At least you were able to figure it out! Eddie would understand your explanation. Not I. :)
I lost my Internet connection today. Called Time Warner Cable for tech help. They sent a technician out to our house within a few hours and the problem was fixed. It was the connection on the pole outside. I was amazed at such quick service on a Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. I guess they know that an old lady can't function without her Internet access. LOL

Doesn't that kind of thing drive you crazy? I find that when things are built/installed, they never have an eye towards repair.
It's a good thing you thought of it, I know I wouldn't have. I'd have handed the job over to Anthony at that point, LOL

Nina, I don't think I realized it was a book. I see that..."I am on Netflix Save list for the movie. I am thrilled that The Number One Ladies Detective Agency is finally coming to me. I loved the books and the movie has rave reviews from our movie editor. nina

I tried reading _The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency_ but couldn't get into it. I don't remember why. I didn't even realize it was adapted into a movie.
Below is a link to the Netflix description of the film: ====>

It's just so odd & I got lucky, I think. Yes, it does drive me crazy. All houses have their quirks, but this one is pretty odd. Usually you put GFI receptacles in a normal electric line. In this case, they ran an extra 100' or more of wire to save putting one in. They are more expensive, but not THAT much more. Must be some odd code thing. Only the government could make someone come up with something so goofy.

Nina, went to the movies by myself to see Julia and Julie and found that many others did the same. Movie was wonderful. Entertaining, fast moving, humorous, makes you want to cook some new recipe. Meryl Streep was marvelous. An extremely talented woman.

Nina, we are not into racing. Too much work. :) To us, boating means relaxation.
Our son is the sailor/ragman; we are stinkpotters (power-boaters). :)
This weekend we cruised down to the camping islands and enjoyed the sun and the scenery while anchored in a cove. Every campsite was taken and there were lots of boats anchored offshore as well. Everyone was enjoying the holiday weekend and the terrific weather.

Linda, NOTHING could make me want to cook ANYTHING! LOL
I've always wished I could enjoy cooking because the cook gets all the credit, while the lowly cleaner-upper is taken for granted.
I don't know why I don't enjoy cooking. I know it can be a creative activity, but something in my past must have turned me against it. I guess I had more failures than successes when I first attempted to cook. Even when I tried to cook chocolate pudding the old-fashioned way, it seemed to take forever to thicken. I had no patience with the waiting. There was always something else I'd rather be doing. I always preferred to write a silly poem instead of cooking a decent meal. (Thank goodness Eddie likes to cook.)

When my husband helps me around the house, I always make it a point to tell him how SEXY he looks doing it, LOL I can't fool him, he knows exactly what I'm trying to do.

Jackie, your husband may see through what you tell him,
but I'm sure he still enjoys hearing it. :)

Nina, I too learned to cook after we were married and started raising a family. I did all the cooking and cleaning-up for 16 years (as a mother of 4 boys) until I went to work full-time and Eddie started pitching in. However, I never learned to love cooking.
One time, when first married, I enjoyed making a cherry pie. But I never made another cherry pie again. LOL Once I knew I could do it, that was enough for me. :)

Good luck with Eric's eye, Jackie. Gee, if it's not one thing it's another.
Reminds me of the book, _It's Always Something_ by Gilda Radner.
The title was a catchphrase of her TV character Roseanne Roseannadanna.

LOL - Nina, Heidi must have good logic. :)
Hope she has learned to enjoy reading since then.

Nina, that's amazing! I remember drinking from a bottle while in my mother's arms in our living room. I remember the chair we were in and the taste of the milk. I'm always amazed by that very early memory. It's probably my earliest one.

He starts school tomorrow, has to go back to the doctor for the eye, and has a post-op appointment for his knee. He's going to be very busy tomorrow!

Jackie, glad to hear that there was no serious problem with Eric's eye.
Poor kids have to go back to school tomorrow. Teachers too! How nice it is to be retired. :)
At Lake George, the off-seasons of fall and spring are the best times. Things quiet down and we can enjoy some pleasant weather. Hate to see the summer end, but there are advantages.

Cooking can be fun. Didn't always like the idea of HAVING to cook after a full day at the office and a long drive home. Thankfully, my husband and I took turns cooking.

Autumn is also my favorite time of year. Picking apples and potatoes. Make apple pie and apple crisp. Store bought crust of course! Did make a pie crust from scratch once. Taste the same as the premade, so why bother!!

I started on the fence line when the storm chased me in. It was done, the kids left (Erin back to school, James to his house) & got back out again for a few minutes when it started raining again! It chased me back out of the field until late morning.
I finally got out there, pulled the corner posts & redid the corner, put in the jump & wound up getting lunch at 2:30. Unfortunately, it was too messy to stop half way. I was afraid the horses would investigate & either get hurt or get out.
I put down 2 logs for the jump & Marg wanted it higher, so I cut a maple that was crowded &, of course, it wouldn't fall. Had to yank it down with the tractor. Finally got the jump done, although i cheated with the rider. I think it's high enough to keep the horses in. We lock them out of the north field in the Spring, but if anyone is that ambitious, they just get some extra grass. Anyway, it's done.

My MIL's pie crust was the best! So flaky and light. I've never seen store-bought crust like it. She showed me how she made it... the special way she made the dough and sliced it up into pea-like pieces with a knive and fork. I guess that's the key to the flakiness.
Her apple filling was great too... not too sweet, with the perfect amount of tartness. She loved to bake. I loved to eat. :)

Jim, you deserve a rest. :)

Slotting some time for reading this afternoon. 3/4's throught the book "Water for Elephants" - its interesting.

I've got two doctor appointments for Eric today, oh what fun! The good part is having time to read while sitting in the waiting room.
He started his first day of college today, I can hardly wait until he gets home and tells me about it. Hummm, maybe I won't get all that reading in...
I guess it depends on how exciting he thinks it was, LOL

Oh yes, I guess I'll do some more reading.
Oh I forgot, maybe we'll re-pot two indoor plants. We've been procrastinating the project all summer. After we re-pot them, I'll have four because we're cutting each one in half. Where am I going to put all these plants? LOL
Here's a pic of one of them, a Chinese Evergreen: ====>

PS-The other plant looks very much like this one: ====>

It's called a Dracaena (Marginata).

I recently brought mine indoors and my bedroom looks like a jungle! While my plants grow wonderfully in the warmer months when they can be outdoors, it's getting over the winter that proves to be difficult. I don't get much light in my house with the covered porches and lots of trees. Right now they are lush and beautiful, but by next Spring, it's another story completely. I'd love to partially open my roof and put in glass for the plants.
I used to complain about all those trees, but it makes my house wonderfully cool in hot weather. Rarely do we need to turn the AC on, unless it's very humid, and it's mostly for the dog.

You sound like my wife. She asks what I want & if I say, "Food.", she throws things at me or tells me to go fix it myself. If I say, "Eggplant Parmesan or Shrimp Curry." She still tells me to fix it myself. Mean lady, at times. All I ask is that it doesn't crawl off the plate too fast, but she has to make a big deal out of it.

Since I can't really talk comfortably - guess I'll go read now.
Joy - the plant pictures are all beautiful. One day soon I'll buy a nice tall plant for the tv room.

Jackie, the Chinese Evergreen and the Dracaena Marginata don't require a lot of light and they can endure a lot of neglect. That's why I like them.
Jim - I hate making decisions about what to eat. Even in a restaurant I can't make up my mind.
Linda - Don't bite your tongue. :)
Nina - I doubt if I'll ever read _Out of the Kitchen Adventures of a Food Writer_. GR says: "Jeannette Ferrary ... tells the story of her life as it relates to food... The book contains many recipes". I'll leave the recipes to the folks who love to cook. :) Perhaps they'll send me a casserole.:)

Why not, Nina?

Jim, you've got quite an estate there!
Those look like heavy logs. Hard work to put up.
Do the horses enjoy jumping?

The logs are no problem to put up at all. That's why god made a front end loader. (Kids work too, but they move out just when they get useful.) I welded chain hooks to it in 3 places just so I can grab heavy things, move them around & set them down exactly where I want them. Brains, not brawn at my age.
Horses do like jumping, but normally won't unless they have to or want to. That is why the board is on top of the fence. I'm not absolutely sure it's high enough, but it should discourage them from wandering into the north field when we close it off in the Spring & it makes a higher jump for Erin. Marg has it off now & the north field is open - there's a 16' gate at the other end of the fence line, about 150 yards east of the jump.

I'd love to see the photos, Jim.
You certainly are a handy man.
Eddie's handy too, but he's getting old. :)

Damn, I'm still waiting for mine to be useful and now you tell me he'll leave just when he does get useful! How friggin unfair! (LOL)

No bowls turned today, though. I wound up fiddling with the fish pond this morning. The weirdest thing happened. I guess the pump got stuck & flipped the outside receptacle. I just knew it wouldn't come on, so I pulled it all out go it running, put it back in & found it still didn't.
It's an outside receptacle, says it's GFI, but didn't have the buttons on it. So I looked inside at the breaker. Nope, regular breaker. The receptacle over the second bathroom sink didn't work either. It's about even with the outside one, so now I'm thinking it's a bad wire. I checked everything, but still couldn't find a reset button.
Finally, I got a weird idea. I checked the other bathroom, on the far end of the house. That GFI receptacle DOES have a button & it was flipped. I pushed it in & the other two started working. How weird is that? Instead of using a GFI receptacle in each place, they ran a wire the length of the house & back. (The circuit breaker box is on the wall with the first bathroom.) Strange & it cost me 1.5 hours to figure it out. Arrrgh!
