Change your book D.G, nothing worse than forcing yourself to read a book you don't want to.

message 113: by D.G. (last edited Feb 04, 2013 02:41PM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I thought of it as the 69 card, LOL!

Yes, I'm changing my book. I'm just not into it and I've been switching to music (which as I do when I'm not enjoying an audio.) I'm starting two at the same time, both with blue covers:
Be Mine Tonight (Brotherhood of Blood, #1) by Kathryn Smith - audio
Scorched Skies (Fire Spirits, #2) by Samantha Young - ebook

I'll just use whichever I finish first. :)

message 114: by D.G. (last edited Feb 04, 2013 06:09PM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Another one bites the dust. Just dnfed Be Mine Tonight...the narrator was dreadful! One of the characters sounded like Elmer Fudd!

I think I'll just wait until tomorrow when Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole comes out in audio. I already pre-ordered it so I should get it bright and early.

I was thinking of saving it for a 'purple' week but there's no way I'll last that long, as no audiobooks seem to stick.

message 115: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Good ole Elmer. LOL.

There is a blue Dark desire by Kresley Cole you can use D.G. Alternate covers are allowed in this challenge.

message 116: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I always forget to check alternate covers...

I'm downloading the KC book now but last night I
started an Agatha Christie audiobook and I'll be listening to that one. So hopefully I can wait through the weekend and see if we get purple (or blue or green.)

Sandra | 25908 comments Night Season (World of the Lupi, #4) by Eileen Wilks
Week: 2
Space: 84
5/2/13 ★★★★

Fourth book in the World of the Lupi series and most of it happens in an offshoot of Faerie called the Edge. Sound familiar? Well this one was written first. LOL.

The first 3 books center around Rule, wolf heir of the Nicolai Pack and FBI Agent Lily Yu, but this one moves to FBI Agent Cynna Weaver, a Finder and Cullen Seaborne, a wolf sorcerer of the Nicolai Pack.

All 4 of them are recovering from the events of the previous book when a trio of beings, led by a Gnome appear in a shopping center, looking for Lily and Cynna.

They want Lily and Cynna to come back with them to the Edge to Find something that has been stolen. Lily cannot go due to the matebond with Rule, but no-one is telling the Gnome that.

Of course, Cullen and Cynna go. Cullen isn't letting Cynna out of his sight as Cynna is pregnant with his child, even if she is in major denial. I'm not spoiling the story here, it is discussed very early on in the book.

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't love it. I'll certainly be reading the short about Cynna & Cullen as well as the next book.

D.G. | 2752 comments WTG, Sandra!

Well, the Agatha Christe book I started has a VERY blue alternate cover Three Act Tragedy (Hercule Poirot #11) by Agatha Christie so I guess I'll just use whichever one I finish first.

message 119: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yay Sandra! I liked Cynna and Cullen's story too. He makes quirkie sexy...

Finished my blue book, going to try to get my thoughts together and review shortly.

Lis | 4037 comments Demon's Quest (High Demon #4) by Connie Suttle

Title/Author: Demon's Quest by Connie Suttle
Series: High Demon #4
Finished: 2/5/2013
Rating: ★★★★✩
Space: #84 Blue cover

Review: This series is tough to review without spoilers so I'm shooting for an overview. First this is more of a 3 star book but gets the extra star for being addictive. (Over the holidays I read thru 10 of the BLOOD DESTINY series and the first 3 in this HIGH DEMON spinoff series. It's like an outer space soap opera.)

I struggle with the main heroine Reah. She is kick ass then a door mat, saves a planet then turns insecure and takes off to hide. In this future universe there are vampires, were wolves, shifters, demons, warlocks and powerful giant blue guys known as Larentii She is still dealing with her abusive upbringing and family which makes her strong yet vulnerable and afraid to trust. She grows more into her powers and reunites with a few of her estranged mates. In this future universe females are rare and have multiple mates and Reah is collecting them faster than Anita Blake minus the orgies. As always the story pulls together and the ending is full of action and cliffhangers. The big bad is still the RaAk creatures that infect and eat humans. As silly as the storyline gets at times I still can't wait til the next release, so she can heal some more planets and cook everyone gourmet meals.

Alien Tango (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #2) by Gini Koch

Read: 2/6/13
Rating: 5 stars

Review:

This series just makes me smile. I think one of the things I love most about it is that, in my opinion, it's funny without trying to force the laughter. I also love all the characters. If there was ever a book that just involved Kitty and Reader, I would totally be ok with that!

As for this particular book, it was a great follow-up to book 1. The bad guys this time around are human rather than alien, and they are just despicable people. There are a bunch of mysteries going on that all manage to be brought together nicely without any confusion as to what's going on. My favorite moments typically involved a combination of Kitty and alligators, which will really only make sense to people who've read the book. I ended the book with a big smile on my face, and I've already checked to see if my library has book 3.

Steph Ann, yay! one of my fav series. It's one you love or hate, but I'm definitely in the love camp. Alliflash & Gigantagator were inspired.

Lis | 4037 comments Sandra wrote: "Lis, I noticed you steaming through those books, must be very addictive :)..."

If your not too picky about typos or WTH plot shifts and go with the flow, its not a bad series. The main negative is that the heroines of both series are two of the most powerful beings in this universe and they sometimes let the guys rule them because they both came from abusive childhoods. I'd just vaporize the jerks!

Review:

I didn't realise this series was a spin off from the Night Huntress series until I finished reading but I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not having read the Night Huntress.

I enjoyed the writing style of the author. The flow was easy, fun and fast paced right from the start. The book had a great cast of leading and secondary characters. I loved the feisty Leila which was good as the entire book is from her point of view and I loved Vlad but I would have enjoyed having a bit more insight into Vlad mind. I Felt that we didn't get to find out or connect with him enough which could be because it was written from Leila's point. There were also certain aspects of the chacraters lives described but were never explored in more detail such as Leila being a circus performer which I would have like to have read more of or more of Vlad's past. I just hope that we get a little more insight into Leila and Vlad background in the next book.

I Wasn't expecting the end. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger but the ending was definitely abrupt. I'm looking forward to reading the next book and hope this time it will be from Vlad's point of view.

Sandra | 25908 comments Nikita, we do know a bit about Vlad from Night Huntress series, but I entirely agree about wanting to know more about both of them.

Luckily the next book is out soonish, March 26th.

Spot + Color: #84 Blue
Rating: - ★★★½

Review: This is one of those books where you understand where the characters are coming from but you still find their behavior annoying. I think if I had seen Jai's POV more and knew exactly where he was coming from, I would have more patience with him. I'm usually harsher with female characters (I just can't help myself) but in this case I really felt for Ari and wanted to pummel Jai until he was blue in the face. I also understood her feelings and I was glad when she decided to be in charge of her destiny.

This author definitely knows how to write sexual tension. Even though this was YA and all, you could almost see sparks flying when Jai and Ari where in the same room.

I already bought the third book in the series and I won't wait too long before reading it. I really want to know how things will progress!

Sandra I didn't realise it was a spin off series until after I started reading. I'm going to try and read the Night Huntress series before the next Night Prince book comes out but I've seen in certain reviews that have said that they were disappointed with Vlad since he seemed a bit different in Once Burned from when he appeared in the Night Huntress series. I do hope we get to learn more about Vlad and Leslie in the next book.

I've requested Halfway to the Grave from my library. Hopefully I'll be able to start it soon.

message 134: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, Vlad is certainly darker in Once Burned, but that is to be expected. And lets face it, he is an old Vamp.

In Night Huntress he is a secondary character with the focus on Cat & Bones. And you'll love them Nikita.

D.G. | 2752 comments Here in NYC we are the getting the beginning of Snowcalipse. We are supposedly getting a foot or more of snow!

We didn't lost our power/internet with Nancy so I don't expect to be incommunicado for tomorrow's posting.

message 144: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Stay warm and hopefully you are stocked up on food. I love snow weekends when you don't have to leave the house and can just read... I think the storm is going to miss us in Western Pennsylvania, I think the ground hog missed the mark again this year. It was suppose to be an early spring.

Hope you survive the snow D.G. If we don't hear from you tomorrow, someone else will get the draw but we won't rush, so don't worry.

Lis, I'd say red, and the other edition cover is blue :)

I've worked out a book to read for each colour, some are challenges for this month, others the next book in a series I'm reading.

So BRING IT Mr Randomizer!!!!

message 147: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Thx Sandra! It's always a dilemma with new releases vs team challenges. To read, or not to read? How many weeks can I wait for the book to fit before just reading it...

message 148: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, for me it depends on how many books I have left for challenges for the month, whether I have another book of that colour, and if all else fails, whether I'd want to read it twice in a week. Which I have been known to do. LOL.

message 149: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I'm pretty much at at whim of challenges and books I have to review for the blog. That's why I like challenges broad enough (like this) where I can read all sorts of different stuff and don't have to read one book in particular. ;)
