Nalini Singh
I love her Psy/Changeling series. So far, I've read four books and one novella from the series, and I can't get enough of it.I find her style of writing excellent, and she seemed to have a very firm grasp on vocabulary that clearly reflects "feline" behavior. Plus her world building is well-crafted with a very sophisticated and intricate over-arching plot of political intrigue being moved along smoothly with the stories, without taking away from the romance of the lead hero and heroine in each book.
Can I just say I'm a fan?..LOL..
Nalini Singh has an extraordinary gift of giving her characters and world a unique voice in a genre where another series about shifters could be lost. I have read Book 1 and 2 in her Psy-Changling books and it is like revisiting a particularly lucid dream memory. I think of a scene and it brings back all sorts of feelings and emotions. She is not your average romance writer for sure.
Even reading her HQN romance was a treat because of her ability to craft characters so outside the norm of formulaic romance.
I love her books! I just finished Angels' Blood last week... Does anyone know if this new series is set in the same world as the Psy-Changelings world? I couldn't decide upon reading it if it was or not...
Theresa, I loveddd Angels' Blood!! I think it might be a seperate world because I don't remember any mention of psys or changelings.I can't wait to see how she further develops the plot in the next book. I wasn't expecting that ending at all!! Black wings... who would have guessed it lol.
Shazzy,Be aware that there is one book between the two, Visions of Heat. You might want to read that before jumping to Caressed by Ice.
I discovered this author a couple months ago and I have fallen in love with her Psy/Changling series. I still have to read Hostage to Pleasure and I'll be all caught up for when Branded by Fire comes out in July. I agree that the world she's created is amazing. It's detailed and rich. I finished Angel's Blood a couple days ago and loved it too. I'm so intrigued by Dmitri. I want to find out more about him.
Dimitri is definitely an interesting character, I wonder if her next book in the series will focus on him or if it will focus on Elena and Raphael.I definitely want to find out more about what happens to them, but I also want to know more about the secondary characters like Dimitri, and the blue winged angel.. I can't rememeber his name.
Because I'm such a stalker I was checking out her blog the other day and she had a q&a post (found here: Nalini Singh's Weblog: Q&A). In it she said that book 2 is about the same characters. The blue winged angel is Ilium; he's fun, I like him. Wasn't there another angel that had black wings too? I wanted to find out what was going on about him. There definitely seems to be a lot in the world left to discover, just like in the Psy/Changling series.
I think there was one that had black wings... but I also don't remember that characters name.I'm so excited to hear that she is definitely going to have another book in the series. :)
It's strange but Nalini Singh is huge internationally and yet here, in NZ, I think her work is really beginning to be recognised. I discovered her work by accident about 3 or 4 yrs ago and would avidly await her Psy-Changeling series. I was so stoked to meet her (well hell, NZ is that small you are quite likely to bump into everyone sooner or later heh). She's very humble and is a local and I have to giggle that she can slip in and out of the libraries without being noticed ;) I absolutely LOVE her books!

Tosca, it's so strange that you say that--just this morning hubby and I were talking about NZ authors, and I mentioned Nalini Singh. He was surprised that she is as well-known internationally as she is, when she's almost never mentioned here. And you know how we like to make a big deal about our writers, how they have such a distinctive voice, etc etc, and yet NS remains virtually unknown here unless you're into paranormal romance.
And oh wow, how exciting that you get to see her!

Thanks for the link=)
All of this talk about Singh made me want to re-read her series over again!I re read the first and the second, and I started thinking about which book was my favorite. I can't really pick one, but I think that the first book is my least favorite.
Anyone notice how in series books the first one is usually not as good as the others?
possible spoiler?
I can't wait to read about Hawke though.. I keep wondering if they are going to put him with Sienna. Anyone else getting that feeling???

Jess, I agree--STS is probably my least favourite in the series. I've got a soft spot for Dorian, and I loved how completely independent Ashaya was, so I'm going with Hostage to Pleasure as my personal fave.
And yup, I think Hawke and Sienna are going to be explosive. But I have to admit I am totally hanging out for Mercy's book. She and Riley have been sparking off each other for way too long--something needs to happen!

Based on the brief excerpt after Dorian's book, I'm also itching for Mercy's book. Singh is just a master at strange pairings and pulling it off very well. Talk about classic opposites...feline vs canine...LOLJess, I have that feeling about Hawke and Sienna, too. Can't wait how will that unfold.
I read STS because I saw a favorable review on someone's blog. It escapes me which blog. I think Dionne Galace but I'm not sure. Anywho, once I read it I went and bought all the other books in the series. I went to 3 different book stores to get them all. I think I love Caressed by Ice the best followed by Dorian's story. I read Angel's Blood and although I liked it I didn't love it. I'm pretty sure it is set in a different world than the Psy/Changeling series. I just wasn't as invested in the characters. I am intrigued by Illium and Dimitri though so I will buy the next book when it comes out.
I just finished her novella "Stroke of Enticement" that is part of the anthology, The Magical Christmas Cat. Again another lovely piece from her Psy/Changeling world. I just love her style of writing.Clorinda,
Caressed by Ice is also my fave. Judd is one hot Psy...isn't that an oxymoron or something?..LOL..but Singh made it possible.
I've been trying to get my greedy little hands on her novella with Nate and Tammy but I can't seem to find it.
Yay, just finished Angels' Blood. It was good. Very different from the Psy series, but still good. She's got a fantastically vivid imagination, and such a great eye for detail. Can't wait for the next book.
my copy of *Angels' Bloodjust arrived::after reading all the comments i'm really looking forward to starting it::have two others to read before then tho'::
i've now finished *Angels Blood* and thought it was sooooo good::infact i gave it 5 stars::i loved the characters and the world Nalini has created::the storyline did not remind me of any books that i've read recently so that was good too: the ending was an unexpected twist::she could have gone for the obvious::but the little twist was better::i'm looking forwardto the next book::and have also added the first of the Psy books to my TBR shelf::
I loved Angels Blood, I wish that there were already more books out in the series. But no, we have to wait awhile for the next one!
mind you the good thing about starting a series close to the release of the first book is that you don't need to do a marathion read to catch up::i'm still ploughing my way thru Dark Hunter books::i swear that woman writes quicker than i can read:)::
lol, that's so true. Although, it is nice to be able to just read through them and have so many books to read without having to wait for the new release. When I first read through the Dark Hunters it was great.. until I got to the last one and then had to wait for Acheron! That was terrible lol.
SLIGHT SPOILERSFirst I'll say what I did like. The sex and sexual tension was good. I liked the secondary charicters like the blue winged angel, and her male side kick, the American Indian Guy.
But I had difficulties. The main protag I never believed. She was too pseudo-tough. The stabbing of the main guy and all the running and talking trash. Him, going from a sociapathic angel to a softy. No. I likes me some tough girls but again, the story did convince me she really was.
I did think she wrote pretty good and will try one of the Changeling books. It may have been this particular charicter rubbed me wrong and I'll like another world by this author. Its happened before.
Ok I have had this book since I dunno Feb and I just now read Slave to Sensation and WOW what a great book! I mean it was a really good story so I of course went out and brought the rest of the series LOL.
Dawn,You are in for a treat. I have to admit I wasn't sure whether i was going to like Slave to Sensation because of that cheesy pink cover, but the whole series is excellent. The characters are alive, the romance sexy and hot, plus the overarching plot is intriguing enough to keep you satisfied.
Yz you are so right I kept looking at the cover and putting it aside LOL. In this case you cannot judge a book by its cover!
LOL..yeah..i have to admit the covers of her Psy/Changeling books need some work...If I didn't like the first book, I don't think I would pick them up.
lol, the covers are a little cheesy, even the names of the books are kinda cheesy but they are still good :)
Anybody read this new excerpt for the next Psy/Changeling book?http://nalinisingh.blogspot.com/2009/...
Definitely excited to read Mercy and Riley's story.
Geez, I forgot to mention which book I was talking about. I read Angel's Blood.Lily wrote: "SLIGHT SPOILERS

I read it, how good does that book sound??? It's going to be killer
Her new guild hunter books is coming out in February I believe. Does anyone know if it's going to be centered on different characters? or is it following the characters from the first book?
After reading through this thread I definitely think I"m going to go pick up Angels' Blodd if it is this highly recommended.
new_user wrote: "It's following the same characters, but I don't know if there will be a new romance subplot or not."Awesome. I want to know what happens next. I won't say too much because there are people who still haven't read it yet.
Kyle - I would strongly recommend getting the book. It was pretty awesome ;)
I love her Psy-Changeling series--I needed a pink covered book for a challenge last month so I used STS, even though I was totally embarrassed to pick it up at the library. :)Well, I have now been embarrassed many times over at the library, because I have read all of them except the latest--I have it on hold at the library but it is taking forever to come in.
My faves are Brenna & Judd's Caressed By Ice and Mercy & Riley's Branded by Fire.
The covers are so cheesy.. but they're great reads!!I've gotten most on my kindle, but I have the first one in paperback and the newest one. So embarrassing lol.
I have to agree with you all about this author, I really like her and the whole world she built with the Psy/Changling.I do think it seems like Hawk and Sienna are heading together, but wasn't there something in a couple of books where there is only one mate for each of the changlings and his died? Plus isn't there a huge age difference there? Not that that matters all that much because I would like to see them together. I do like how she is able to jerk his chain and he pretty much just takes it.
Yeah, there is something about only one mate for a changeling, so I don't know how that will work out.
Jess wrote: "The covers are so cheesy.. but they're great reads!!"I love the books, but I'm still laughing over the leopard-spotted men looking seductive.

Well, the one thing that I can think of is that technically they never mated. Hawke just said he "knew" she was going to be his mate.
So maybe that will be the exclusion to the rule. Who knows.. she can come up with whatever loophole she wants lol.
I think it will be interesting to see them together. Hawke is going to fight it the whole way though haha.
I suppose that is the one thing about creating your own world, you can always make it do what you want. Now if only we could do that in real life!!

She has the psy-changeling series, and then I just picked up her book Angels' Blood which is the first book in a new series. I think it's about vamps.. maybe.
Anyway, I just thought that her psy-changeling series was excellent! she created an awesome world with changelings (who are basically similar to shifters, and they change to one animal only. there are the leopards/panthers, and the wolfs) then there are the psys. which are humans with extraordinary mental gifts and the inability to feel emotions.
I just thought it was a unique set of books, and wondered what other people thought about it.
