I just left Washington with The Orchardist (my review) - I really enjoyed the book. I'm also still reading One of Ours and hope to finish it tomorrow.

. I looked it up and have added it to my TBR list, & will likely use it for Washington state, too.
I finished One of Ours for Nebraska. I don't know why it's taking me forever to read Willa Cather. I love her writing (my review). Heading to California with the The Age of Miracles.
I finished
, set in Louisiana. I am still thinking about what I want to say in my review. I am going to Michigan to read
. Thanks to Michael for the suggestions for Michigan.
back in Micigan withDetroit: An American Autopsy by Charlie LeDuff
I knew Detroit was bad when I left in 1971, but I didn't realize it was this bad.
I am leaving sunny CA with Murder on the Down Low. My review is here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I have been in Detroit, Michigan reading
. Here is my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...Now I am moving on to Ohio, to read
. This is a new author for me.
just left: Detroit: An American Autopsy by Charlie LeDuff now in Vermont: The Long Road Home by by Mary Alice Monroe
I may have made a mistake here. Also reading Janet Dailey' Mistletoe and Molly, also set in Vermont, also a love story. Too similar to The Long Road Home. I find myself mixing up the characters a little bit.
Michael wrote: "I may have made a mistake here. Also reading Janet Dailey' Mistletoe and Molly, also set in Vermont, also a love story. Too similar to The Long Road Home. Laurel wrote: "Michael wrote: "I may have made a mistake here. Also reading Janet Dailey' Mistletoe and Molly, also set in Vermont, also a love story. Too similar to The Long Road Home. I like the Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber--light weight, predictable, but warm and cozy.My favorite is A Christmas Carol by Dickens.
I just left Malibu with What I Did for Love My review is here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I just finished The Age of Miracles. It is set in California and does capture life in southern Cal, but the book was very slow moving for a dystopian. My review here.
Leaving Vermont. Just finsihed The Long Road Home by Mary Alice Monroe. Don't know where I'm going from here.Back to NYC with The Christmas Kid by Pete Hamill
I left Chicago (and Italy and Wisconsin) with Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. Warning: this book will not endear Frank Lloyd Wright to you, and may have the opposite effect. (Here is my review.)
I just left Wisconsin with Carry the One. This book could also be used for Illinois since a good chunk of the storyline takes place in Chicago. (my review)
I just left Massachusetts with Pictures of You. Very engrossing and makes for a great summer read - I read it in two days because I couldn't put it down! Here's my review:http://coldread.wordpress.com/2013/05...
I downloaded the audio for the YA book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, read by Sherman Alexie. It is set in Washington, on the Spokane reservation. My review is here.
I just left Louisiana with Fantasy Lover. My review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Jenny wrote: "I just read another NYC book, The Secret of Lost Things. My review is here."Nice review, Jenny. I know just what you mean about rating books that are enjoyable, but not 5 star material. It just goes to show that we shouldn't overlook 3 star books. Sometimes we just want to have fun without the commitment (a pun on your speed dating idea)!

I am still in Georgia, reading
, but I made a detour to Washington, D.C., to read
. The Alex Cross book was a quick read, entertaining but left one key element up in the air, so will likely need to read
to wrap up that loose end. Having fun seeing what Scarlett is up to, after the the original GWTW ends.
I just left Maine with The Burgess Boys loved, loved, loved this book. My review is here. Heading to Missouri with .The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I can't believe I've never read the book.
Finished 97 Orchard : An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement, one of my picks for NYC. My review is here. Some of the book is uneven, and I think my favorite bits were when the author included actual historical recipes she had found.
I just read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. My review is here. I am planning on hanging out in the Midwest for the month of June, but I'm not sure what I feel like reading next.
My selection for Tennessee was Evidence of Things Unseen. I have three words - wow, wow and wow! Definitely a five star novel. Here's my review:http://coldread.wordpress.com/2013/06...
I just finished
, the 25th Spenser book. Really enjoyed it, couldn't count it for Mass., since I already have a book for there, but thought someone else might use it. Here is my review:http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I am still in Georgia reading

Finished Buffalo for the Broken Heart: Restoring Life to a Black Hills Ranch for South Dakota. If you need a South Dakota book, this is well worth it. My review is here. I am planning on reading The Golem and the Jinni for New York since it just became available from my library hold list, but will spend most of July in western U.S.
Jayme wrote: "I finished One of Ours for Nebraska. I don't know why it's taking me forever to read Willa Cather. I love her writing (my review). Heading to California with the The Age of Miracles."Nice review, Jayme! I'm going to read O Pioneers! for my Nebraska selection next week:)
My trip around the US has taken me to Pennsylvania with Benjamin Franklin: An American Life and also on a road trip from NY to North Dakota with Breakfast with Buddha. Loved the Roland Merullo book and would like to read more by this author! My reviews are here:http://coldread.wordpress.com/2013/06...

Just left Arizona with Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Found it read pretty slowly for such a short book.

Just finished my road trip with Travels with Charley: In Search of AmericaI pushed myself to finish it. I guess it just wasn't my style.
Finished two quick reads this week The Art of Disappearing for Nevada (my review) and When the Emperor Was Divine for Utah (my review) - loved this book. Heading to Oregon with The Postman and Oklahoma with The Grapes of Wrath. I'm trying to knock out as many books as I can over summer vacation and my goal is to have this challenge completed by October 31st.
Love long weekends of reading... finished The Postman for Oregon (my review) and Uncle Tom's Cabin for Kentucky (my review). Heading to Oklahoma with The Grapes of Wrath which has been on my TBR for years.
Just finished The Cove for North Carolina and I loved it. I look forward to reading more by Ron Rash.
Stacy wrote: "Just finished The Cove for North Carolina and I loved it. I look forward to reading more by Ron Rash."I've heard good things about The Cove - I'll have to put it on my list for next year's USA list!

I briefly revisited Mississippi to read The Ponder Heart by Eudora Welty, kind of a southern classic. My review is here. I am poking around on the internet for recipes to replicate some of the food mentioned - Never Fail Devil's Food, "the kind of fudge anybody can make," banana cake.....
Suzanne wrote: "I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath also! It's so good, I can't believe I put off reading it for so long! "
I read it in high school, my junior year, and still have a vivid memory of the ending. That's powerful writing (although at the time all I felt was disgust!!)
