It's a little hard to explain, but it's set in a fictional medieval location with kings, etc. There are regular people and people that are called gracelings. The gracelings have two different colored eyes and are graced with a special ability. The ability can be anything from cooking, to mind reading, to fighting or climbing. The story follows one specific graceling Lady named Katsa.
I can't tell you much more about it without giving something away, but you can click the link and read the synopsis. Although I felt that the book was a lot better than I expected from the synopsis. You should check it out. I thought it was really good and would definitely recommend it.

Ladyhawk, I can say I loved both for very different reason. I was sure I would enjoy The Golem and the Jinni so it was self fulfilling prophecy. A Tale for the Time Being I deiced to read as it had received a good reviews from a writer I follow Junot Díaz and first chapter in I was was thinking "oh, I don't know about this." But I was rewarded with a wonderful story that I am still thinking about. =)
Been lucky so far this year of the 26 books I have read, enjoyed most of them. So can add two more to the like category
and the classic
Next up
and
with
rounding it out.
I finished the "Journey to Wudang" trilogy, & just started reading
by Mark Walden. So far it is really interesting. If you are interested in YA or have someone on your list who is that age or does, have then check it out. It's cute.
Last night I listened to Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen which I throughly enjoyed, made me laugh at all sorts of bits in the audio. I've since gone on to read The Mirror of the Soul - J. Lloyd Morgan which is different to what I normally read. Quite good so far.
I am halfway through The Diviners by Libba Bray. I love it!! I am listening to the unabridged version of World War Z by Max Brooks. I love it more than the book format! I recently finished Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I loved it!! It is a must read for EVERYONE.
@ Fiona (Titch): Quick ?, do you find it easy to transition from an audiobook to reading? I don't know if it is just me, but when I am in the car, sometimes I do an audiobook, but then later at night I read a book and I find myself having to take a breath. NM I guess it doesn't make sense, but I was just wondering if someone else had to take a moment to readjust too.
I just finished The Great Gatsby and I'm not sure what to read now. :/
I've just finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
I really enjoyed it, the narrator being Death was one of the most interesting narrations I have ever read.
I am now starting The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, I'm reading it for school as we're doing dystopia as our next module in English Lit. It is definitely one of the better books on the list and I am genuinely looking forward to it even though reading it is technically doing work (:

@ Molly I always think of Markus Zusak Death as a Male version of Neil Gaiman Death from the Sandman series.
Hello! I am new to the group but just from looking at the types of books that have been read in this group, I'd like to make a recommendation!
I just started reading this book, and LOVE it!
Just finished Inferno, If you like a lot of in depth about art history, then go for it. Don't know if I would recommend this book. Just started The Ruins of Gorlan and hoping the series is as good as the reviews.
I just finished The Storyteller and it was great! I would definitely recommend it. I'm currently reading Gone Girl and will be starting Life After Life on audio tomorrow.

I am currently reading First Love.....Just Like the Last One by Indian author Sachin Garg. I recently completed Immortals of Meluha and am waiting for the second book - The Secret of the Nagas.
I've listened to New Moon - Stephenie Meyer today which isn't anything like the film lol. But still love the story.
I want to read the Great Gatsby again before I see the movie.
I had never read anything from this author. But the title, EXcapades, caught my eye. Don't let the sexy cover fool you. There was a lot of depth to this love story. I was captivated.
Just finished Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, now starting his next one, A Thousand Splendid Suns. I loved Kite Runner!

Two books that I still want to read!!
Getting ready to start Rise of Empire by Michael Sullivan. Was tempted to try Inferno by Dan Brown but I didn't like his last book.
To cupcake: I know some perfect books for you! You could read "bad girls don't die" by Katie Alender or "die for me" by Amy Plum.
You guys HAVE to read ShelterThe description doesn't make it sound good, but it's sooo much more going on in the story. It's one of my favorite books! :)
Special Nobody
Hey Guys,
I just wanted to point you towards Special Nobody.
It's a coming of age story about the struggles of navigating life as you turn from teen to adult. It's about friendship and finding your way in life when there's nobody to guide you :)
Today is my Birthday I am looking for books to get on my Kindle. http://www.goodreads.com/recommendati...
The Power, The Miracle and The Dream by Don De Lene – Book ReviewHannah Lane is seven years old and lives in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She has terrible asthma and has learned to think of herself as not much good at most of what she sets out to do in life. She does, however, have an active imagination and has been interested in fairies for quite some time. She has a collection of fairy dolls which she plays with often. Imagine her surprise, though, when one day she finds Brenda, a fairy, in her garden. Brenda is not so convinced that Hannah is without talent. She sets about guiding Hannah to a wiser and happier life. Hannah’s 11 year old brother Harvey thinks she is a little “crazy” (Book 1, Ch. 2) and that Brenda’s advice is a bit beyond belief. Is Hannah crazy and will she ever really improve her life?
Particularly as children, but also through most of our life, we all have secret wishes and hidden dreams about the person we would like to be. Remember that fantasy career you longed for but never went after? We convince ourselves that we are not good enough to achieve these goals, that we are unrealistically aiming too high, and perhaps that we do not really deserve such fulfilment. It is not unusual to reach 40 years and ask, “What happened?” and “Does what I have done really mean anything to me?” If you are in this situation Don De Lene’s book is specifically for you. The book is subtitled “a beginner’s guide to lasting happiness’ and is filled with interesting, surprising and useful advice on how to achieve exactly that. This book is part novel, part self-development manual and part spiritual philosophy. Those who are “open-minded” (Book 1, Ch. 6) and have “a little willingness to believe” (Book1, Ch. 4) will benefit the most. The book is aimed at children and youth, but adults can certainly enjoy it and benefit; indeed, perhaps more so.

Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife and it was even better than I expected. The concept of a man who travels throughout time without being able to control it was really fascinating. Clare and Henry were very believable and realistic characters and I liked them immediately. The ending was beautiful.About to start Fight Club and I'm reading And Then There Were None. I'm curious if Fight Club is as good as the movie adaptation.

Where to begin on my reading binge recently. I read Intuition by Kate Allenton & couldn't stop reading the rest in the series. (Sad I know). Then, I finally got down to reading Ender's Game (a RR), which actually WAS on my reading list this month. I finished it today & then devoured Princess Knight, Part One, which has been on my TBR mental list for a VERY long time. *sigh* Now I am stuck on what I should read next from this month's reading list.On a side note, next month I need a book that either begins with "U" or has an author who has a first or last name beginning with the same for a challenge. Does anyone have any ideas? I need it to spell out QUEEN.
I've been reading Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire series. It's a mystery series with a Wyoming sheriff. Think Tony Hillerman with more humor. It's not surprising from a mystery perspective, but it has great characters. They are something else. I'm on book #3 Kindness Goes Unpunished.
Robin - Have you read Unwind? I haven't read it, but have heard good things about the series. All the books start with U.
@ Kristie - I HNR it either, but it seems I added it to my TBR list a while ago. Thanx for pointing it out for me!
Two books I recently read and really enjoyed. Sarahs Key and Orphan Train. Two books that I continue to reflect back on.

Time KillerIt isn't free but it is damn close at only $1.99 kindle and nook
1 of 75, 5 * AMAZON REVIEWS":
Not your average murder mystery here. Time Killer puts you in the killer's shoes. You get to probe his mind as he does his nasty deeds. You also get to see what he sees. If you have a faint stomach you may want to skip this book. Todd M. Thiede paints a very vivid picture of what is happening at all times. I felt like I was in the room with everyone. The killer, the detectives, and even the victims came to life for me. I hope to see more from Mr. Thiede soon. http://www.amazon.com/Time-Killer-ebo...
