Oh, I really like it! Of course, my vote doesn't count. ☺

Donna Wolczyk | 75 comments I think it's a great name!! Why am I stuck here at work dealing with horrible customers, when I could be at home reading!!!! :)

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you for liking/loving my suggestion.

message 59: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I like the name. I think we should keep it. :)

Finished Breed by Chase Novak today. Very weird book. Not sure I should've started out 2013 with that one!

Good luck everyone! Read, Read, Read! :D

message 60: by Tea (new)

Tea (prettylives) | 17 comments finished my first book The Awakened, it's ok it's the first of four and it left me a little disappointed as everything was left unresolved until books 2,3,4. I'll read a different book before starting book 2. In the morning I'll start reading Mysterious Skin, it's been on my tbr list for 5 years. I'm looking at this challenge as a way to clear my tbr list.

That's what I was planning on but all the library books I put on hold back in November are coming in non-stop!

message 62: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments It looks like a handful of us like the name Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books. Last call for other names. If no one else makes a suggestion, I am thinking that by Friday, we submit this name to the Moderators.

Next step is to pick a Team Captain. I don't mind accepting this responsiblity but I would really like to either be able to rotate or at least have a back up person as I do travel a bit with my job and sometimes only have access on my phone which is limited. Again, thoughts?

message 63: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I could be your back up, Rebecca. I'm usually only around on the weekends though. I'm a teacher so my week days are extremely busy and are never empty. I'm lucky if I even get to sit down and check my personal email during the week. :)

If anyone else would be able to check in more often or would like the role, please speak up.

message 64: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I also like Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books.

Just finished my first book, didn't think I would make it to day but with a over 4 hour delay in the airport I had plenty of time to read.

message 65: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments I'm all for the name and I could back you up, Rebecca. I'm usually on the computer during the day as I am home at the moment. I have no idea what that entails, as I haven't done this team challenge before. But I have done other team challenges. If anyone else wants to help out, I'm fine with that as well. Whatever will help the team.

Please watch your book pages. Some books are being posted that are less than 170 pages. Private Messages are being sent out asking members to “untag” them from challenge their bookshelves. Thank you!

P.S. I'm a GRs Librarian. I can change a page count, if you can refer me to an alternative edition, and need this done. (I'm only checking other editions on GRs.)

Ooops!

message 67: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I like the name too!

I can be a backup - maybe we can rotate duties so that one person doesn't end up doing much? Or split the duties among the volunteers (ex: one person check the page count) one person co-ordinating everything. That would make things easier on everyone. That's just my suggestion.

LK (if that is you in disguise): That image is totally over my head. I don't get it :(

message 68: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yes, Vi! **waves** It is I.

Target , which is a superstore, has all their employees wear red polo shirts to differentiate them to the public.

I never go to Target, but I recently went with my BFF and worn one. O.M.G. Everyone stopped me and asked where things were. Honestly, I didn't understand why, until the second person did so. A little dense sometimes, right? LOL!

I loved the photo! That happened to my husband who even had tan pants on at the time and we are frequent shoppers of target. It has happened a few more times since. Now we make sure he's not wearing red when we go there :)

message 70: by Michelle (last edited Jan 02, 2013 06:21PM) (new)

Michelle Hello all! I need to finish two books before I can start in here. I read around twenty pages or so of The Deepest Cut so that will be my first book to contribute! Then I'm going to rotate between these I think

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien

Also, I have a question. Is it okay if we put books we are going to read for this challenge on the shelf we made for the group or will that mess something up?

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen just now which is my first book. Starting my second book The First Princess of Wales by Karen Harper

That's even worse, Rebecca! LMBO! I was wearing black jeans (thought the red/black looked good together). Didn't make a difference. That's why I laughed when I saw the "yourecards." LOL!

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Michelle wrote: "Also, I have a question. Is it okay if we put books we are going to read for this challenge on the shelf we made for the group or will that mess something up? "

Michelle, although I haven't done it, I do believe you can add them to your shelf. They will only be counted once you've marked them as "read".

message 74: by Donna (new)

Donna Wolczyk | 75 comments Can someone answer a question for me. My first book is Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin. I read mostly on my Kobo ereader. When I look up the number of pages (to make sure it qualifies), if the GR's paperback or kindle page number is >170 can I go by those numbers? Mine shows 285 pages, but the Kindle shows more and the paperback even more. I'm not sure if this is a problem. Usually all my books are well over >170 on my Kobo, I just want to make sure. Thanks.

Donna, assuming that it isn't an "abridged" version (I have run across one or two), since there are print editions that are over 170 pages, the book would be accepted.

message 76: by Donna (new)

Donna Wolczyk | 75 comments Thanks Rebecca, that's what I figured, but since I could not find a page total on GR for the Kobo I just wanted to make sure. I don't think I have ever bought or read an abridged version, but I will always double check.

Michelle, Rebecca is correct! You may do this.

message 79: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I'm fine with multiple people sharing captain duties. What are soke things we think should be kept track of and Who would like to be in charge of what?

Track:
Book counts
Page counts
Participants on the right team
Weekly, or twice weekly status checks

Anything I'm missing?

Added to Post #1...

REMINDERS
◈ Books must be over 170 pages in length for this challenge. We will be
monitoring this closely. Also, no graphic novels, manga, or children's picture books.
◈ Your book must have a start and stop reading date. Some of you may not be used
to doing this. These dates can be edited in the review screen of each book. Or, if you
update the current book you are reading from your update screen (upper right),
it will do the dates automatically.
◈ Remember to tag every book you read to your special bookshelf or
Team D won't get credit for it!

Rachel, I only need to hear from the Captains once every other week. However, if you want to check in more often, that is fine with me.

On second thought, the more this challenge grows...the more likely we are to reach 2,013 fast. Hmmm...

message 83: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Rachel, I think you got everything.

I have already started tracking book counts and page counts which also involves making sure people are on the right team. I know who still hasn't signed up on the home page. This could be shared through google docs once I determine what the right set up is.

I know from "lurking" at our rival teams they are tracking what everyone is doing which would be something I think we should have an idea as well and that is something that we could have someone do. A little weekly motivational :)

There is also having someone answer questions. I have been on Goodreads a little more the last day or two but I usually only check in once or twice a day.

I think there should be someone checking to make sure that everyone is tagging their books or seeing if someone is falling "behind."

And finally, updating Lisa Kay with an "we're doing okay" on the Status Updates (Team Captains) page.

If there are two or three people, we can also communicate via the private messaging to make sure we are all on the same page.

Again, if someone wants to be the captain, I'm okay with that. I just didn't want us to get too far behind what the other groups have been doing in the last two days - some of them even have a team banner (not that I haven't been checking!) ;)

message 84: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I can do a weekly motivational, including a "who's reading what" section for those who would like to share their anticipated reads for the week and their "good" reads for the week prior. I would probably do these on a Saturday or Sunday, as a post here in this thread.

I can also help with questions asked and check in once a day. Probably in the evenings.

@Rebecca- If you can get the Google doc up, I've never used it, then I could help with that after the initial set up.
We could alternate these tasks each week if you want, or we could keep the same ones the whole time. You can PM me if you want or keep talking here. Your call. :)

Please let Rebecca and I know if you would like to help with captain duties. After 10PM on Friday we will divide the tasks officially and begin!<\b>

sorry for being MIA for a couple days, I've been under the weather with a Cold...yuck! but I'm ok with whoever wants to be captain/s and Whatever group name you pick is fine with me also.

message 86: by Vi (last edited Jan 03, 2013 06:58AM) (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Sounds good Rachel & Rebecca! I can help out with anything like checking in once a day etc. just let me know which ones. I'd volunteer more but my RL is sort of full now and it's cUtting into my reading time. But I'll be glad to help out.

message 87: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Hope you feel better soon, Kat!

I'm also digging Marguerite's suggestion of Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books for the team name.

I know I read a lot of graphic novels and manga so I promise you I will not count that towards our team reading. I don't want to give team captains too much to worry about!

And finally, I'm starting my first book of the year today. Woot woot! These Girls by Sarah Pekkanen Awesome that some of you have already finished yours! We're gonna rock this challenge!

Marguerite, I read First Princess of Wales years ago and loved it. I'm a huge historical fiction fan! Hope you enjoy.

Hi Kat - glad you are feeling better!

Sounds like the captain duties are being divided up nicely. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I am on GR every day and am not working at the moment, so I'm available if someone points me in the right direction. I'm a great sheep.

By the way, Rebecca & Rachel (Captain & Co-Captain?): I sent Diana a PM asking her NOT to give up (as she expressed in Post #79). I believe all she needs is to put a hyphen between the words of her bookshelf.

message 97: by Lina (new)

Lina Hi Guys! I'm off to a slow start with reading this year. I've only just finished my first for the year, about to start my second, but I have more to start next week, so I'll have to catch up quickly!
