Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments I suppose...according to Lemony Snicket anyway:
“Well-read people are less likely to be evil.”

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments And who are we to argue with Lemony Snicket?

message 3318: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments True...one must not challenge great wisdom without great cause. Lemony Snicket and words to live by.

Looks fantastic, with so many excellent recommendations from readers with different tastes. I enjoy mainly psychological thrillers and serial killer books, but I also love anything with a good storyline, like Dan Brown's Angels & Demons. Looking forward to seeing what else you guys read!
Carla :)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments Hi Carla...and anyone I might have missed. My cats have learned that they can jump between me and my monitor and I have to pay attention to them instead of the computer. This is a version of lying down across the pages of the book you're reading....

Anyway, I may have missed someone. I'm typing this quickly as one of the cats is eating and the other is asleep on the table where I do my leather work making sure I don't do that. After all humans are to do nothing except serve their feline masters...

Hi Mike,

You have cats and I have dogs, but our babies always rule the nest. My babies jump up and put their paws on the keyboard, when they want to play.

Oh, I noticed there is a book called "Ginger the Gangster Cat", on for tonights' Goodreads First Giveaway Contest. I thought you might be interested!

Sue

message 3330: by Dawn (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments Yes Mike and Sue, my babies run my house as well. They either like to lay in my lap and sleep or sit in my lap and try to lick my face while I'm trying to read. It would not be a big deal at all if they didn't do it together at the same time. A 25 lb beagle and a 15 lb beagle in a lap that is only so big can be a challenge at times. I'm not complaining though, I love it!!!

message 3331: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments My cats may not approve....

Xander (note spelling, my daughter was into Buffy the Vampire slayer at the time) is 17+ and he's definitely in charge. Our other cat is Luna (my wife was reading the Harry Potter books when this feline joined the family). She's younger than Xander (we think) as she was an adult when we moved into the house where she'd been abandoned. Our dog died some years ago and I don't want to bring any more animals into the house and jar the cats as their older.

message 3332: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Hi Dawn,

What we endure for love! We have 2 Lab brothers, 65 lbs each, with lots of love and licks to go.
My husband says the babies eat better than him...just joking, as I love to cook!

Casey (boolean4k) | 3 comments Hello! I am out here is East Texas. I am a "science-fiction-mystery-thriller" person (if there is no such category, then I just created it...;-) I am hoping to find some good recommendations through like-minded folks. I just finished 'The Last Policeman' series, and loved it.

message 3337: by Dawn (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments Welcome Casey. I am not into science fiction so I can't help you there. I'm sure someone in the group can hook you up with some good suggestions though. I know my list of books to read has steadily grown since joining the group.

I am on a Marcus Sakey Brilliance recommendation binge right now ( I get these binges every now and then) and I think that book- there are two in the series- might just be what you're looking for.

Btw if by scifi you mean space ships and work holes, then this book doesn't have those.

message 3340: by Alex (new)

Alex Ames (alex_ames_writing) | 1 comments Hi book lovers,
My name is Alex. As I am a pretty fast reader with about 150 pages and hour, I have a high throughput in books that I read (around 50-70 books / year). Wish I could write that fast to produce my own books more often.
I am always looking for new titles or serials in the thriller and mystery area!

Daisy | 313 comments Hello,

My name is Daisy Taylor. I live in Northeast Tennessee. I have 4 teenagers, 4 dogs and 2 cats. I have always loved to read and have shelves full of books. I have only read a small portion on my shelves but continue to buy and add to them.

I have read all the Stephanie Plum series, love a little humor. I really like Patterson,Slaughter,Grisham,Coben,Cornwell and so many more that it would just take too much room to list them.

I hope to meet many new friends and find many new great books to read.

By 'sci-fi' I suppose I mean any element of a story that includes dystopian, post-or-pre-apocalyptic, wormholes, spaceships, aliens, potential aliens, possible weirdness, time travel, etc...

So, I guess a more accurate assessment of my current reading style is 'mystery-thriller-with-science-fiction-element(s)'. There. That sounds about right!

Thank you for the warm welcome - looking forward to reading all of the discussions.

I'm a thriller reader and writer. I tend to go for the dark and gritty stuff, so take any recommendations I make with a health warning!
