I hope you get better, Dan. At least you live in a great place like London. I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. After I graduated from UCLA, I returned to St. Louis and began writing murder/mysteries. I have had four published. I have had MS for several years now. Can't write much--and worse, I met a girl who was from the mountains of Tennessee and moved here with her. A lot of moonshine and good, ol' boys in pick-up trucks.

Verity Salter (veritysalter) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Verity and I'm 37. I live in Yorkshire, England, with my husband, two children and my dog.
The first book I can remember truly becoming engrossed in was Matilda by Roald Dahl, I was transported. Reading for me is a passion and an escape; my tastes are eclectic, although the genres of crime, mysteries and thrillers are my favourite (my downstairs loo is dedicated to the complete works of Agatha Christie!).
I have just begun 'The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' the debut novel by Stuart Turton, and am gripped. I can't wait until the working day is over so I can get back to it (I work from home, so the temptation is hard), to curl up in front of the fire, with the dog on my lap and be carried away to a time gone by.

Hi and a big hello to

Verity and Cynthia

lots of new members.

message 8111: by Verity (new)

Verity Salter (veritysalter) | 3 comments Hi Cynthia, thank you for your welcome and introduction. My children are Evelyn 13 years and Jack 11yrs, My dog is called Coco, she is a French Bulldog and is 16 months old, she is just like a third child, and views herself as such.
I too am a convert to the countryside, I grew up in the suburbs of South Yorkshire, before moving to London for university, I lived there for five years, then I moved back to Yorkshire to start my family, we live in a small village at the foot of the Pennines (a range of mountains and hills). I must admit though, I do miss London.

I used to love story time at school, and I'm sad that it seems to have been lost to this current generation, always too much curriculum based work to do. My daughter loves to read, she also likes a mystery, my son prefers to read non fiction when he's not on his Xbox or playing football. I think that there should always be time for stories, it helps to unwind and relax.

Where in Italy do you intend to visit? I have never been. Our summer vacation will be to the French Alps, my husband likes to mountain bike, I like to walk my dog (and read in the many bars and cafes) and the kids do all kinds of adventures.

I've not really got to grips with the goodreads groups yet, I promise to persevere and I hope to expand my reading horizons.

Verity x

Ella Bruce-Kelly | 1 comments Hi, my names Ella, I’m only 16 and 17 in two weeks. I live in the UK and I’m currently doing a levels (if you know what they are haha).
I’ve never been a reader and I haven’t read any harry potters, hunger games etc over my childhood but have recently got into reading again as a way to relax and entire my own little world. I’m open to any suggestions of books anyone is itching to tell the world about as I want to widen my collection.
I’m really into thrillers and mysteries, in book form and tv show form, I also enjoy motivational self help books as a way to keep a positive perspective on life. Think that’s all I have to say but nice to meet you all :) x

message 8114: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Welcome, Ella! I would suggest Agatha Christie, Ruth Rendell, Ngaio Marsh for starters. They are reasonably short. This is a friendly group. There are a lot of people here to make suggestions.

message 8115: by Adrianna (new)

Adrianna (adriannacontreras) Hello Sean...everyone. I am new to the group. My name is Adriana. I am Colombian born, U.S.A. raised. A midwestern girl at heart, but have been living in Florida for many years now. It has been a sad time for us, as I live in the city where the 17 children were murdered by a gunman. The school is my daughter's soon to be high school and my backyard. We are dealing with a lot, and it is my books that have really kept me afloat and allowed me to travel to a different place, where things believe it or not, seem more real. I have a little girl of 11 a dog and a cat. A puppy will be coming to our home tomorrow, so we have a big fur family! I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, and spending quality time alone. I look forward to future reads with you! Thanks for having me.

Welcome Ella,

great to have young thriller lovers, many members of all ages, anf lots of different countries.

Adriana,

welcome, I thought to the many relatives and family members of the young children killed in such a horrible tragedy.

I am British but do believe if guns were banned we would not have this problems.

Welcome to the group

Mehrisa Mex | 9 comments Hello!

I'm Mehrisa - I'm new to the group. I like to read all sorts of books (currently reading Evelyn Waugh's 'Scoop'), but I do love a good thriller - on the page and on screen. I also write in the mystery-thriller genre.

I look forward to being part of this community of fellow thriller-seekers. And as you can tell, I also like to pun. :)

Haha! Godzilla... I love it! Thanks Amber! I tried to find the origin for the welcome URLs but this is a long thread. Is the thinking behind it as delightfully random as I'm hoping it is?

message 8123: by Amber (last edited Mar 01, 2018 10:10AM) (new)

Amber Martingale Pretty much, yeah. Everyone, unless I'm feeling exceptionally lazy, gets his or her own URL based on whatever's currently playing on my YouTube playlists.

If I'm feeling exceptionally lazy, I send the same URL to everyone that has joined since the last time I was online.

For example, if fifteen people had joined since yesterday and I didn't want to send 15 individual URLs, I'd send a mass version of Deadpool vs Boba Fett. Epic Rap Battles of History - Bonus Battle!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g708P...

It's a splendid ritual. In that case, may I respond in kind with a Thank You URL from one off one of my last watched Youtube videos -

Sue (mrskipling) Hi there. I'm Sue from the south coast of the UK. I've joined this group to get some recommendations for thrillers because I'm trying to read outside my normal range, which is largely crime mysteries. Mind you I'm a real wimp so I don't like graphic violence or really gritty, gruesome stories. I suppose I'm looking for the Agatha Christie of the thriller world! ;-)

I'm looking forward to reading some reviews, so that I can see what other people are getting out of thrillers.

Paul Gonterman Hi Everyone,
I live Indianapolis and work in Logistics. I read anything that sparks an interest but my first love is Crime Fiction. I'm currently working my way through Michael Connelly's Bosch series and Joe Nesbo's Harry Hole series. I look forward to your recommendations, because I know there is so much more out there for me to enjoy.

Kevin Miller | 17 comments Hi, I'm Kevin Miller. I was a U.S. Navy fighter pilot in a previous life. Today I'm a military techno-thriller author writing about that previous life with some success. Just finished my third novel; should be out by September.

My reading interests are based in history, historic fiction, biography, and geo-politics, but I've read stuff from Crime Mysteries, Romance, even books about teen witches. I live in Florida with my wife (three grown sons) and we enjoy boating and traveling. Researching my next project; historic fiction about the Battle of Midway. That research includes a flight in a vintage SBD Dauntless dive-bomber. Happy reading to everyone.

Elaine Crockett | 2 comments Hi, I write as Elaine Williams Crockett because there are so many Elaine Crocketts out there! I spent my legal career as an Attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at the United States Federal Trade Commission in Washington DC, and live in Georgetown with my husband, Don Crockett, and a cat who declined to be named.

I write legal/political thrillers. My first book, Do Not Assume, won 9 national book awards. My second book, Do Not Ask, was published last October. I absolutely love to write, and after a career as an attorney, I can't believe what fun I'm having!

I hope that readers - or other authors - will feel free to contact me. I am always thrilled to hear from other bookophiles and interested in what you think. I am also interested in the experiences of other authors. Anyone can reach me through Goodreads, on my website (www.elainewilliamscrockett.com), or by email at elaine.crockett@verizon.net.
