Why are they taking your tablet away? it's YOURS not THEIRS so legally they can't do that, can they?

Living Off Grid is pretty cool. My husband and I built our own house 7 years ago in May and he designed our solar system. It has been quite an adventure in learning.

UH..OH…the hot seat??? Now I'm scared.:)

Alan Veale (alanveale) | 5 comments Hi guys, my name is Alan and I’m introducing myself as both a reader and a writer. Obviously I would like people to read my (one and only so far) book, but let’s stick with the bio for the minute:
I live in the beautiful Ribble Valley in Lancashire, England but was born in Manchester. (Yes, that one with a couple of football clubs.) I’m semi-retired at 62. By that I mean it’s real tough to get another job just now! I’ve been a civil servant in the Land Registry for 30 years and done a few other things, like photography, acting, locksmithing and parenting. I’ve also had experience as a divorcee twice over, but I still have a smile on my face because I got married for the third time last year! (So far, so good then...) Just two kids from marriage number two, both at uni, and will no doubt make their dad proud.
My passion (apart from books) is live theatre, and it was scriptwriting that I started off with when I first joined an amateur group at the age of 20. I’m still writing for the theatre, but my one attempt at a novel (The Murder Tree) has been well-received so far, and I’ve three copies to give away on Goodreads starting yesterday...
https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
I have read a wide range of books but my main interest is in mystery and thrillers, hence my reason for joining this group. It is nearly seven years since I last contributed to a similar discussion/forum, but I will try to get up to speed if you’ll let me!
All the best to my fellow readers (and writers!).

Goodreads is addicting. Have fun.

BTW, good luck on your marriage…third time is a charm right?:) I have a grandson who is all about stage acting. He just did an audition to spend his senior year of High School at an acting University. The family is crossing their fingers for him.

You are so right, but I was a slow learner! Acting University?? I would have loved that opportunity, but I missed the boat on leaving school - and I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up...

Magpie67 | 49 comments Hello, my name is Dena.

I've been married for 20 yrs, have two teenagers who keep me very busy with sports and school activities such as band, speech etc. etc. I've been forever, it seems, the fall soccer coordinator for the youth in our community, I'm a mentor for a young girl at our school and I have a local book club. I've been working at the small newspaper in our town for almost 17 yrs as the accounting/office manager but for the last 10 yrs have written a weekly article for my club. So... that is my favorite part of my job! I advocate readers to spend time at the library and to take their children/grandchildren there as well and I review books I have read or want to read.

I participate in several clubs on goodreads and locally. I found that I needed to diversify my reading genres and my Iowa Western lunch book club that meets in Harlan has been a very good fit. I love, love mysteries (from the dark to the cozies from thrillers with FBI to PI) but this group and my other local Wednesday night group have proven there are other good books to read.

I love to read books, chat about books and research books! I always have one or two paperbacks in my purse and sometimes I stuff my Kindle in there... just in case. My absolute love is holding a hardback book in my hand though. I have multiple series that I read from and I'm always finding a new series to add to my stacks. Which can be dangerous as the 2BR pile is quite tall.

I look forward to chatting with everyone!

M.C. Browne (MCBrowne) | 13 comments Hello fellow book lovers,

My first introduction. I love books. I read one sometimes two at a time. My favourite author has to be Jay McInerney. I like crime, thrillers, love stories with a twist. I also write. Lots. I attended the Faber Academy in 2012 for six months which just left me feeling very insecure about my writing - Although I also left with a reading list of about 100 books I had never previously heard of! Most of the people on the writing course with me had never heard of Marian Keyes ( who I also love ) - so it was all fair and equitable. My reading taste changed significantly after that and I discovered Julian Barnes and Harriet Lane. I then went to Curtis Brown for six months – I blogged about it on www.MCBrowne.com and Curtis Brown put a watered down version on their website. Over the last two years I’ve met dozens of authors and read every type of book. My first book Second Life Losing You Saving Me was published last month on Amazon and is going into Waterstones ( and other bookstores) next month. Its a contempory thriller – with a twist. So far it has been getting mostly five star reviews and I was honoured to be asked by a Good Reads reviewer for a copy – which I have just sent out. I am happy to send a copy (mobi) to anyone during April to review if they wish to critique it for me - before the hard copies go into the shops. Email me at www.mcbrowne.com I don’t expect it to be for everyone but if, like me, you love a book which is fast easy and unexpected then do just drop me an email. I am happy to reciprocate as I have just finished my second book first draft and I’m going to do some serious reading for a few months.

I do a lot of my reading with Audio books as it gives me more reading time. Have enjoyed a lot of authors mentioned in the above posts & I have many favorites including Eliot Pattison whose Tibetan mystery series with Inspector Shan are pretty unique. If you haven't read any, I highly recommend them.

Jen | 48 comments Hello. Jen, hailing from the Midlands via London, Leicester and Arizona... I had a book addiction as a child and used to write stories and poetry until life and being grown up got in the way.

I hadn't really read books in years up until recently but I'm now back on a three a week habit. Expensive but a lot healthier than smoking so what the heck...

I have eclectic tastes in music, movies and literature, love my pooches and the mongy meowster of a cat that I live with. Trying to restart my writing and it's a long slog. Even if it goes nowhere I'm still having fun and it keeps me busy. Escapism from the boring 9-5.

Recently been enjoying Stuart Macbride and gone through 13 of his books in 2 weeks. Any similar suggestion welcomed. Have fun all.
