I loved this book, Vi! I remember crying on the bus ;p

Vi I was close. Have you read the rest of the series, Tien? How's it?

I've read up to #6 but then it kinda fell on the side as it happens if you have to wait for the next installment but I fully intend to, one day, read the next few. I like them all though the first is stil the best, I think.

Although, I lent it to a friend who loves that era and she's not fond of it as some things aren't quite right (can't remember which she said didn't fit in the era though) :(

T in title, Trans-sister Radio. A terrific book! And there are lots of unused shelves it's on, too, if anyone else is interested in reading it now.

message 61: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I gave up on the Maisie Dobbs series when I read the second book and she started getting clues out the ether - literally reading feelings in the air and nonsense like that. I don't mind the paranormal (obviously I read enough of that) but I don't like it when an otherwise normal book starts getting weird without explanation.

message 62: by Tien (new)

@Dee: Thanks!! Maybe that'll get my butt moving in reading the rest of the series!

@D.G.: I'm a litte fuzzy on the details -I just can't remember anymore. That was a long time ago for me :(

I didn't get that feeling - rather that she was just very good at reading people and seeing stuff that a normal personal wouldn't (kind of like the guy in the Mentalist - where those little signs add up to something)

And all the ratings have been 4+

message 71: by Vi (new)

Vi LOL, Tien! There's a team challenge going on at Romance Lovers for the Challenge Impaired Group. This book fit in very well for this week. All three of us are playing that game.

I mean words like "mon" instead of man , "woo-mon" instead of woman , ah instead of I , etc etc , you get the drift??
That is the only bugging part !

Yup ! Its a great group , you should definitely check it out .

It's the phonetic spelling to highlight different accents. You know, the way Herself does it in Outlander with the Scots.

In book 2, she goes to an empty room and starts getting feeling out of the air and she gets an impression of somebody and even a conversation, based on some little fabric that she touches. Not looking at furniture and reading what kind of person would live there based on that, but literally reading something out the air. I remember distinctly because I was WTH.

message 81: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments oh, I remember that scene - it was one of the women who died...I thought there were some hints that she discovered - I did the audiobook though, so I just took it as was and called it intuition - but you can tell stuff based on types of fabric (expensive/cheap/worn/new), how they handle books etc

Oooh - I'm not sure if I like phonetic spellings!

I'm having all sorts of trouble with the Aussie phonetics! I've been picking up a few Aussie classics and boy, I get it but it's hard to read quickly since I'm not used to it ;p

I may have interpreted it wrong but as I remembered it, she took a miniscule piece of fabric (like lint or something like that) and then a conversation came to her from the piece of lint. An actual conversation which she didn't have any way of knowing. That's when I decided it wasn't for me.

D.G. | 1370 comments Doing expert reconnaissance to determine the weakest spot in this tower...book has the name "Madison" in title so it could be a good choice. But ah! fellow soldier Vi has already taken care of that!

*More reconnaissance on hands and knees to discover the weakest spot*

Ok, I see now "N" in Title is available...but I'm a little weary as that's the only spot in that section not claimed by a fellow soldier...I sense a trap!

*More reconnaissance on hands and knees...this is getting hard!

AHA!!! Now I've discovered the perfect target, nestled in an unclaimed section of the tower!

Last Name "O": No One But Madison by Doreen Orsini - 1/17 ★

(Finished it just because I could use it here.)

Hopefully my knees are not too weak from all the sliding about and I can run fast!

D.G. | 1370 comments Tien - Question about the letter U in last names.

That's not a problem for first names and titles but it's VERY difficult for last names (funny thing, my Mom's last name happens to start with a "U" but it's very rare.)

Can we invoke the "hard letters" clause for U last names?

If you are OK with it, I'll reserve it in the planning thread. I've already read 'I' and 'O' so now I want to do 'U' to have IOU, LOL!

message 95: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments I have a couple of U's on my TBR so that I can fill for last name
