That sounds like an interesting book, Mary. If it's done right & this seems to be from the reviews. I get so tired of the sensational & incomplete way so many venues present such cases.
My shin-calf looks fine where Chip caught it with his hoof Saturday, but last night a couple of toes went numb for while. I ignored it, but after my shower Marg noticed that foot was bruised. What a bruise! It doesn't hurt, but it's swollen & wraps almost all the way around it. Seems about the same this morning. I wonder if it's anything to be concerned about. Any doctors in the house willing to do a remote diagnosis? Here's a few pics.

Nothing a doctor can do as a couple of nurses assured me. Just looks ugly. I should be wearing tall elastic socks to help the blood flow & taking Aleeve. Hadn't been doing either, doing so now.
Nina, I didn't really get it checked out. 2 of my FB friends are nurses & they said so based on the pictures. I'm getting less indestructible as the years pile up, unfortunately. I didn't have time yesterday. We finished up year end inventory at work, so I had to get the reconciliation database up & reports out. It's kind of a finicky, complicated process. I got about 10 minutes to eat lunch & had to run home to take Marg to the doctor. She's got some inner ear & other issues that are making her miserable & she couldn't drive. By the time we got back from that, I had to let the goats out & do some other chores, then it was time to feed the animals.
Poor Topaz hasn't gotten a decent winter coat yet since he's been down in Nashville. It's only 4 hours south, but the weather is quite a bit warmer & he's getting older. On top of that, the weather has been warm, but dropped this week. The past 2 mornings it has been in the mid 20's & yesterday we barely got above freezing all day, so he has to have a blanket on. Luckily, he's an old grump who isn't real active. Blankets are expensive & playful horses tend to tear them up. He won't allow Indy to fiddle with it either.
Topaz is not in Nashville. He's here. Erin has had him down there for the past year since she lives there, but she had to board him there. Now they are planning to move back to this area & he's one of the first steps. It helps their budget a lot to have us keep him.Marg seems to be doing better. Too many issues to list & they clash. IBS & antibiotics don't go well together, for instance.
Jim wrote: "Topaz is not in Nashville. He's here. Erin has had him down there for the past year since she lives there, but she had to board him there. Now they are planning to move back to this area & he's one..."I see. I hope Topaz' winter coat will grow in quickly.
We had very cold nights in the twenties but today is 49 and warmer nights and next week doesn't look nearly as cold at night so maybe our weather will be headed your way. And Topaz won't need his winter coat yet.
Yes, our weather is making it's way to you. Hope you and Marge are well enough to enjoy Christmas Day. We have a major house problem but hoping it won't spoil ours. Leak in one of the pipes in the basement ceiling and wall. We don't have a suspended ceiling in th ebasement so to find and fix the problem we may have to have a wall torn out and part of ceiling removed. Already damage in our basement.
Nina, I hope your household problem won't be too upsetting. Seems there's always something that has to be fixed.
It could be worse as I am not alone dealing with this problem. Hope you have a nice Christmas, Joy and other goodread friends and you have a family surrounding you with love and your pets too. Merry Christmas, nina
Chilly here but not White Christmas predicted. How about you all? Is it snowing on Christmas? Maybe?
It was close to 70 here today, a gorgeous day although the ground was super soggy from the rain yesterday & the storm that went through last night. We got winds up to 65 mph, so I hopped on Chip & took a ride around the place to see what the damage was. That's the first time since my spill 1.5 weeks ago. My leg was fine, even when he spooked as I pulled a plastic bag out of a tree. He didn't mind me taking it down or crumbling it up, but freaked out as I put it in my back pocket. I sometimes wonder what goes through that pea-brain of his, but I probably don't want to know. I might lose IQ points just thinking about it. The ground was slick, so we skated & danced down a couple of hills. I made sure to keep his head up as we went up the hills. He slipped a few times, but I kept his nose out of the mud & my seat. I really didn't feel up to another fall today.
Thankfully, there was no major damage nor anything that had to be taken care of right away. The swale on the lane overflowed a bit, but the trench in the gravel is pretty minor. It only does that when we get an inch in 30 minutes or less. They were calling for 2-3" so I guess we got it. The barn doors for the tractor were blown in, but nothing broken. I just needed to rest the bar where it had popped out of one hanger due to the strain. The bar is a 1x4 of White oak & I've had it break before.
A couple of trees broke up. One top came down & planted itself so it looks like we have another, smaller dead tree growing out of the ground. Another dead ash broke up above the pond & I'll have to get the chainsaw out to cut it up, but I just need to get it cleaned up before I need to harrow in the spring.
I took an hour delivering some bowls, Xmas cards, & chatting with a few neighbors. It was a good day. Relaxing.
Merry Xmas, all! Had a nice chat with Mom this morning. It's always best to catch her early. She's a busy bee.We opened our few presents. I got a set of Cavallo Simple Boots for Chip.

They're basically horse sneakers - temporary shoes that I can put on him when we go some place with a lot of gravel, rock, or roads. He has good feet, but he's a bit tenderfooted & these should give him better traction.
I also got the complete Kane set from Centipede Press.

I've been collecting KEW's books for 30 years & do have all of them, but the stories are scattered. Jared put out 2 other books a couple of years ago with all his other short stories & now these 5 books collect ALL the Kane novels & stories for the first time ever into one box set. Wheee! I know what I'm going to start reading, although the books are too nice to take to work in my lunch box.
Jared is the owner of Centipede Press who has published the Kane books. It's raining here again. I had to go up on the roof to fix a leak - the collar around the vent over Marg's bathroom split.
Our lilies, daffodils, & irises are coming up! It's been that warm!!!
Jim wrote: "Jared is the owner of Centipede Press who has published the Kane books."I see.
Jim, there seems to be no end of chores for you to do. You are to be commended.
Crazy flowers! LOL
Actually, it's been a nice lazy day. I don't even have anything interesting going on in the shop. As for chores, you know how many a regular house generates. A farm has quite a few more. Whenever I feel like I've got them done, one of the horses usually does something destructive just so I keep my hand in.;)
It's been relaxing here today too. But we're still waiting for rest of the family to arrive... with two dogs, one that yaps all the time and the other that gets into fights with our dog. So we're enjoying the peace and quiet while it lasts. :)
So Jim, you Christmas was busy and Merry it seems. And Joy what was your Christmas. Ours was quiet/Mass in the morning and a visit with wine and a neighbor who has been housebound with a bad cold and it finally not contagious. Visits with childen and grandchildren before and after Christmas which is fine with us. It's in the forties here. Reading a very good book, "Gardenias," by Faith Sullivan. A sequel to , "A Cape Ann."
Joy, Your email brought a smile. Hope the peace lasts long before it becomes not so peaceful but fun with family.
I got Marg a device so we could turn our old home VCR tapes into files. http://www.amazon.com/TOTMC%C2%AE-Vid...
The first one was of Gypsy & her puppies taken by James in 1997. The puppies were cute, but the comments were better.
"Shut up, Brandon!"
"Wait until Dad gets home."
It was a hoot.
Another tape was a tour of this place less than a year after we got it. It was great to see the changes & it's amazing to see how much the trees & gardens have grown. It's tough doing all the work sometimes, but seeing a before & after picture like this makes it a lot easier.
Nostalgia is always fun to see. And the changes are truly amazing. We did this with old movies of my six children that my dad had taken and put them all on DVD's for them. They really appreciated it.
My daughter from ID called and said would I like to talk to my famous daughter. It seems someone took a picture unbeknowlist to her and sent it to a contest for the best Christmas lighting house in the county and she won the honor. She was sitting in her living room drinking a glass of wine with her husband and said to him, "I wonder why there are all those cars on our street. Maybe there has been an accident close by." Of course, she found out later they were looking at her house. The crux of this story is that she lives in a resort area town on Couer d' Alene lake and there are numerous mansion type homes bordering the lake and lovely suburban homes and her is a modest cottage type two bedroom home built in 1940. So, proves size and money doesn't always get the prize. Just wanted to share some good Christmas news with you.
