I love any mystery/thriller but am especially drawn to dark crime thrillers that present a slightly "hyper-real" world. For example, I love Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series because, while they are incredibly dark and are always chock full of interesting information about real-world topics, the actual stories are not nitty-gritty realism. Instead, the bad guys are all diabolically brilliant and the heroes are all vaguely superhuman. It's the same reason I love the ever so slightly "hyper-real" work of Lee Child, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Laurie King, the Kellermans, Lisa Gardner, Kathy Reichs, Thomas Harris, and John Sandford. I definitely do not want stark realism while I read about Jack Reacher, ha! I want to watch a juggernaut of pure vengeance in action.
My inner-archaeologist is also drawn to stories with strong cultural historical elements like James Rollins and (yes, I'll admit it) Dan Brown. I steer clear of psychological thrillers that feature unreliable narrators and a whole cast of toxic people. I totally get why people enjoy them, but I prefer my protagonist to be a "white-hat" driven by a code of ethics (especially if that code often gets them in trouble).
As I said, I'm now an author and my crime thriller, Caged, just launched a few weeks ago. To be honest, I was only a tangential Goodreads user before my book launched, and I'm only just now discovering what an amazing place it can be. I can't wait to meet you all and talk about books!

2 and 3 are a subgenre called symphonic power metal. This genre's main nickname is "cinematic metal" because it's the kind of music John Williams might have written if he wrote for a metal band instead of Lucas and Spielberg.

I am Ricky and live n New Zealand with my wife and new born. I was just reading Beth's post and thinking about my own journey to joining this group.
I left school early and didn't gain qualifications but with a dream of university. 13 years later I walked through the gates of one for the first time knowing i'd have to tackle my dislike of reading. what happened next blew me away... I was dyslexic! I left Uni three years later with a double major in History and Sociology but more importantly a love of reading.
I have slowly evolved to love psychological thrillers as a book of choice but I am happy with most fiction but it has to be edge of your seat gripping!
Look forward to participating in the group.

Hi, Lukasz. Your "Welcome to the Family" URL is Hanggai - Baifang (Official Video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNJ_F...

I have published 13 books till now, the last three of them are thrillers. Before I published novels, travel and even guides books to India and china. I started to write thrillers after a silence in writing which took hold of me for a long 10 years. Than looking back I saw that in all my novels been threads of investigations.
I am an avid reader of thrillers. normally at night time or while travel. i am a bookworm since childhood. I grew up on classics and adventures which brought me to my other professions: travel tv host, journalist and now a guide. I have been to more than 110 countries.
so I am quite excited to this big change and I hope to be more active on Goodread as a way to discover new friends with similar interests and hopefully new readers.
Death in Shangri-la is my second thriller but the first one to be translated into English. it is published by Oceanview publishers usa.
Death in Shangri-La is based on three real events: the first event that inspired me to write it was meeting the late Daniel Pearl, the American journalist in Oman two months prior to his 2002 murder in Pakistan. Soon after that I became the first embedded Israeli journalist in the second Iraqi war; the second event was the horror I felt when I heard about the massacre that took place at the Chabad House in Mumbai, India in 2008; the third event was when I discovered that one of the weapons used by the terrorists in India was a Tavor, an Israeli assault rifle. I thought – how is it possible that we Israelis have a part in this terrible event. I had to sit down to process this and write.
Death in Shangri-La is part hard-boiled detective mystery and part contemporary thriller. . It’s raw and authentic – that the way I write. I hope that it is unbeatable entertainment.

I’m Lisa and live in New Orleans, LA, with my husband, two children, and five dachshunds. My very favorites to read include mysteries and thrillers, but I also love re-reading my favorite classics from Jane Austin and the Bronte sisters. Right now, I’m enjoying Linda Castillo’s Kate Burkholder mysteries. I’m so excited to join your group and share our reading experiences! :)

My favorite thriller/horror author is of course Stephen King. By joining this group I hope to find other authors that write mystery/thriller books. :)

Really excited to be here and be involved with your group. Look forward to becoming part of the community.

I'm Henry Taba from Malaysia. I had been lost for the past few years, until I discovered my passion. Writing is difficult at the beginning, messy in the middle but it is rewarding at the end as I found a passage to share the story that I have been keen to keep it for myself—but not anymore. Anyway, cheer to those who write and happy reading for the rest.
