgan series and Madeline Black has one too! his name is Beezle. as I often complain, we have a lot of gargoyles in our house & not a single one talks to me! I guess they don't like the cats! :P
I love Angels (Hush Hush, Kissed by an Angel) and werewolves (Shiver), but I'm going off vampires now (although I love Twilight and the Vampire Diaries). I think faeries (in the traditional sense) are interesting too (Modern Tale of Faerie)
Angels and demons are cool, especially fallen angels and I'm kinda into the zombie thing since 2010 because of The Walking Dead. Shapeshifters are cool too.
Ghosts. I'm intrigued by books where the spirits of the dead interact with the living.I haven't read any books with the traditional faeries but the idea is intriguing. I'll have to start looking for them.
True faeries can be quite evil and mischievous, would really recommend the Holly Black Modern Tale of Faerie books. Walking Dead got me into Zombies too!
I used to read mythology a lot. The fiction potential from those gods... Any recommendations in that vein?
Vamps, like many on here, were my first paranormal favs. I've been writing a mythological series lately, so I've been reading a number of books with gods--they've definitely stolen my heart.
I'm into the ancient Sumerian deities. Lots of fun there. Sherrilyn Kenyon has been using some of them in her series.
I like it all, but I'd say it depends on the book: the right author can make you hate or love the most unexpected things. The only ones I hate are tropes and cliches: when something is reinvented in fresh and brilliant ways, that becomes a new favourite.
I'm into vampires, demons, ghosts, witches, necromancers, etc. Not into angels. Werewolves not my thing but I do read a few books with them in there. Fae are okay, they're in a lot of my books that have different creatures to make up a larger world.
Nothing beats vampire for me especially the classic ones (Go Lestat!). But I still think it's dependent on how the creature are portrayed by the author.
I love werewolves because they combine canine loyalty and pack mentality with sheer alpha appeal. I do enjoy the occasional werebear tale and have written shapeshifting sasquatch and even boars into my Desert Wolf books just for fun! And I love Shannon Meyer's not-quite-good, not-quite-bad vampires.
Gabby wrote: "Yep. I'm exactly like that!!! Right now i'm looking for zombies...next it will be werewolves, lol!"If you haven't read it already The Enemy is a zombie series that I really enjoyed. When you come to werewolves I really liked The Last Werewolf.
My favourite creatures are Zombies for the fright-factor (I find the mindlessness of them particularly unsettling), Werewolves because I'm a canine-lover and Angels because, well, they're usually like "phwoar"!
Anything out of an A. Lee Martinez novel! Creatures such as ogres, vampires, werewolves, gargoyles, spirits, etc. take on everyday life problems that everybody faces, but it's a lot funnier when it happens to them!
I like them all, honestly, as long as they are done well! Vamps will always be my fave, tho. ;)And I am loving demons lately, thanks to the Veil series
I also enjoyed this one, with an angel & a demon(its MM tho, so not for everyone.)
I also liked the werewolves in this one
and I like the fae in that same series a lot, too!
I'm partial to shifters. ☺I'd love to find a great angel series; have had a lot of people recommend Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series, and I keep meaning to give it a go.

I don't have many angel books behind me, but GH is one of my most favourite series! You could also try with Susan Ee's Penryn and the End of Days series, I love her take on angels as well!
