Sandra | 56 comments If I had some hot sexy young and hung trying to get in my pants... I am pretty sure my image problems would have me disappearing off the grid. I greatly admire the heroines ability to stick around and open themselves up to that. I get all flustered if a male, not my hubby, flirts with me. My romance novel would be a lot of me ducking calls, emails and then kicking myself and feeling guilty for the whole thing.

Seriously, I wish I were as cool as some of these heroines. Half of the time I don't even understand if someone is flirting. If I did, then I would bail... DORK.

Sandra | 56 comments Do you ever think back to your teens/early twenties and suddenly figure out, oh spit! I guess when that cute guy was offering to study with me ( give me all the answers to the assignment) and I blew him off cause I was 1) in a hurry 2) didn't like/care about the class or grade or 3) was clueless; that he might have actually liked me. Lol. Same with the guy I never called back after getting wasted in front of him, and the one that use to call me randomly. Lol. Good thing my hubby was persistent enough to chase me a few months.

message 54: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo OMG, I was telling my sister the same thing. That looking back, I could have been with a certain so-in-so if I had been clued in, but sadly, no, I was oblivious. Yes, thank GOD for my husband who came along at a time when a friend who knew us both was persistent and didn't let either of us let our shy sides keep us from getting to know one and other. I was just thinking though, that there was enough teasing about my weight through school that I genuinely would have thought that any flirting from a hottie would have been a mean-spirited joke. So, really, even if I fantasized about Mr.StudMuffin on the Football team, I couldn't have handled it becoming a reality. Everything happens in its own good time, I suppose.

You too, Shannon? I would've thought it was a joke on myself as well. And like Sandra, I did blow off tons of possible dates for the same reasons. My husband said he flew in under the "friend" radar cause he knew it was the only way he could catch me. He persisted and finally got me too! LOL

That's the way these good hunks gotta work us... lull us into the safety of "friendship", LOL, then strike with the seduction and hope we don't bolt!

message 57: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments The hope we don't bolt thing is exactly what was going on. I think I had one foot out of the moving vehicle for the first 4 months of the relationship. Then for the next 4 years I had a suitcase handy. Once the first kid came I settled in. Lol

message 58: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo That's another way--Tamper with our diaphragms, get that relationship nice and cemented, huh? LOL. That's evil, I shouldn't joke about contraceptive tampering.

message 59: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments Is that your story? Lol. Mine was that I gave him the option of leaving me before we started trying for kids. If he had any thought of leaving me after his life would not be worth living. Now, after two, he can go ahead and leave me if he wants but he is taking the kids with him. Lol. There is no way that he is going to have a cute young bed bunny and no responsibility. If she hooks up with him it will be all school trips, gymnastics practice and the constant fighting that our and everyone's kids do. I will move to a nice condo and take every other weekend to spoil them rotten. Lol

McGee Magoo ROFL! Hell YES! There's no way there's going to be getting out of the hard stuff. No Disney Daddy! My guy didn't tamper with anything, but was pretty smug and proud when, early on, he impregnated me. He jokes that he had to get me trapped before I had time to second-guess. As if.

Somewhere along the way it seems like we lose the idea that our hubby's are still our hottie heroes. I should be reduced to a blubbering idiot (or at least flattered a bit) when my husband gives me a 'look'. I feel like I totally take my husbands sexiness and good qualities for granted. I'm sitting here in my pajamas, teeth aren't brushed, no bra, hair all over the place... do you think I would be doing that in the beginning? Hell no. I would have been up before him, showered, made up and hair straightened. Maybe with a little breakfast and blow job waiting for him. But his heroine is gone. I'm not sure where she went. I suppose before I lament the loss of an exciting romantic life, I need to check my own self and see where I could possibly make things a little spicier.

message 65: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments I am the same but we are conditioned to believe men are easy and that all they need is a smile and a flash of tits to be romanced. My hubby is my man. The fantasy is on hold until the kids are in bed and asleep. As sucky as that is, I can replace the current book hottie with my man anytime I desire. So he gets lucky a lot more than he thinks he does. Lol.

message 66: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo Hmm, maybe I should start a little campaign of seduction --woo my hero.

message 67: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments It's just hard after a long day of temper tantrums to work up the effort and then because I have dealt with shitty stuff all day I start to question wether he wants it or not and being turned down sucks.

message 68: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo I hear that. It's that conversation: "Do you want to do it tonight?" "Do you?" "I dunno, I guess" Two people couldn't be less interested in sex. Maybe I'll just go back to reading about people who want to have sex. :)

I recently read Extreme Love (Love to the Extreme, #1) by Abby Niles . The writer did a major no-no in my book. (First I must say that I ADORED this book!!) She told the heroine's size! I was invested in the story whole-heartedly. Then, wham! She's a size 12. Size 12 in my world is trim. It made me feel so sad. I related to the heroine until that moment and to be honest I loved the story, but had a hard time finishing it.

message 71: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) I believe it's better not to mention the size, then we can all imagine the heroine to be the size we think she is.

Okay, that was as clear as mud! LOL

It is!! I agree!! Just describe her to me and then I can imagine the curves from there. It really took me out of the story when the writer put the number on the page. I'm a size 16. I've been a size 5. So to me 12 is on the skinnier side. I just felt like I couldn't really relate to the heroine as well from then on out.

message 73: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) I also find sometimes that the way I imagine the hero and heroine is different to the way other people picture them! It's always fun to go on youtube and see the footage people have put in on who they think are the perfect people representing the heroes and heroines of books.

LOL Angela, sometimes I'm like "Say What?!" when I see who other people envision for the characters. But I'm not that great at it either. I mentioned to a friend recently that I get hung up on one actor and no matter what the description of the hero is (blond, short, etc), the hero is still that actor--even if it's opposite. Your Ghost was a blond, right? Well, he was Richard Armitage as I read him, lol.

I was okay with the heroine having lost a bunch of weight and being a size 12 with body issues... it's hard to change your image of yourself. It's one thing for the character to feel like a big fatty at 12, but it kinda made me mad that other people that just met her thought it. A friend mentioned this book Picture Perfect (Picturing Perfect #1) by Alessandra Thomas which is another example of a size 12 "fatty". I guess, to be fair, the difference is that instead of the heroine getting to a size 12 through a significant weight loss, this one is there due to a significant and rapid GAIN. I mean, I guess it could be hard to have a lot of "I'm so sexy" feelings when you've just gone up from a size 2.

Size 12, to me, is a skinny girl! Lol.

message 78: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 2 comments I LOVE these books because I can relate. However, I really wish that I could find more books where I could totally relate. The majority of the bbw books have a petite heroine. Me? I'm almost 6 feet.. Where's the heroine who is *truly* big and beautiful that gets the tall, good looking hero?? To me, like many of you, that doesn't mean size 12/14, I was a 14 at 200 lbs and while not thin, I was pretty toned because I did martial arts.

I've read a few books that feature a 5'8"+ heroine, just wish I could find more! I will happily accept recommendations if anyone has any!!! :)

message 79: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments Even in real life this sucks. I am not super tall but at 5'8" I am the same size as a mid-sized normal guy. The ones I liked, 6'2" and up, all seem to be dating women who are 5'3"-5'4". Where as the super short guys were always staring up at me like I was a mountain they want to climb. Lol. I gave up heels when I married my husband who is 1" shorter than me. Lol

YES! You'd think they'd want someone they didn't have to break their neck/back to kiss... My ex-husband was about 2 inches shorter than me, so I'm not against it. It would just be nice for me not to have to hunch to put my head on their shoulder.. hehehe

message 81: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments Hugging is also not the same. There is no way that they can hug you and you feel protected? (Not the right word but I can't think of a better one right now) nothing like snuggling your nose into their shoulder and having them rest their head on yours.

My friend is also almost 6 foot. She refuses to have to look down to get a kiss. She will only date tall men. She said it makes her feel more feminine.

McGee Magoo I just found this on Amazon for free-Slow Burn by Bella Maybin.
http://www.amazon.com/Dominant-Firefi...

Okay, this sounds so good! And it's a BBW I haven't read yet! But look at the page count. 18? seriously? I appreciate anyone who writes a romance or erotic story about a bigger heroine, but why are there so many that are shallow and quick? i don't need Gone with the Wind or anything, but dang. Enough pages to feel connected with more than the hero's phallus would be good.

Tory Richards (toryrichards) I can't believe she gets 2.99 for 18 pages! LOL Check out A Perfect Fit, 84 pages at 1.49...the heroine is a plus-sized model and the hero is an ex-Texas ranger. 4-Stars. Maybe I should raise my prices. Anyone who is interested shoot me an email at tory.richards@yahoo.com and I'll send you a coupon for a free copy! Offer ends 8/31.

message 89: by Tory (new)

Tory Richards (toryrichards) The reason I like reading about curvy girls is because we're real women. We can be hot, and sexy. We have needs and deserve the hunky heroes, too. When I began reading romance, back in the 70's, it seemed like all the heroines were exactly alike. Fragile, dainty, girlie girls who were ready to swoon at the drop of a hat. These days I want sassy heroines who are comfortable in their own skin, and not afraid to go after the hot fire-fighter or cowboy.

A Perfect Fit is book #1 of the Evans brother's trilogy. Fans asked me to write books for his 2 brothers so Surrender to Desire is book #2, and Burning Hunger comes out next month. They're all stand alone romances.

I just found this on the web. I wish I were as sexy and comfortable and as happy as Hilda in my nakedness. She's totally hot.

message 96: by Tory (new)

Tory Richards (toryrichards) I like the dimples above her butt! LOL I've never been comfortable in my own skin, even when I was a small size 8, but I think it had something to do with my mother's hang-ups about the body and sex, and the way she talked about them. Today I'm a bit bigger than a size 8...okay a lot bigger! That's why I refer myself as voluptuous:)

Veronica Hardy (VeronicaHardy) | 2 comments I'm a size 14-16 (mostly 16). I loooove being curvy and I love writing about curvy women. I recently wrote a blog post about why BBW literature is important, and a part of that is inclusiveness. I won't spam the link here, but I am glad to see so many people who feel the same way.

Julie Raust | 8 comments I can definitely relate to most of the posts in this thread and the real life insecurities of a curvy lady.

I enjoy reading about BBW self-confident heroines that attract the eye of the hunky alpha male, although I'll admit good ones are hard to find.

I just released my first book with a curvy heroine (be warned it's a short novella approx 12K words Choosing Chase), but I struggle with providing exact details like size.

I think everyone's idea of curvy is different (as proved in this tread). In addition, clothes sizes differ around the world. Personally I think curvy would be size 16+ (US/CAN -sizes).

Pauline Allan (paulineallan) | 547 comments Mod
I've read books where the plus size heroine's size is stated in a number and the ones where the reader is responsible for determining the size of the heroine by description. I personally like to determine the size of the heroine myself. When designing the main characters, as writers, it's our job to give the reader the framework and the reader to fill in the flesh of the character. At least that's how I write so the reader can personalize in some ways. I don't like when a number is directly thrown at me.
