Hello, I'm Catherine, I love getting lost in mysteries and thrillers.
When I'm not writing I'm trying to catch up with my towering To-Read stack.
Currently living under a blanket of snow and ice.
Hi, I'm Cindy.I joined because I'm a bibliophile and here to pimp some of my favorite authors and books.
Howdy all.......Man am I behind in reading about all the new members.
I'm just going to slip in a little kicker here.
I just learned this and I feel like such a dummy. I should have known. I love Greg Iles. I love Penn Cage's series!!!!, Love it.
Do you know that Greg came out with number 3.5...........The Death Factory???? It sets up his next novel, Natchez Burning.
I have had Natchez Burning on order for 2 years. Apparently Greg was in quite an accident and is just getting back to his wonderful writing.
Just popped The Death Factory onto my Kindle.
Hope this is not OLD information for you. I have just been in the dark!!!!
Hi all and welcome. I'm heading off to the DR tomorrow to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. Hoping to get lots of reading done his coming week. I will check in when I'm back!
Welcome to all the new members. I've been spending some time away this weekend, I see I missed a lot.
Hello everyone. I am fairly new to Goodreads, and I'm still figuring things out. I enjoy thrillers and action adventures - both fiction and non-. I am a computer guy living in Boise, Idaho. I recently finished writing my first book. It was a blast to write but I must say that I am excited to be done so I can get back to reading words that someone else wrote!Dustin
Hello! My name is Britni and I live right outside Dallas, Tx. I am a marathon runner and it is my passion! However, I do love to get in a few good reads between runs. :) I enjoy all types of books including silly YA books, but I have a special place in my heart for thrillers. I read Kiss the Girls by Patterson as a senior in high school and I was hooked.
I'd like some advice, and some help finding more books to read.I'm a huge fan of dark fantasy, and anything close to Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch will immediately go on my e-reader. Any advice? Here are a few books I have loved:
Codex Alera
Gentlemen Bastards
Belgariad
Conan the Barbarian
Black Company
Garrett P.I.
Night Angel
Thanks!
Lorrea(Threein3) wrote: "Welcome Britni and Andy!!"Thanks! I'm also an author, and my book is going to be coming out on the weekend. Is this a good place to post a link so people can read it?
My site also has the first few chapters that people can read. http://www.andypeloquin.com/books
Looking forward to hanging out with all of you great readers and writers!
Hi Britni and Andy,

Hi Brini, welcome. Have you considered an MP3 cliped to your running clothes with an audio book? combine your 2 passions. I listen to audio books on my MP3 all the time. Hi Andy welcome....to answer your question I have to note that this is dependent on my own taste. Personally I don't care for the Gentleman Bastards series, but others do. If you want something quick, interesting and violent go for the Conan stories. For a longer and much mo0re involved story with a detailed magic system I'd go for Codex Alera. The Black Company fits in between with a lot of action and a dark story it has periods of slow story telling between the plot points. Garrett is by the same author and not bad.
Then there's the Night Angel trilogy. I think it's excellent and very involving. I have it (read it) in a single volume omnibus edition and never lost interest. So, for a long involved but satisfying read I can recommend that.
My question was do you have any recommendations LIKE those books. They are all books that I really like, and I'd want something along those lines.
...Oops...Okay.....Have you read the Dresden series? It's probably the best UF series I've read. I'd also suggest The Deed of Paksenarrion, Blood Song, Promise of Blood as epic fantasy thrillers. If you liked Night Angel have you started his new series? The first is The Black Prism.
I read the Paksenarrion series, and briefly glanced at Butcher's Dresden files. The Black Prism just didn't do it for me. I'm looking for something a bit less-known. Perhaps a self-pubbed work, or a new author making a splash? Or a guy who hasn't been around for decades.

My ..."
I have also made a folder for authors to promote their books. So that we can have a place for them even after a group read.
Thanks for the new folder Andy. I added a post there, but really I am more excited about finding other people's books to read for a while.I feel like I have been kept in the dark for way too long. Your message earlier got me excited to catch up on some of Matthew Reilly's books too.
Anything strictly fantasy? I have a hard time doing the future Earth thing. Like in The Shadow of the Torturer.
Ever read The Riyria Chronicles series by Michael J. Sullivan?Older reads, the first Amber series by Roger Zelazny.
Waylander is an excellent book as are most things by Gemmell.
I think I have Riyiria in audiobook to listen to. Currently struggling to finish Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. It's a great book, but it's disjointed and hard to get through via audio. The Drenai sound familiar. Or is that Dranei?
The Drenai series is a general haeding for some of Gemmell's books. There are several sets or series within the Drenai series.
Hi,I live in Gloucester, England.
I just wish Charles Dickens had finished 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'. I've spent long hours pondering how where the story was going.
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Hi Sandy, welcome. I bet keeping the Parrot is a trick up there. My grandmother had a parakeet that suffered from winters in Virgina."Thanks Mike. My bird is almost always in the house. So, the winter doesn't affect her. We only take her outside on nice summer days.
Hi Brian, welcome.Sandy, I figured that. My grandmother took Pete with her everywhere and he didn't do well outside in winter.
Thank you for the invitation to join the group, Sean. I'm the author of the Steven Hawk/Inola Walela thriller series and love a great suspense novel. My favorites are Karin Slaughter, Gregg Hurwitz and Lisa Gardner. Looking forward to following the posts here.

Sorry if this is spammy . Not sure how to promote it. But I would like to gift a number of free downloads of my book via Smashwords, in exchange for reviews. Potential Reviewers -please contact me with your email address if you would like to pick up the link.
With thanks and best wishes, Anne Anon.
Hi, everyone,I'm Jean. I live in Rochester, MN but grew up in "Up North" near Duluth! MN. I also lived in the Minneapolis area for nearly 30 years, so it is great fun for me to read Minnesota authors like William Kent Krueger, Ellen Hart, and John Sandford. I also enjoy Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Sue Grafton, Sara Paretsky, Marcia Muller...I am fairly new to Goodreads and have been trying to add to my "read" shelf! I've recently read Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon and S .J. Bolton's Now You See Me, and I. Can't wait to read more by these authors and others as well. One lesson learned so far - it's difficult to read a 500-page book while lying on the bed with a cat rubbing his face on mine!
