What are you working on?
I'm reading Too Pretty To Die by Susan McBride and I'm cross stitching a snowman sampler for each month of the year. I watched a Nancy Drew Marathon yesterday.
I love Nancy Drew! Sounds fun. I wonder what Nancy would stitch? I know she was knitting a sweater in The Secret of Shadow Ranch....

June snowman has a watering can and flowers,July snowman has a red,white and blue flag and scraf, August has a floppy hat and sunflowers,September has a big pencil, bookbag and apple, October has a witches cape, hat, pumpkin and leaves,November has pilgrim hat, and a turkey around the snowman LOLOL.

Yes it's a fun stitching project but honestly I want this one over with so I can get to my four seasonl cats and quilts by imaginating. There is one for each season.LOLOL I can't think of anything cozier than cats and quilts.Pamela
hmmm.... can you just put the snowmen aside for a while? I've got several projects in progress that I pull out whenever the mood strikes (for cross stitch: mermaid, cat on bookshelf, Eeyore, Christmas cat ornaments, woman in rose garden, and a spring lake/meadow scene, a quilt on a porch scene....)
I probably will as soon as I get the thread in to start this project. Is your cat on bookshelf Fredrick The Literate? If so I have that one too and started it a year ago, I did finish some projects last year. One was a twelve month series of Retro Cats that I made all into one huge sampler. I also have Scarlet Wizard to start this year.

I have 7 cats and tons of books. It is very appropriate. I usually work on him in the fall and winter. It's pretty slow going since i do embroidery, cross stitch, needelpoint, knit, and just learned to crochet!
I am afraid I haven't completely finished very many of the stitching projects (knitting yes, stitching not so much). It is always cause for celebration, particularly with the large projects! The retro cats sampler sounds awesome. So does the Wizard.

Since I write a cross stitch mystery series I also cross stitch. LOL BUT I am branching into women's fiction and writing the first book in this genre. Cross stitch is becoming more enjoyable now because I can enjoy it for just the sake of stitching. I am thinking of one of these day stitching a Paula Vaughan I love her quilt cross stitch patterns.
Paula Vaughan's patterns are beautiful! I believe she is the source of my quilt cross stitch! (you are a little scary guessing the patterns I'm working on!) I'd like to try some of her others as well.

I'm the same way. I love doing things but if there is pressure or I feel like i *have* to do it I sort of avoid it or don't have fun. Stitching is supposed to be fun!

Yes stitching is supposed to be fun. I think writing women's fiction (and in my case will always have a mystery in it) will be great for me to be able to enjoy cross stitch again. My book titles are: THE CROSSED STITCHER by Pamela Sue James: A MURDER MADE IN STITCHES by Pamela James & Merry Stahel, A MURDER MADE IN PIECES ( this one is mostly a quilting mystery in the series) and A MATCH MADE FOR MURDER by Pamela James & Merry Stahel. Merry has went on the pen romances and she is a good author no matter what she writes. LOL
I also must add that I've been stitching since the mid eighties before that I crocheted and did embordery. You sound like a very busy woman and I can't wait to see your completed pieces.
mysteries are always great. I'm going to try to get copies of your books to read. I looked a while back for cross stitch themed mysteries but didn't see yours!! I think it must have been some sort of searching/database error in Amazon.

She got me enthused again. I looked back over my "stash" and "UFOs" the other day and was appalled. I was terrible!! Probably still am, but I'm enjoying myself and getting better all the time (I hope) *LOL*

I don't have anyone to cross stitch with here in Parsons, as they are all quilters. So I enjoy my online groups of readers and stitchers.
I think my problem is that i want to do all the needle crafts!! I'd love to make a hand stitched and embellished crazy quilt! I want to do everything!! I'm thinking that maybe you have to settle on one or two in order to get really good at anything..... It's really fun when you can mix and match. I've seen people crochet afghan squares and cross stitch pictures on them. and of course embroidering on knitting and needle felting and appliqueing them on to projects..... Retirement is ages away (and with my fiber habit probably never!) but I want more stitching time!!!

I can agree and one day I want to make a quilted wall hanging with each square cross stitched but I think that is ages away for me. But I keep having visions of a gingrbread one or a Halloween one. LOL for now I'll stick to cross stitch and maybe a stamped baby blanket for a grandchild here and there.
If you're looking for good cross stitch groups to join I have a few you can join. One is small but good CreativeCrossStitch and it's an online cross stitch group I own. Also there is CrossStitchAddiction and both are yahoo groups.

Right now I'm doing a secret sister four-month coaster swap - I've got one more after this. Next I'm going to work on some towel toppers for our church fair. Sorry to say that I haven't read in over a week and still reading the same book from October. I did promise to read more at night and spend less time on the puter...stupid facebook! lol
I have stopped turning on my computer in the morning at home for this very same reason! Now I spend a quiet hour reading and or doing needlework and drinking coffee before getting ready for work.

LOL I am addicted to the email too and I completely understand, and BTW we have crocheters on CreativeCrossStitch group and knitters. LOL Some day I'll stitch coasters I could use some.
Where do you work Vorlady? I cross stitch in the afternoons and evening, I write at night or read at night.
I should do that - wait to turn on the puter in the morning, but sometimes I need to check in with people about deliveries and stuff. I guess I could just get ready first and then turn it on...that's why I can't get moving in the morning.
I'm a cataloguer at Dartmouth College. We work regular business hours. I'm afraid I'm not a night person which is a bummer.

All my friends are night people which is why being a morning person is a bummer! My cross stitch buddy a few states away is also a morning person so we stitch in the morning before everyone gets up when we visit each other.

I was having trouble getting ready for work in time when I turned on the computer. I'd spend too long, loose track of time. Now I just don't turn it on in the morning. Luckily I don't have to check things like you do Kim! I would be in trouble!

I am stitching Dimensions 'Rocky Point' and reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.
Let's see - I'm knitting a baby afghan for a friend, in sweet baby girl pink (love the color name - "Pink a Boo"). Cross stitch I'm got a bread cover going for my mother - blue and yellow, with gold accents. Needlepoint I am stalled currently; I have to do some yarn matching - a couple of colors in particular are going to be bears, I can feel it. Crewel embroidery: the afghan project from hell. I've been working on it since ... 2005? and it's about half done. It's about 5 feet by 3 feet, and has seashells on it. It sits in the bottom of my knitting bag and sometimes I find the cat taking naps curled up in it.I am finishing up The Vertigo Years Europe 1900-1914; I'm up to 1913 and really enjoying it. Between novels at this point.

I didn't have a chance to stitch much this weekend, but I went shopping on Friday eventing and found a great deal on a Crewel Kit -- Swan Cottage. (I ended up paying around $12 for it (the regular price seems to be close to $40)!). I have been tempted to swear off kits in the past because I have so much trouble sorting the colors of the threads. I didn't have any trouble sorting the thread/yarn in this kit!! I actually had fun and finished in record time! Can't wait to start stitching :-)

I started working on Swan Cottage today! It seems to go well with the Beatrix Potter "cottage" mysteries.
Oh I would love to see a picture of this project. I just watched a movie last week titled Miss. Potter about Beatrix Potter's life. I DVRD it so I can watch it again. I have some cross stitch booklets of some her characters to cross stitch. Right now I'm still stitching the snowman sampler. Pamela

Cute cottage Vorlday, no I hope to get the other supplies in the next couple of weeks. A friend of mine is picking up the floss when she goes to her local LNS. In the meantime I am stitching along on the snowman. I can't wait to see your needlepoint. I would probably get back into to needlpoint of it wasn't so darned expensive. LOLOL

I thought it might be fun to share what projects we are working on and perhaps what we're reading/listening to.
I'm currently knitting the Patchwork Shawl from The Beatrix Potter Knitting Book and reading The Tale of Hill Top Farm by Susan Wittig Albert.
I'm also working on a cross stitch of Eeyore.
