Another book from the shelf:The Ugly Duchess - shelf + author. Not sure if it'll count for plot or cover. It is a friends-to-lovers book so maybe for plot.
No bonus word for any :(
Alright ladies I have a ton of laundry to do today so I'll check back in later to see what's happening. :)
I'm not crazy on the plot. I am looking at
. Mr. Elf said ok for depiction of seasons. I think the cover shows spring.. am I right? If that works, along with the plot then I'll get 11 for this one.I think I'll hit the bed. I'll finalize and start my book tomorrow.
I hope Judy checks in soon.
No problem, Judy! I can't check since it's Friday evening here and I usually go out. I thought if you had any questions, one of us would probably be able to help you out :)I think that will count for plot. Unfortunately, it's is not in the friends-to-lovers shelf. Drat! I checked the cover too but it doesn't seem to work. Anyway, possible 10 points is great for this week's song!
Judy wrote: "Mr. Elf said no to my initial plot questions, but I think there will be some sort of "friend" aspect in the story. I'm going to go with it anyway b/c I already have it and I'll get at least 6 points."Miss Judy, just read the synopsis. "When Viscount Desford encounters a lovely waif searching for her grandfather, he feels honor bound to assist her;" counts towards plot points.
So I've been lucky this week and probably read Lay Down My Sword And Shield. I'll get:Setting (1971) - 6
Name (Author Name) - 5
Plot (MC helping out another war vet) - 3
to a total of 14. That seems HUGE!
Carrie - based on Mr.Elf's cheat sheet:Setting - Any book written in 1971 or set mainly outdoors eg Road trips, Western/Frontier, lakeside cottage, cabin in the woods etc.
If the book fits, then maybe we can get additional points for that. Either way, the book choices so far are great. I'll put up the master post tomorrow.
Have a great day, folks!
I think I might be able to get points for setting, the kids go on a journey, so I guess that could be road trip? "Her friends brave a journey to Death Valley, CA" from description.

Yes, Miss Carrie,
works for setting. Road Trip and mainly outdoors.
Vi, you update us individually now right? On the Hey Mr DJ, thread rather then wait for the whole team to be done? Or did I read that wrong in the Something to talk about thread.
Carrie, it's still a team update for the captain, but the mods wont update the spreadsheet until the whole team is finished.
Ah okay, I knew I wasn't understanding it right, I was rather confused as to why it would suddenly change to individuals getting updates instead of teams.
It's a fast read, I'm like 68% done with it. It's alright, one I had wanted to read but I wouldn't say it's the best read of the year. Kinda odd and has gotten stranger as it goes on, lol.

Review: So this wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it wasn't the worst. The story is interesting, and as it went on it got stranger and stranger. The ending kind of just happened, like when I got to the epilogue, I kinda stopped for a moment and went 'what I'm at the end?' The writing could have been better, and as I say this I know you're all thing, "wait, what? That's by James Patterson, he's penned many a book". I know this is a young adult book, but I think (don't throw tomatoes at me) he was under estimating the target audience. Which is really my only beef with the book, the story it's self was really interesting just how it was written got to me.

Week 3 - ♬ You've Got a Friend by James Taylor (1971)Book:
The Angel Experiment by James PattersonFinished: Jan 19th

Review: It's been a number of years since I've read a book by Patterson. I've enjoyed many of them. I remember a number of years back reading When the Wind Blows. Which is similar to this book. It seems to have been the inspiration for this book but doesn't closely follow that one. Some of the characters are similiar.
As always with Paterson the chapters were short making it a fast read. However it was not his normal style of writing at all. I know that this being YA he would have to change his style it just didn't seem like him at all. In fact I remember hearing the rumors that there was a ghost writer doing his YA books.
It was ok. It had enough going on that you kept reading. I did like how loyal Max was to her "siblings". She would do anything for them.
Individual Points: (points copy and pasted from Carrie's review...thanks Carrie)

Thanks Carrie for finding a fast reading book! If I had gone with my original it wouldn't have been as many points and I'd still be reading it. I'm so slow at reading I was surprised that after only a couple of hours of reading I was done with it.
I was rather surprised when I was reading it to see how quick it was, especially for the amount of pages. What are his adult books like Melissa?
They are not bad. They are short chapter quick reads. I've only read 3 or 4 of them. They make for great movies so that is why so many of them have been turned into movies. I won't say it is great literature but it is kind of a guilty pleasure
Oh you guys are good! I haven't started my book yet. Time just seemed to fly by today. I'll get to it tomorrow.Has Karen checked in yet?
Hey Karen, this week song was tough. I checked the books page count in amazon and it comes to 122 pages which will not meet the min req, if I remember right, 150. I think you might need to choose another book. I finally finished my epic book
After so many unwanted interruptions. It was awesome!!! I'll start on my book first thing tmrw mrng.
Darn it! The Violet team is done. I thought we could finish first so that we can suggest songs. Dang. Oh well. I'm putting up this week's book choices. Let me know if I've made a mistake.

4 out of 5 with the same book??? That's just crazy!
I actually started the James Lee Burke book but it didn't hold my interest. So I thought I'll go with Patterson since I've wanted to read him anyways given the mixed opinions about his works.
I liked that part. Erikson respects his readers :) I'm trying not to get attached to the characters after the first book. *sniff* I've tried reading the first book in iPad because I can view *color* maps but I tend to get distracted by the net access.Midu wrote: "hehehe i knew it!! and didn't you just love the complexity? that's what puts off most people but I love that about the series!"

Now, I'll probably raid my uncle's bookshelf (I'm at his place now) and see if I can fit anything. He might have books from 1971.
