I'm from Dublin, Ireland, and a keen reader. I like to keep fit, watch TV, go to movies, figure puzzles out, and write.

I'm also a veteran and a cloud engineer, journalist and now an author who has been on Goodreads for a while now.

As I'm an author, I hope I can hopfully introduce you to my debut novel at some point.

Nice to meet ya also. Its a thriller of Jack Debaut and his war on terror. He was a US Army Ranger in Desert Storm, got injured and boarded from the Army.

His recovery saw him retrain as an engineer and get drawn into the murky world of intelligence and counterintelligence. His war on terror timeline was long as it was for the antagonist Saad al-Zahoni.

Their murky world is a complex plot of ruthless ambitions, neck breaking betrayals and characters doing their best in a world that never cuts them a break.

For release September 11th, I went wide with distributions, so Amazon and Kindle are just one choice.

Other than my horses, I did books in my school days (chick lit). I’m not happy with noisy places, so avoid the pubs and clubs: I fell off a horse when I was young and banged my tiny brain quite hard (weeks in the hospital, and I couldn’t remember too about it once they let me out). The doctors don’t know if that has anything to do with it - I just get wrinkly in crowded, noisy places. Even a household party makes my head buzz and me get bothered. I gave the books up once I was full-time on the farm, but now I'm without the TV and the books, good books this time around, are here to stay. Joining Goodreads has added to the pleasure.

I'm a nurse and work in a care home for the elderly. Fortunately for me, I have a room - I'm usually on call - and so, food is cooked for me, I have no need to commute and I've little interest in the television and, Bedford's main library is a fifteen-minute walk from my work.

I look after (clean and tidy) my parent's guest house (Bed without Breakfast) here in Portugal. It backs onto an orange grove that leads to the hills. It is pretty scenic. I enjoy my own space and the peace of reading.

Dear Mr Davies, thank you for your kind words. I'm grateful to the people I care for. They are full of wisdom, wit, and wise cracks. I have such fun talking with them.
They say the most important part of nursing is talking with the patient, understanding them and answering their concerns. I'd say, the most enjoyable part of nursing is talking to the patient: it is really interesting and I learn a great deal about a great many things.
I hope to learn from the group and I appreciate you letting me join up.

I'm a nurse and did a stint with the neuro-medics. I hope you don't mind me saying... "That's not uncommon, Beth. I'm not saying it happens to everyone, having taken a bang on the head, but you are not alone. I'm sure the medics must have told you of it.
I've never taken a bang but have spent a good deal of my time in quiet spaces. I get wrinkly in noisy places!"
You said, "I couldn’t remember too [much] about it once they let me out. That is common with a bang on the head. It can last for years and years before, if it ever does, come back.
I hope you're okay with me saying: if you are worried at all, I'm sure your GP or a local hospital would be happy to chat about it.

Hello Ellie. Many thanks for responding and most sincere apologies for only just picking it up: I have just realised that I am no longer getting my Goodreads feed to my email address (if someone can help in this regard I'd be grateful for suggestions). BTW, PK is easier than the formal Mister. I am now of an age where care-homes are in my orbit so I know how important your work is . When the body fails the brain is often still motoring and communications is all old people have with the lives they have lived, so that's how important you are. Keep caring - and read books to your patients. That way it's a win-win for you and them.

Hello everyone,
I’m a senior who lives in the Chicago suburbs.
I occasionally read a thriller. I don’t know if you consider the Harry Bosch novels as thrillers; I read most of them and then tired of reading any more of them. I had detected a predictable pattern or sameness to them.
I’m trying to find a thriller I started reading in the early 1970s. I don’t recall the title or author but he was probably a white American man. The protagonist is a Frenchman whose recently completed his compulsory military service where he was the regimental boxing champion. Now he is nude sunbathing on the Riviera, the only male amid a bevy of unclad female beauties, a sort of bull walrus with his harem. A James Bond spoof taking itself seriously. Of course, he is disturbed by a phone call from the French government which needs him for a desperate mission to same humanity and he is reluctant to go. That’s as far as I got. Any ideas, anyone?
