Barb Maybe it's a hint that we should be *reading our books instead of sitting here talking about reading books LOL

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Goodreads had a lot of technical problems today. Their Twitter page is a great place to go when you get that "over capacity" warning or if the page just won't load (that was the issue I had today). They usually try to update the Twitter feed with announcements about the site being down and why it is down if they know the reason and when they expect it might be back up, if they know that, too! Very helpful stuff. https://twitter.com/goodreads

As for the RaT...uhhh I finished a book this morning but I kind of forgot the RaT had started! I worked for a few hours, came home so pooped out and I need to get to bed soon because I go back to work at 4 in the morning, ugh! I'll squeeze in as much reading as I can after work and between spring break chores and things!

It's OK Nancy. You did great on the last RaT. And is not over yet. Besides, it is a all you CAN read. So, you only read what you can, if you can.

And don't forget that your contribution for the team's challenge is way better that what you were expecting, even with school.

The team is doing great. So, we are not leading the scores, so what? We are reading great books, recommend great books, having fun in the process, and having a great team spirit. I think that was the main goal.

I can talk only for myself, but I think the team challenge is already a big success, and I have to thank you all for that.

Post a random Question&Answer about books and answer the ones already posted.

I'll go first.

Sonia's Read-a-Thon random question #1
Q:What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?
A:Not an easy one, since I have more 5 stars books already that I had last year. But I think I'll choose Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs . Patricia Briggs really improved since River Marked IMO, from the changes in the POV, the complexity of the plot and the return of some characters she really capture my attention. Besides, I was super anxious to have another Mercy book, and my expectations where really high because of the events on Fair Game, and was not disappointed.

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Sonia's Read-a-Thon random question #1
Q:What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?
Hands down, my favorite book that I've read in 2013 is Katya's World (Russalka Chronicles, #1) by Jonathan L. Howard . I love YA, but all too often it falls into tropes: love triangles, damsels in distress, and more angst than I really want to handle. Katya's World avoids those pitfalls. I thought it was refreshingly original, there were no sparkly boyfriends, and the heroine kicked more a** than anyone I've read about since Katniss.

My favorite book PUBLISHED in 2013 so far is Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer . Marissa Meyers is really clever in her retelling of classic fairytales in YA format (a cyborg Cinderella starred in her last outing, Cinder). Scarlet cleverly blends the Little Red story in with Cinderella, updating both and keeping me entertained throughout.

My question:
What series makes you wish the author would write faster, just so that you can read the next installment?

My answer:
Easily Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books. They're my favorite. I love the way Harry has evolved throughout the books into a far more complex character. I think Butcher has done an amazing job keeping the story fresh, especially with 14 books in the series now!

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Sonia's Read-a-Thon random question #1
Q: What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?
A: Definitely Blackout by Mira Grant. If you know me, you know I ADORE this series and weep like a little baby when reading it. This last installment was perfect and I was so sad to see the series end.

Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon random question #2
Q: What series makes you wish the author would write faster, just so that you can read the next installment?
A: Oh, definitely the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. The next one is due in July and I can't wait. This series gets better and better!

Mary's Read-a-Thon random question #3
Q: What is your favorite book cover (of books you've read)? What do you like about it?
A: I adore Alan Bradley's covers for his Flavia de Luce series. Extremely bright, all of them, and very simple and elegant. My favorite is probably the first one, but I love them all. Here they are:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag (Flavia de Luce, #2) by Alan Bradley A Red Herring Without Mustard (Flavia de Luce, #3) by Alan Bradley I Am Half Sick Of Shadows (Flavia De Luce, #4) by Alan Bradley Speaking from Among the Bones (Flavia de Luce, #5 ) by Alan Bradley

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon random question #2
Q: What series makes you wish the author would write faster, just so that you can read the next installment?
A: I'm the same as Mary in this one. Either Kate Daniels or Kate Daniels World - Can't wait for both Magic Rises (specially after reading the snippet with the first chapter) and Jim & Dali's book - they are one of my favorite couples, I loved their interaction on the short story Magic Dreams and am waiting for their book since then. 2014 is so so far away!

Mary's Read-a-Thon random question #3
Q:
What is your favorite book cover (of books you've read)? What do you like about it?
A:I fall for the covers of Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor, they are beautiful and can't wait to know the next one, again 2014 is so far away. I also like the covers from the Beautiful series from Jamie McGuire, specially the one from Walking Disaster. I love blue butterflies, I even want to tattoo one for ages, so this two covers ring deep.
Here are the 2 sets:
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2) by Jamie McGuire

Diane L R-A-T Update

Completed Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, 324

Zounds! What a book! I'm sitting here blown away instead of starting the next one.

Books read: 4
Pages read: 1202
Pages to go: 798

Sonia's Read-a-Thon Question #1
Q:
What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?
A: Until today I would have said Angel's Rest by Charles Davis. Now it has to be Ender's Game. Have you seen the saying that's been floating around on Facebook? "That moment when you finish a book, look around, and realize that everyone is just carrying on with their lives...as though you didn't just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a paperback." I just sat there looking at the cover of the book and literally saying, "Wow." Over and over. Amazing ending to an emotionally wrenching book. I almost never run right out to get the next in a series, but I'll be heading for the library this afternoon.

Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon Question #2
Q:
What series makes you wish the author would write faster?
A: I have so much on the TBR I don't tend to check new releases. Maybe volume 3 of the Divergent books by Veronica Roth.

Mary's Read-a-Thon Question #3
Q: What is your favorite book cover of books you've read? What did you like about it?
The Journey of Crazy Horse A Lakota History by Joseph M. Marshall III The Journey of Crazy Horse: A Lakota History by Joseph M. Marshall III. Bittersweet book about the iconic Crazy Horse who gave everything for his people. The empty leather shirt was very poignant after I finished the book. So many of the things he fought for are empty now too - the teepees, the traditional Lakota lifestyle, he didn't even leave behind a likeness of himself.

My question: Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?

My answer: Tough choice between my mother and my daughter-in-law but I'm going with Mom. She has given me a list of a dozen of her favorites to read this year and so far I've had three 5* books out of 5 completed.

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Mary's Read-a-Thon Question
Q: What is your favorite book cover?

A: I love how atmospheric Guy Gavriel Kay's latest covers have been. They really seem to match the Chinese inspired epics that he's been publishing: River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay

Evana's Read-a-Thon Question
Q: Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you'll like it?

A: It really depends on the genre, but honestly, my high school ex-boyfriend always gives me the best recommendations (such a weird answer to give)! I'm glad we stayed friends because I would have missed out on tons of great books otherwise! My husband benefits too, because he usually likes the books as well.

Sonia's Read-a-thon Random Question #1:
Q: What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?
Ans: Oh! I'm so torn! But I'm going to have to say A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin The characters are just so well written, and the writing was so good, and it honestly seemed real half the time.

Ashley Marie's Read-a-thon Random Question #2:
Q: What series makes you wish the author would write faster, just so that you can read the next installment?
Ans: Well, because I'm not all caught up, I can't say A Song of Ice and Fire. So, I'm going to have to go with The Mortal Instruments, the next book won't be out until, what? 2014!?

Mary's Read-a-thon Random Question #3:
Q: What is your favorite book cover (of books you've read)? What do you like about it?
Ans: Despite not liking the book much, I really liked the Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr not really sure why, it's just really pretty.

Evana's Read-a-thon Random Question #4:
Q: Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?
Ans: Well, none of my friends read, but most everyone in my family reads. We often talk about shows and things at family dinners, so that's where some of them come from. Also, one of my favourite series The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan was recommended to me by my grade six teacher (and he forever remains one of my favourite teachers because of it).

My Question
(Running with my Game of Thrones obsession)Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?
Ans: My answer is, of course, A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Evana's Read-a-Thon Question
Q: Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you'll like it?
A: I'd say Dad, who first introduced me to the world of fantasy in fiction. He usually knows if I'll like a book, and then will hound me for weeks/months to make sure I follow through and read it. He reads just as fast as I do, only he doesn't have BOMs and buddy-reads and new releases, so he doesn't understand when his recommendations fall to the bottom of the pile sometimes, heh. His latest recommendation is Fablehaven, and he said that if I read it, he would read anything I wanted him to ("Anything!").

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments TheButterflyEffect's Read-a-Thon Question
Q: Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?
A: Browsing my "read" shelf, none of the books I've read this year have been adapted yet into TV shows or films, but The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is being made into a movie this year or next, starring Kate Winslet, I believe, and I really enjoyed it! I think she'd make a great Juliet (main character), too.

Hah, I'm that person for most people I know. That question was hard to answer because usually people don't recommend books to me. It's usually the other way around...

Barb Sonia's Read-a-Thon Question #1
Q: What is the best book of 2013 so far and why?

The best book (so far) that I've read in 2013 is Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. I was soo disappointed that it didn't win the Newbery :( Best book *published in 2013 would probably be one I just finished, A Dying Fall, #5 in a series by Elly Griffiths.

Ashley Marie's Read-a-Thon Question #2
Q: What series makes you wish the author would write faster?

All of them? LOL If I had to choose just one, it would probably be the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry ... or maybe the John Puller series by David Baldacci :)

Mary's Read-a-Thon Question #3
Q: What is your favorite book cover of books you've read? What did you like about it?

I'm such a sucker for bold graphics on covers, like
The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry and The Wave In Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean by Susan Casey

Evana's Read-a-Thon Question #4: Who in your friends and family knows you so well that when they recommend a book, you know you will like it?
One of my co-workers and I read -- and like -- a lot of the same books, and one of our library patrons is usually really good with her recommendations too :)

TheButterflyEffect's Read-a-Thon Question #5
Q: Do you have a favourite book that you've read this year, which has been adapted into either a movie or a television show?

Nope, although I'm looking forward to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society too :)

Barb's Read-a-Thon Question #6:
