I just finished reading those and I agree. Not quite as great, but a good series to read!

YAAASSSS! People who have not read this series are missing out on a whole lot of happiness. I pity them. I just reread that series for the third time a couple days ago! Another good series is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

message 158: by endless.tbr (new)

endless.tbr (endless_tbr) | 15 comments Also I HIGHLY recommend The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and the prequel series The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.

Dr. Shaz | 1 comments Ok... two series that I haven's seen suggested that I would definitely recommend are
1) The Warrior Chronicles - K. F Breene - Shanti is a pretty kick ass heroine, has romance, but that's definitely not the focus of the story, and it has lots of great supporting characters, great fight scenes, and a great storyline

2) Tairen Soul Series - C.L Wilson - First off, ignore the cheesy cover, I skipped over reading this one many times because the cover turned me off, but the story is pretty epic. It can get a bit over "romancy" at times, but if you are not opposed to the romance, it is a great series and a fun story with lots of twists and turns

I just finished the demon king series based on many people's recommendations here, and while I really enjoyed it, I found the first 2 books were really slow at times and the story pacing felt a bit off, book 3 was better, but missing a big climax, but it was all worth it for the last book... wow, loved it!

Yes! Falling Kingdoms is one of my favourite series ever.

message 161: by K (new)

K | 2 comments I don't know if these have been listed, but these books were really good, and close to ToG/ACOTAR!
Six of Crows
The Orphan Queen
Truthwitch
Red Queen
Cinder
Snow Like Ashes
Nevernight
The Heist Society/All Fall Down (kind of...)
Wolf by Wolf- I'm not sure why, but it reminded me of Throne of Glass

message 162: by Zeliha (new)

Zeliha (zeliha345) An ember in the ashes and sequel a torch in the night are amazing and beautiful books that left me mesmerised and in awe. You guys should definitely check it out doubt you would regret it.

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

gab ⋆ ☾ ☁ ⋆ (gabvenditti) | 3 comments I’m in the middle of An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson, which comes out in September, and its SO good! It reminds me SOOO much of ACOTAR! You guys will love it.

Nsrcda88 | 4 comments I needed this thank you! Although I don't any book can compare....hopefully close enough

message 166: by Christa (new)

Christa | 52 comments Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa is pretty good and Des gives off some major Rhysand vibes. It was published close enough that its not a rip off. But Des is the Bargainer and makes deals, king of night, etc.

Think Acomaf set in an urban fantasy world.

message 170: by Soula (new)

Soula | 38 comments I'm so glad I found this group because I have been dying for ToG and ACOTAR recommendations. Books recommened that I read and did not feel compared to Maas' writing were: Kiss Deception, Graceling, Shadow & Bone, Defy, Cinda Williams series, An Ember in the Ashes, Red Queen, Immortal Realms series.
Books/series I love / really enjoyed that I feel really do a great job the way Maas does are: A Promise of Fire series by Amanda Bouchet, Storm Born series by Richelle Mead (more sci-fi than fantasy), Mage Slave series by R.K. Thorne, Nemesis by Anna Banks, Witchlands series by Susan Dennard, The Winner's Curse series by Marie Rutkoski, Wraith Kings series by Grace Draven.
Thank you all very much for other books mentioned in this discussion post (I literally have 30 tabs open on each recommendation to see what I might read next!). I will be coming back here for more! I hope someone will enjoy one of the above mentioned books!

message 172: by Cixllera (new)

Cixllera | 5 comments Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard has a simliar story but not as good as Throne of Glass OFC
It main difference is just the way the main character acts. I liked it because the story is about having to keep some secrets like ToG.

message 173: by Jenna (new)

Jenna Obremski | 48 comments When I went to one of SJM's book signings she recommended the Darkfever series. I just finished it and loved it!:)

NO. If they say they're not affected by ACOTAR then they are liars.

message 175: by Aoife (new)

Aoife has anyone read the last Namsara. I would definitely recommend, I mean who doesn't love dragons.

message 176: by Kiah (new)

Kiah Radcliffe | 3 comments Life after Sarah’s books will forever be changed, whenever someone asks me for a book recommendation I always say Sarah’s books! But concerning life after, I recently just finished the Darker Shade of Magic series by V E Schwab and I fell in love. I could not put down the books. So I definitely recommend that series after TOG and ACOTAR.

message 182: by Nikita (last edited Jan 29, 2018 12:30PM) (new)

Nikita I love Lunar Chronicles. Such a great series. Also read Renegades also by Marissa Meyer. Amazing. Read Talon by Julie Kagawa or anything by Kagawa. Love her.

message 183: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Parker (brp_books) | 2 comments The Red Queen series is good. So is the Lunar Chronicles, Cruel Prince, and Shadow and Bone series.

message 184: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Lopez | 8 comments SJM has literally changed my life. I never thought I could love a book series this much, (and I read all the time, so that's saying something). Now every time some one asked for a book recommendation I say SJM. LOL 😊 I enjoyed the red queen series, lunar chronicles, six or Crows books, but recently I've been reading the call of the forgotten series by Julie Kagawa. Also you guys should read a dollhouse by Anya Allyn. The series has their creepy other worldly vibe.

message 185: by Bhavika (new)

Bhavika (ATroveofCrafts) (bhavikapatel) After discovering SJM's books, I have found a world that is so intricately AMAZING that every time someone says oh what should I read next? - I beg them to read SJM's books...
But I also LOVED Red Queen, the Snow Like Ashes, Young Elites, An Ember in the Ashes (I'm reading it right now and it's amazing!!).

Danielle (dancenanny) | 24 comments Lainy Taylor guys. her daughter of smoke and bone series is enticing. I haven't read her newest book strange the dreamer yet. its next on my reading TBR. but I've heard it was fantastic

message 187: by Connie (new)

Connie | 5 comments Besides “Throne of Glass” my other absolute favorite series is “The Discovery of Witches” trilogy but Deborah Harkness. A must read!

I had a lot of trouble getting into this series because the writing was so quirky. Also, I really prefer a historical setting to a contemporary setting so that kind of leaves Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone series out.

Doreen (door_een) | 28 comments Yvonne wrote: "Poison Study by Maria V Snyder

UM HELL YES! I've read the Study series by Maria V Snyder and man it is awesome. I read it before TOG series but frfr I have to say I like TOG world much better but both are equally good:) I'm very indecisive haha

However, IMO the study series ended very badly. I feel sad to say this but it's true:( but the characters are and will always be amazing af haha. I think you should give Poison study a try;)

ALSO: My friend told me about reading Falling Kingdoms? whats so bad about it?

message 190: by Beth (new)

Beth (beth_cannon) I haven't read this book, but I'm really keen to read it. It's called 'Six Of Crowns' Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo Six of Crows

message 191: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Rose (damewrites-a-lot) | 7 comments I recently finished Six of Crows, and I HIGHLY recommend it. If you love Aelin and Feyre, you'll love Inej. The rest of the cast is also awesome, and the whole thing has that moral ambiguity that's so common among Sarah J Maas's books.

message 192: by Noris (new)

Noris | 574 comments I'm really into An Ember In The Ashes Series. If you fell for Rhys, I'm sure you'll love Elias Veturius.
By the way if you know of someone who love the series and would like to start fangirling with me... let me know

Alison♊⚜️✨ Yeah Six of Crows is rlly good, comes highly recommended, should definitely read it :D

message 194: by Kimberlee (new)

Kimberlee Boulden | 9 comments There is many magnificent series out there, but Thone is Glass series’ writing style has set the bar too high for many more series....😰😭

message 195: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 21 comments I totally agree with it being hard to find «good enough» books after TOG and especially ACOTAR for me. I can’t see how anyone could make me love someone as much as I love those characters. As well as how empowering and action-filled those books are... like damn... So i have been in a massive reading slump for years now, only wanting to reread what I know I love ://

I agree about Six of Crows being a cool series, but I really preferred Shadow and Bone from The Grisha trilogy by the same author. A cool story with sort of similar elements as Maas has.

Also Under Different Stars was a really cool series, it’s not as fantasy and epic, but it’s sci fi/ romance and really exciting.

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn has the fantasy genre (but without the romance), it’s based on Mulan, so that’s pretty cool.

The Queen of All that Dies is also a really cool series, with a big check ✔️in the hot and steamy department. Also filled with action.

An Ember in the Ashes is absolutely awesome, I would really recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy/adventure/YA.

The Kiss of Deception is a romance/adventure with a really nice plot and cool characters. Assassins and princes is always a plus, no?

I agree with many others about Red Queen
series and Cinder that is a part of The Lunar Chronicles (awesome series that weaves (heh little ACOTAR reference there) many fairytales into a modern twist).

I have to say that none of these can compare to the works of my Goddess Maas, not in plot, character development nor writing, but they are all very entertaining!

sorry for long post, again... but I hope it may be of help to someone out there :)

Alison (sykotyme) | 55 comments Seeing this topic title immediately made me super sad.

message 197: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Rose (damewrites-a-lot) | 7 comments I'm about to start reading Children of Blood and Bone . I read a little bit in store before buying it, so I'll return to say if it's good for alleviating our ToG and ACOTAR withdrawals when I'm done.
I'd also recommend Three Dark Crowns . Lots of conspiracy and intrigue in an interesting setting. The start is a bit slower than other books we might be used to, though, so I'd only recommend it if you can deal with that.
Same goes for Outlander . If you love Rhys, you'll also fall in love with Jaime. Sarah J Maas is a confirmed Jaime fan ;)

If all else fails, just be like me and make a Kingdom of Ash placeholder out of a shoebox to put on your shelf.

message 198: by Connie (new)

message 200: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (charlotte_reads_) If you’re a fan of Sarah J. Mass’s writing, I’d recommend the Lunar Chronicles and the Selection series. They have totally different plots and characters, but they both are action packed and compelling!
