Sandra - I'll need your opinion on some of these covers. They have mostly the font in red so could they qualify?

I have others that could work but at least two of those I need to work for other challenges.

Nice abs on that cover Sandra! Added to my wishlist since I'm a sucker for those absulicious ones...

I love this series so much (and not just because it takes place in the city of my beloved Cubbies). I love how Chloe Neill is able to mix humor in with the more serious plotlines. I also enjoy how I feel emotionally connected to many of the characters, to the point where I either want to hug them or smack them based on how they're acting.
Merit has her hands full in this installment, having to deal with everything from (view spoiler) . My attention was caught from chapter one (actually, it was caught on the page before that, which included a quote from Ethan, and Merit's inspirational contribution was "I like bacon"). All I wanted to do was keep reading. I'm so happy the next book comes out later this year!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Great story! Cadogen house is trying to get its affairs in order as they make the final steps that will change the course of the house, (view spoiler) Vampire politics come into play and the collective group must race the clock to outwit the GP. Oh and of course Ethan's ex is back to help with the transition and to stir things up. What a piece of work... Witchy friend is still recovering and her and Merit are on the mend, yay! And of course there is a murder mystery to solve which is the only negative for me. (view spoiler) .["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review: If you have read any Agatha Christie, you know that at some point the famous "untraceable poison from the South American Indians" will pop up. This is something that a clueless character usually mentions in cases of unexplained deaths and which Poirot always derides. So when I realized that the death in this book involved an exotic poison and a blowpipe, I almost died laughing. Ms. Christie is so inventive that she's not afraid to create a plot out of an idea she's ridiculed non-stop in like 10 books.
Excellent book in the series...I'll probably take a break for a while (I've listened to several of these books almost back to back) and I want the re-read to last me at least another year!

Thought I had but guess not. I have finished reading

Well, I had high hopes for this one, but sadly I felt I was in an episode of Prisonbreak the whole book.
It was well written by a debut author, the cover is gorgeous, but it just didn't do anything for me.
A guy is framed, breaks out of prison when at the hospital, takes the wrong woman doctor hostage, ends up killing the other prisoner who was psycho. All the time being pursued by a shady government assassin who set him up in the first place.
Of course, the woman doctor, figures out he was framed from the autopsy report, yada, yada, yada.
This book was in no way, shape or form a pnr. Saying the hero can use fire to heal people, but he can't control it does not make it a pnr. It is definitely romantic suspense though, if you can ignore the cliches.

Review:
Rune and Shade meet again in a Ghoul's dungeon they've been trapped in. Its been a year since they last met when Rune left Shade after she finds Shade cheating on her just after a week of dating her. Rune blames Shade for having been turned into a warewolf after been attacked by a warg since she was attacked after she left his place. When Rune and Shade meet again in the dungeon they are forced into a bond together by Shade's brother.
I didn't know how I was going to feel about Rune and Shade's relationship due to the cheating element which I usually can't stand but Larissa Ione makes it work. I liked this book much better than the first as we get to see more of the Demonica world and I enjoyed the characters much better in this book.
As in Pleasure Unbound we get to see Gem and Kynan again and I'm enjoying seeing their relationship progress through the books. I might be in the minority but I'm fine with Gem and Kynan not having their own book. I'm having much more fun experiencing their relationship in small doses and seeing it change through each book.

Hubby is working on the computer so I'll be posting our reads in the other later - I'm on my iPad now and it's not easy to do updates. No worries... I won't be late!

My opinion of this new series JAK book hasn't changed, it is still well written, good characters, Victorian England at its paranormal romance best.
That said, JAK has repeated some plot points from previous books, the people eating plant maze, the Sensation Writer heroine, the murky crystals and the most obvious one, the psychical nature of our H/h. It so obviously draws on the Arcane books without ever mentioning them.
The paranormal, creepy gardens surrounding the almost abandoned house of the dead mad botanist, inherited by our Hero Lucas Sebastian, becomes its own character.
Our Paid Companion/Sensation Writer/Private Enquiry Agent heroine Evangeline Ames, who is renting the cottage on the edge of said creepy garden, flees towards it at 2am to avoid a knife wielding would-be murderer.
And the plot is set. JAK weaves effortlessly between several subplots, murders, attempted murders, missing servants, treasure hunters, with the menace of the garden increasing all the time.
Looking forward to the next Ladies of Lantern Street novel.

This book reminded me a lot of the first in the series in that it had a very slow start, but by the time I was at the halfway point, I was invested in the story. I'm finding myself kind of at a loss for what to write in my review, which I guess really is an indicator of how I feel about the book/series in general. I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other. I liked the book, but wasn't blown away by it. Same goes with the characters. I like them, but don't really feel a big connection to any particular character. I'll keep reading the series because I am curious to see what happens, but it will probably be awhile before I pick up book 3.

A different twist on the vampire is woven into this YA storyline. The main character is haunted by the loss of her twin brother when they were attacked by a vampire and risks a trip into the "red sector" to see if he is still alive three years later. Her world changed when vampires attacked and she is dealing with the guilt of leaving her brother and friend behind. Sloane now lives in a "white sector" with the rest of the humans, which is a protected zone of the city and is trained as a vampire hunter. After she risks everything by escaping thru the fence, she quickly learns that not everything is as the humans perceive vampires to be and has to deal with the truth about the vampire.
This was surprisingly not bad for a YA freebie and really kept my interest. It felt kind of "Divergent-ish" and the teen scene with leadership roles and responsibilities. There was some pretty good twists but also some predictable ones and a few stretches. I plan on continuing on with the series. What is with the need with YA stories always needed to stick kids instantly into school?

Thanks, Sandra! I seem to have the hardest time when it comes to books that I'm just feeling so-so on.
The Scarlet Dagger sounds interesting, Lis! I may have to give it a try sometime!

Review: I've read so much historical romance set in the Regency period that it's rare when I find a book set in a completely new environment. This was one of them. Set in the book collecting world, there were very few balls and soirees. Most of the gatherings centered around auctions or discussions about books. How refreshing!
Cain and Juliana were a wonderful couple. He was a such a great person disguised as a rake. He actually pays attention to others and doesn't wallow in his misery like we usually see with these types of characters. Oh and he was average height for a change! I really liked that. :)
Juliana was great too. She was the perfect combination of independent woman who still felt natural for the time. She was definitely angry that her gender didn't accord her the same respect as other booksellers but she wasn't "feisty" or mean about it. She tried to work on the things she could change and didn't feel like a modern woman in disguise.
The suspense plot was very well done and it fit perfectly with the plot. I realized early on the identity of Juliana's father but I missed the Romeo and Juliet clue!
I'm definitely reading the second in the series, sooner rather than later.
