Math is beautiful.

When I was in college, I had a math class and I invited my math group to my apartment to study and I'd get everyone high and make enchiladas. The reason I invited them over was because I was in love with Rob Schrecongost, a musician who was married to a Haitian stuck in Haiti. I did awesome in college math. I hate teaching it, though.

message 4: by Kasia (new)

Kasia You could even say that math itself is a language, it assigns symbols and expressions to physical things and abstract ideas. And if you can describe a complicated phenomenon in one short simple equation, it is beautiful indeed.

Reads with Scotch as in the universal language...

:)

message 6: by Kasia (new)

Kasia there's that too

message 7: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Math can get sloppy and messy as well, it all depends on the skills of the mathematician. Though I'd say overall it's so much more precise and compact.

Kasia True.

message 9: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen I met my ex-husband in a math class.

Math sucks!

message 10: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments yeah, math sucks.

Reads with Scotch Math gets really sloppy (by design) once you get into the real deep quantum mechanics equations, and that is cool.Mathematical proof that the universe operates on the chaos operating system, not windows vista.

message 12: by Harry (new)

Harry (harry_harry) Geometry kicks ass, Algebra...not so much

message 13: by smetchie (last edited Mar 09, 2009 10:45AM) (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Webster says Geometry is a branch of mathematics. Geometry=math.
This equation leads us to the solution:
Geometry sucks.

message 14: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Gretchen you're operating on a false assumption, hence your solution is not valid.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Numbers can't express love, compassion, or any other emotion good or bad.Unless the topic is my money, I tune out any conversations that include numbers. I'm immediately bored. I like that words are not concrete. They have many variables. I so hate math!

Reads with Scotch Ok, this thread has gone all hippie; I'm out.

message 17: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen I just spent 2 days on a jury duty, trying to assign a monetary value to someone's "pain and suffering" that's some math I would be happy to NEVER have to encounter again!

message 18: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments I HATE jury duty.

message 19: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments I guess it depends on the case. I had a lame one where some chick was in a fender bender and sued for her chiropractor bills.

message 20: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu This thread = :(

I love math.

message 21: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Oh, wow, and posts are gone from this thread... It was some girls that started this, right? She must have deleted herself and all her posts. Lame.

Kasia re: "Numbers can't express love, compassion, or any other emotion good or bad"

Well those things are overrated anyways!

And yes, math is quite logical, and when done correctly - simple and elegant. That's not a bad thing at all.

message 25: by Daniel (new)

Daniel And my favorite!

message 26: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Kasia wrote: "when done correctly simple and elegant."

This is what I like - turning a big mess into something palatable!

message 27: by Kasia (new)

Kasia in message 31 your picture is not showing....

message 28: by Daniel (new)

message 29: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Seth is simplifying math. Math literally helps humans understand everything. From how to get off the earth to how old dinosaur bones are.

Reads with Scotch [image error]

That is all.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I love that one.

message 32: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Um, I didn't get it. The first figure looked like the Chinese "dollar" (yuen) sign.

Of course, I'm so horribly stupid. Was it pi? Even so, no comprende.

message 33: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Daniel wrote: ""If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.""

I did love THIS!

message 34: by Donitello (last edited May 21, 2009 02:47PM) (new)

Donitello Ooh. Golly.

I've always regretted not studying more math, dammit. I was always into the arts, yet my most fun class by FAR was grade 10 math. Our teacher just enjoyed the subject so much he had us rolling in the aisles trying to figure equations out. He was an inspired man.

message 35: by Reads with Scotch (last edited May 21, 2009 06:41PM) (new)

Reads with Scotch ok I had to post over my last post, fr me and donna's friendship.

I'
m not sure you would have appreciated it... I have been drinking and thought it was funny, but if one were not drunk I think they mght be offended.

Reads with Scotch No fuxcking way, I totally re-posted that immediatly after hittng the post button...

Reads with Scotch faster then thought that, Donna, Is.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

What did it say, Bunny?

Reads with Scotch I must admit I am very drunk and do not remember what I wrote... so it mustgy not have been very interesting.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Nick gets points for drunk posting! Every Hater's duty.

message 41: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments I think his spelling actually improves when he's drunk posting.

message 42: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Drunken posting gets two thumbs up from this old man! If he would have deleted his account and then begged to come back he would have completed the full circle of drunken drama!

(yes I've done something similar)
