R.J. Patterson (jackpatterson) | 16 comments Hi, everyone!

I'm Jack Patterson ... I write thrillers, but I love to read, too. Lee Child is one of my favorites, but it's a close call between him and Andrew Klavan. I also like the old espionage thrillers by John Lecarre, as well as anything by Michael Crichton. And I'll read anything where conspiracies abound!

Hello Jack

We have many Lee Childs fans here, including me, never heard of Andrew Klavan... Welcome to the group.

Laura

Welcome, lots of thriller recommendations here for great authors...

Two of my favourites for you both

Simon Kernick and David Baldacci

Is there such a thing as a favourite book?! I would struggle to name a top ten. Been asked to a few times. I know there's an all time favourite thread, but I wonder how many of you could name a top ten?!! Maybe you haven't read your all time favourite . . . yet!!

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Jack wrote: "Thanks, Autumn. So, what's your favorite thriller?"

Jack, some of my favorites include The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen, A Drink Before the war by Dennis Lehane, Now You See Me by SJ Bolton, Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter, Immoral by Brian Freeman and Iron Lake by Wm Kent Krueger, The Warrior by Ty Patterson. All of these also happen to be the first book in the series. You will get TONS of recommendations from this group, Jack. Big welcome!

MN Chris

Have you read any of Lehane's other work?

message 2628: by Christine (last edited Jun 05, 2014 06:19PM) (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Not yet, but his stuff is on my short list. I loved loved loved A Drink Before the War. I plan to finish that series and Shutter Island and Mystic River.
Have you read much Lehane, Cynthia?
Chris

message 2629: by Garrett (last edited Jun 05, 2014 06:35PM) (new)

Garrett Smith (garrettsmith) | 46 comments I have. Oddly, I have not read his detective series. I have read everything else he has written. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be The Given Day, a novel with a historical base (Boston police strike and global flu epidemic) providing the backdrop for a fictional dysfunctional but powerful family, and Shutter Island for a thriller.

Thank you for the mention,Christine. I have read a couple of Lehane..but I generally find them to be dark. There was one I remember where the central protagonist is a gangster whose daughter is killed.. Just didn't like that and stopped reading him after that.

I like the dark stuff in fiction novels, Ty. If these books were nonfiction, then I probably would shy away as I do not like reading about real people getting hurt. As long as innocent victims live only in the mind of the author, I am not that bothered. Maybe I'm a little deranged....(-:

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 1127 comments Hi, I've just joined this group because... well basically, I've recently published a thriller. My favourite genres are fantasy and thrillers. And though I've written and published several fantasy novels, I never thought I'd do a thriller. But the story entered my head and had to be told.

Rebecca Williamson | 4 comments Hi All! I'm Rebecca from Colorado, USA. I'm a writer and enjoy traveling, especially to Europe where my daughters and grandchildren live. Thanks, Sean, for inviting me to this interesting group, and sorry to be late introducing myself. I enjoy reading widely, especially mysteries, and sometimes thrillers. I'm especially fond of Preston & Child. My last few stand-out reads were:
Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn (which I approached reluctantly because her first book was a bit too dark for me)
The Various Haunts of Men, by Susan Hill
Shatter, by Michael Robotham

I write under different names to reflect my different subjects. As Sue Star, I write amateur sleuth mysteries, and as Rebecca Williamson, I write romantic suspense. I also write science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, and women's fiction. No thrillers yet, but who knows? I'm very happy to be here and look forward to sharing some great reads!
