Please edit or correct or delete this quote. (part 3)

No idea. The quotes that are chosen are nearly always good ones. It tends to be the attribution that is at fault if anything is. I would have thought that a bell would have run somewhere given that there are currently FOUR versions of the quote by THREE different people (none of whom seem to be the originator of the saying). That tells me that something needs looking at before making one of them the QotD.

Whoever submits, or decides on, quotations for the Quote of the Day needs to exercise due diligence. I think citing the source (ORIGINAL source, not some lame Internet link to someone's blog or some such thing) should be required, in addition to the quotation and the author.
Any suggestions for changes to the selection process for QoTD should be sent via the Contact Us link on the Help page.

Thank you. I just submitted my suggestion as directed.

The person this quote is attributed to is a character from Shingeki no kyojin/Attack on titan by Hajime Isayama. This character also has his own author profile.

Can someone please fix this?
Edit: The correct spelling of the character's name is Armin Arlert.

Thank you, Banjomike. So, I take it when it comes to the Goodreads Quote of the Day, fact checking is not a job requirement.

Fixed. I combined the two entries.

“You see, the broccoli was yours and I give it back to you. The remote control is yours but I used it to use it most and so now I give it back to you. The wardrobe should've been yours on that day we argues in Ikea, so I give it to you now. And finally this ring, in your hand, which represents my heart, is, was, and will always be yours. Even if you turn me down, I can't even take it back because it's yours forever.”

Fixed that a couple of other mistakes.

It helps if you provide a link to the specific quote.

Working on #782... Done.

This link represents at least 40 pages of quote result spam that turned up when I did a keyword search for "451 television". I deleted a handful of them before realizing how many there are. Can a super librarian please delete them en masse, maybe by identifying the poster? Thank you!
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1047...
Re 785: Superlibrarians have no greater abilities when it comes to deleting spam quotes than any other librarian. Staff is working on these, but there is a deletion backlog at the moment so it may take some time.

It's the one about judging a fish by its ability to climb a tree. http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/10145...
There are plenty of references to a book that appeared to quote him - here's one. http://quoteinvestigator.com/2013/04/...
"Quote Investigator: There is no substantive evidence that Einstein made this statement. It does not appear in the comprehensive collection of quotations “The Ultimate Quotable Einstein” from Princeton University Press.
"The earliest evidence of a close match known to QI appeared in 2004, and that is decades after the death of Einstein in 1955. The self-help book “The Rhythm of Life: Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose” by Matthew Kelly contained a chapter titled “Everybody is a Genius” which began: . . . "

It's the one about judging a fish by its ability to climb a tree. http://www...."
Yeah, good luck with that, Pat. As far as the Quote of the Day, Goodreads appears to have little (read no) interest in checking on the provenance of quotations or, as far as I can see, remediating an error once it is pointed out to them. As an example, read message 765 above from Banjomike.
Amanda Cooper, a "Goodreads expert," has written me: "The focus of quotes, and other editorial features on the site, is to promote relevant or interesting site activity, and not to be definitive or factual."
Yes, you read that correctly - the focus of quotes is not to be factual! In my opinion, if someone puts words in quotation marks or otherwise represents it as a quotation by labeling it as such, then they are (or should be) attesting to the faithfulness of the words as being what was actually written or spoken by the person labeled as the author.
In the world of literature, I believe my opinion is consistent with sound literary practice. On Goodreads, however, my opinion seems to be in the minority, at least among those in charge of the Quote of the Day.
I don't get it, really.

The Einstein 'fish' quote already has tags for
'attributed-no-source' and 'attributed-to-einstein-no-source'. When a quote is famous it doesn't do any good to simply delete it because someone will always re-add it. They do that even when the quote already exists. I've just combined four versions into the main one. Many famous quotes have no provable source, including number one on our list “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” It isn't just a Goodreads problem.
Denis wrote: "Amanda Cooper, a "Goodreads expert," has written me: "The focus of quotes, and other editorial features on the site, is to promote relevant or interesting site activity, and not to be definitive or factual."
That is very disappointing. Some of us spend loads of time chasing attributions and flagging crap (but not quote spammers any more). If Goodreads is no longer interested in maintaining the Quotes database then that seems like a waste of time.

Thanks, Banjomike. It was nice to think for a while that Goodreads wouldn't be just another place for people to make up their own facts.

I don't get it either, Denis. Maybe they should let the Librarians Group monitor the "quotes".
It's certainly easy enough to say "often attributed to Mark Twain but not yet verified" or words to that effect.

I should have added, "so don't quote us", I guess.

This statement is inaccurate. It sounds like we provided Amanda with some bad information, and I really apologize for the confusion!
Our editorial team rigorously sources the Quote of the Day. In some cases (like the Johnny Cash quote), there is no attribution for an interesting or topical quote that we'd like to use, as the quote might be from a live appearance. If there are no conflicting misattributions, then we occasionally will use a quote without a definitive source for the QOTD. However, it sounds like we'll be rethinking this going forward, and will try to err on the side of caution.
If you have feedback about the QOTD, please email us at support at goodreads dot com. We'd be happy to pass it along to the editorial team.

We are still just as committed to maintaining our database and metadata as we always have been! Flagging spammers in Quotes is extremely helpful; we're looking at some of those patterns to build better checks for spam prevention. Inaccurate quotes and misattributions can be fixed by librarians. The support staff is also invested in fixing these issues, but since we have so many user-generated quotes, we aren't able to manually check them all before they're posted.

Any progress in restoring the quote adder to the log?

I hadn't noticed that. Looks good. I've celebrated by flagging nine spammers and a block of 58 thousand spam quotes (nearly all on the same topic).

I thought we were talking about the validity of the quote. It looks like spam at first, because of the code aspect - but since it's directly taken from the work, and was added by a real user, then it is a valid quote for our database.

Thanks for the encouragement, Emily. It's nice to know someone is trying.

Probably not, but only because 'politicians' and 'truth' don't normally go together. The 'truth' part is commenting on an Obama quote but I would remove the links to external websites.

Thanks again, Susie. I read that whole thread to which you alluded and, given the constraints of the system, I feel it was handled in the best way possible. However, those two quotations, while quite similar, were not nearly identical. Bodett's quotation was virtually identical to Burnap's, though, so the two situations are only tangentially related, in my opinion.
I, too, am curious how the Quote of the Day is chosen. I also am curious how much, or what kind of, due diligence is done on the quotation before it is chosen and emailed/published. As I wrote earlier, Burnap's quotation has been a Goodreads Quote of the Day on at least 2 separate occasions, and misattributed to both Joseph Addison and to Alexander Chalmers. Doesn't anyone at Goodreads in charge of the Quote of the Day check on these things?
