I'd like to nominate . Main character is the Chief of Police rather than a detective but is the main investigator ... and I love tough, take-no-prisoners females.

I'll toss in Snake Skin by C.J. Lyons. Snake Skin is about Lucy Giuardino, a tough FBI Agent running investigations in the Pittsburg PA office. She's chasing a serial killer, she's in charge and she's also a soccer Mom... well a soccer mom who's hot and carries a gun.

I have the first book in this series "Orchid Beach", I believe it's out of print right now. I find it odd that this is the case.
