Fran I think they haven't updated list...even though it has a link for 2013 authors but its actually 2012 authors attending list.

message 152: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I tried both firefox and Internet Explorer and had no problems opening up the file. Stupid question, but are you updated on everything needed to open the file....

message 153: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12285 comments I've never had trouble opening it before. I have IE and it's a current version but my computer does sometimes give me trouble.

Hina,

Do you think that list of authors is actually the 2013 list even though it says 2012? It's on the 2013 home page so I was wondering if they just mislabeled it.

I actually don't think so, it varies a lot from the pdf file they had, some of the authors are not on that list, as the ones that show up on the pdf.

OK, thanks Hina, I didn't realize that. I can't seem to find the pdf on their site. How did you find it?

Oh Dee forwarded me the link for that...I think it was originally showed up on the RT Book reviews site.

message 157: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments That link works but it's to the 2012 list.

message 158: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12285 comments The link Hina has posted works on my iPad but not my computer. I have had issues in the past where certain sites say my computer has an older version of IE, even though it doesn't. Must be my computer that's having a problem.

Mary, can you switch to another browser and give Hina's link a try?

message 159: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Like I said, it doesn't work for me on any browser on 2 different computers.

This is a copy of the link, does this work Mary?

message 162: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Yes. I'm at home now but before it didn't work at home either.

message 163: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) I'd love to go this year. I've heard it's fabulous for authors as well as readers. I'm in for the challenge. Starting a shelf on my page but I doubt if I'll get past level 2.

message 164: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) Fran wrote: "I noticed the difficulty with the number of male authors signed up for the convention. We will discuss the issue and see if we can modify that requirement in some way. ..."
There should be more signing up as you get closer to the date, don't you think?

There should be some more Andrea, but we've changed the rule slightly to make it a little easier. You can use either a male author, an author with a 'male' sounding name, and/or an author who uses their initials as their first name :)

Welcome to the challenge!

message 166: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) Super. That was a good idea.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Attention All:

So I know we have been having issues with the pdf and there has been questions regarding the website and if they are 2012 or 2013 authors attending. So I emailed someone at the RT Convention regarding the problem and they were nice enough to look into it and fix it. So if you go to:

http://www.rtconvention.com/2013-auth...

These authors are now the ones attending the 2013 RT Convention, apparently there was a typo regarding 2012.

Thanks!

P.S. I have also updated message 1 as well in both posts with the link so look for updated author's list. If you have any questions, please let me know.

No Problem, it was beginning to bother me but I just didn't have time to find out but I am trying to become better organized, and look it pays off. :)

message 170: by Mary X (last edited Feb 12, 2013 08:13AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Oh yay so Maya Banks is going. I had removed her from my author's list because that said 2012. I think that means I'm done with level 1 because I read one of her books already.

message 171: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments OK I think I messed up. I have a Samantha James book on my level 1 and I don't see her on either list now. I know I always double check. I thought maybe she had another name she used and now I can't find one.

message 172: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I don't have her on the list I have printed out Mary - I have Babette James, Cynthia James and Elle James

message 173: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Yeah I guess I mixed her up with someone else. OH well. I'll just remove her.

message 174: by Mary X (last edited Feb 16, 2013 07:42AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments A Lonely Resurrection (John Rain, #2) by Barry Eisler

This is a freebie today.

This one too:

Inside Out (Ben Treven, #2) by Barry Eisler

message 175: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments Jim Butcher was on the original list but I don't see him on the new one. ok or no?

message 176: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I hope so because I planned to use him and he's still on the list of authors on the first link. It says he's just doing the book fair so maybe that's why he's not also on the 2nd list that's linked? His wife is one of the attending authors.

message 177: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments This is turning into quite a challenge. I found a few more authors in the same situation as Jim so I hope it's ok as well lol

Already read it I enjoyed the first dresdin file book

message 178: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Mary, I will post something up soon regarding the difference in the list soon.

message 179: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments Hina I just wanted you to know that I appreciate all you're doing for this challenge. No matter which way you call it ;)

message 180: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Thanks Mary!

So here is the mods decision, if they were at one point on the list, its good to use. Just provide a date context when you looked at the list.

message 181: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Another RT author freebie on kindle today:

The Hunter (The Legend Chronicles, #1) by Theresa Meyers

message 182: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Hmm. I had JR Ward on my list and now I see she's not on there either. So either people pulled out or I was on something when I saw their names before. Oh well have't read any of hers for it yet but I had planned to.

message 183: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Mary wrote: "Hmm. I had JR Ward on my list and now I see she's not on there either. So either people pulled out or I was on something when I saw their names before. Oh well have't read any of hers for it yet ..."

Mary, I don't think J.R. Ward was on the RT List to attend to my knowledge. I have checked the new list and the old pdf and believe me if I had seen her name on the list, it would be one of the authors I read.

message 184: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Maybe Samantha James and JR Ward were 2012 authors before it got updated. Or I was having blonde moments when I saw their names.

(and I'm blonde so I can say that :=))

message 185: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments LOL Mary!!! Most of us are in so many challenges, that I am not surprised when we get confused. I don't know how many times I have had to go back and read the same instructions over and over again because i mix them up. Which one has a page limit, what I can or cannot read for this one. I am constantly on those pages to make sure.

message 186: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Out of Sight Out of Mind by Evonne Wareham. RT author freebie today.

Also works for OO for anyone oding the double decker bus challenge.

Thanks so much for the freebies you've been alerting us to. They're going to be a huge help to me!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments No problem. I scan the top 100 freebie list on Amazon everyday anyway. I printed out the author list to make notes on it so it's easy to look them up.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Another freebie from Amazon:

and Promise (Soul Savers, #1) by Kristie Cook

bamaace83 | 1262 comments Thanks so much for posting the free books from Amazon. I'm just starting this challenge and I have a couple months to catch up and this makes it so much easier. Thanks!

message 192: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments There's a freebie today by a T.L. McCallan and I though hey maybe that's a pseudonym of Trish McCallan. But I couldn't find a picture of Trish McCallan and their bios are too different. So I guess not.

message 193: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments This one seems to come on an off the freebie list:

Warrior's Bride (The Stones of Destiny, #2) by Gerri Russell

message 194: by Mary X (last edited Mar 12, 2013 03:08PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I just realized that I used to know one of the authors on the updated list. Geri Krotow. Her husband was the XO (and then the CO) of one of my ex-husbands squandrons when we were stationed on Whidbey Island. I didn't know her well. I just saw the name on there and thought it was familiar, really thinking that I must have read one of her books. But she's only written 4 little category romances and I haven't read any. Then I recognized her picture.

I might get this one, because it's set in Whidbey Island, WA and I lived there for 9 years: Navy Rules by Geri Krotow

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments Help! Having trouble (major) finding anything set in New Hampshire and Vermont it's making me go sillier than I normally am

message 197: by Fran, Moderator (last edited Mar 18, 2013 07:49AM) (new)

Fran | 12285 comments Hi Mary,

*Edit- I am wrong and all authors need to be from the list...that's a hard level!*

I'm not sure, but for the 50 states level, it doesn't look like you need to choose from the authors attending list.

Am I wrong about this? If you don't need to choose from the attending author list, which it doesn't state in the requirements for that level, then I have a few recommendations for you.

message 198: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I think you do have to choose from the author's list. It's the whole purpose of the challenge to read based on who is attending.

I think I found 1 for each of those states. Let me go check my list.

message 199: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments OK I have for New Hampshire a book that was a freebie at one time: Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey

and for Vermont: Fool for Love (Cupcake Lovers, #1) by Beth Ciotta

The only states that I don't have an RT author for are Deleware and Rhode Island.

message 200: by Hina (last edited Mar 18, 2013 07:16AM) (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Yes Mary the author has to be off that list...but the book necessarily don't have to be the setting in that state. The author could be from that state as well to count toward it. I hope that helps, but I haven't started planning level 4 so I can't quickly think of anything and also you can move an author from the prior levels if they meet the requirement and you can read something for the level you moved the original book out of.

***Read your way around the US States by reading a book that is set in, or by an author from each of the 50 states.
