I know I like to read about curvy heroines because I can relate to them, being a full-figured gal myself. I don't care for the entire book to have that as the focus, but I do enjoy having the heroine go through a transformation from being insecure about her body image to finding peace and a sassy attitude about her sexiness. Does anyone agree with me?

I do, Pauline. All my life, I have struggled with weight issues, even though it's been okay the past few years. I don't think any of us hasn't had an "ugh" moment looking in the mirror. That's just life- we don't always feel pretty. And a plus-size heroine, as secure as she may be in many things, can also feel insecure about her weight too. Not many of us are complete at ease with our appearance. I think it's okay for a woman to become more comfortable with time. And knowing a sexy hero loves your body can help! :)

I agree Rosanna. I know in For the Love of a God, your heroine is curvyish and I loved reading about her and her spunky personality!

Thanks Pauline. My latest heroine in Sunburn is Rubenesque, although the cover doesn't exactly show how bountiful she is. It's a shame the marketing industry still hasn't caught on that bigger girls are sexy too. I loved your heroine from See Me as well. She was totally human and relatable.

LOL- Apollo runs a Mexican resort, hiding away from the prophecies that have always plagued him. He sees visions of people dying. Heroine Patience is a travel blogger who visits resort. He sees visions of her dying...sparks fly...how do they save her?? :)

This is one of my major pet peeves! I've tried to get plus size heroines represented on my cover art. The stock images are hard to find and the market departments seem really reluctant to even TRY to put a big girl on a book cover. Grrr...!

HI Francesca. One of my author buddies managed to get a curvy gal on a cover, but even she didn't appear truly plus sized and the cover had no sex appeal.

It's like they don't think plus-size women are sexy at all or even HAVE sex. Makes me a little nuts. Big women like sex and we have it. And damn...we're good at it. So represent us on covers with books that feature us. Sorry- bit of a rant there. :-)

I agree!! I was so happy when my book cover came out and there wasn't a skinny gal on the cover. Her body was hidden, which was better than a woman who was far from my character's shape. We ARE sexy and we deserve to see ourselves with hot hunks! Maybe if more writers wrote about full-figured gals we could see more of us on the covers.

This is so true. I'm searching every day for new and emotionally charged books that feature a "real life" woman. I'm a full-figured gal and I want to read about others like myself who get the hunky hero. The covers are very deceiving. I believe if more covers reflected bbw women we'd have more women feeling comfortable purchasing those books.

Very interesting list! I'd forgotten about so many of those beautiful women! Thank you!

A full figured woman is everywhere other than cover magazines...this kind of heroin feels real...plus, it's gets on my nerves that most of the writers seem to creature model like heroins which feels wrong...these writers are as naughty as the cover magazines sometimes for promoting perfect females whilst the heroes are scarred and all....mind you like my scarred heroes so don't change that part please...phantasy says, a cyrvy female takes the chink out of these lonely troubled scarred alphas like BDB's Vishous....( fanning my self with weak'n shaky hands)

Rhage is gorgeous! He's soo Hollywood. I really enjoyed Thorment's book too. I'm sooo excited for Quinn's book that I could do a dance right now. I love male/male romance and can't wait to see how Ward is going to pull this off in a mainstream romance. She better not cheat us out of the juicy sex scenes. I'll be really disappointed.

message 33: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) Tell me about it! I'm fair hanging out for Quinn's story. It would be disapppointing if she glossed over the love scenes. Mind you, some of the scenes of the punishments the men did to each other in the camps hundreds of years ago - made my flesh crawl! It was obvious rape of the men was used to show dominance and punishment, so I don't reckon JR will back off the love scenes. Especially as Quinn is such a ...alpha man *drool*

Oh yes! Alpha all the way. I was so heart broken way back when Blay and Qhinn would go to the club and Qhinn would have sex with the women with Blay watching. That was just gut-wrenching. I cried and pleaded for Qhinn to step up and claim Blay. I can't wait to see Blay's name on Qhinn's back!!

I wanted to punch him in the nuggets alright! Lol. John Matthew was always a character dear to my heart and I've heard through the Ward grapevine that he's going to be in the forefront of this next book. I'm looking forward to seeing how that will play out. I don't really care for Xhex, but I tolerated her character for JM's sake. Blay has such a caring and quiet nature. I want to see him claim what is rightfully his. And Layla! Good gracious what in the hell is going to happen to her?!

message 37: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) That's what I love about her books, you never know what to expect. I wasn't into the whole heavy Omega thing it went through at one stage, I got bogged down by it and skipped through a couple of the books, but the last book really came through for me. Yeah, Xhex isn't my top heroine, but then again, just like the Brotherhood men, she has huge issues. She and John just suit each other, and the fact that she was older than John just blew me away.

I did love the bathroom scenes between JM and Xhex in JM's book. It was capital HOT! I agree about the Omega story line. I've skipped plenty of those pages. I get it...the lessers smell like baby powder and want to smash the Brothers. Get over it and move on the good stuff. Lol.

I wish I could say that I do not judge a book by its cover but, I have. In the past I read a book about a BBW and a Doctor. The book was great but the cover ruined it for me. The picture showed the heroine as a bigger girl but so unattractive in the face. I know that is really bad of me but I want to imagine the BBW as an attractive person. I want to see BBW portrayed as beautiful people.

message 40: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) Hi D

sometimes it can be hard to get just the right kind of cover. But that's okay, there are many readers who go by the cover! I've learned to look beyond, as there have been some great stories I'd have missed otherwise. In my mind I try to picture the hero and heroine as how I see them.

Interestingly, if you check out You Tube, readers sometimes post clips of who they think characters of a book or series look like to them. Christine Feehan's Dark series is on there, as well as Sherrilyn Kenyon's and Laurell K Hamilton's. Check them out! Everyone's got different ideas .

When One for the Money by Janet Evanovich was made into a movie, I wasn't keen on the actor who played Ranger, nor Morelli, though I didn't mind the actor who played Morelli in the end! But Ranger? Nah, not how I pictured him!

I also judge a book by it's cover sometimes. I have to admit that I've found some real hidden jems in the sea of bbw romance. For the rubenesque genre I have to overlook the characters on the cover and feel the tone of the piece. Even though the heroine might be a beautiful curvy woman, the woman on the cover might not reflect that so I have to really study the blurbs.

Jennifer | 1 comments I just started reading about BBW leading ladies. It's realistic to me, considering I am one! Who says we can't get the hunk! A lot of men out there like their women with curves!

What I don't like is when the entire book consist of the heroines' insecurities. I understand her size may be an issue for her but when the entire book consists of that, especially when the hero repeatedly tells her how much he loves her curves and thinks she is beautiful.

I agree Jennifer. I like for the woman to have a realistic characterization, but for her to still have a sense of self worth. I like for her to over come some self esteem issues without having it over power the theme of the book.

message 45: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) My first heroine was really self-conscious, and I guess most of them still have that issue, but it can all depend on the way they handle it, too! You need more of a story line than just being self-conscious. After all, we do have lives to live as well!

message 46: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 56 comments I like reading them because I am a bbw and am happily in love. We deserve it. My issue is that a size 14 is skinny in my world but in general romance she is chunky and unattractive. I would give my second born to be a size 14. Lol

message 48: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo I know that a lot of people like to read about a bigger, curvier heroine but complain that too much emphasis is placed on her own insecurities. I guess they are looking for a "usual" romance story but with the heroine being large. To an extent, I can understand, a big girl can have an exciting adventure, too without the image angst.... But, personally, as a BBW, i have so many body hang ups and issues that if i had some hot, young, cut, sexy thing trying to get into my big knickers, I'd have a hard time letting go to enjoy. So, i like the stories about self image problems. It rings true for me.
