Choosing Chase - an Old Enough to Love You Novella
Just when Tess — widowed, pushing forty and carrying a few extra pounds — becomes resigned to her nonexistent sex life, her hunky young landlord makes his interest known. Tess would give anything to take Chase up on his offer for a one-night stand, but she’s afraid of ruining their friendship. She has a choice to make – one mind-blowing night with Chase or a lifetime of wondering ‘what if’.
Chase has wanted Tess for the last two years. Hell, he is head-over-heels in love with her, but he's almost a decade younger and she doesn’t take him seriously. Chase is livid when he assumes someone else has been fulfilling Tess’s needs. He wants her to see him as more than just a friend, even if it means playing down-and-dirty to prove it. But just how far will Chase go to win Tess’s heart forever?
He's a hunky yet misunderstood alpha male hero. She's a beautiful independent but gun-shy heroine. This book contains sexual situations, content and language and is intended for mature readers.
I enjoy life in the suburbs of Toronto. When I'm not reading or writing I'm a full time referee and problem solver for three crazy awesome kids. I love a happily ever after and was lucky enough to find one of my own with my husband/ best friend. My favorite books include, sexy alpha heroes, blue collar men, shifters, wolves, cowboys and lots and lots of sexy dialogue.

4 Stars!! Very spicy, sweet little short! I really enjoyed this believable, friends to lovers, older woman/younger man romance.
The author brings us into the story with the knowledge that there is a solid friendship between Chase and Tess, so the lack of a build-up to a romance is not necessary, we already know where they stand. But both parties feel the need for something more than their flirty friendship. However, where Chase is confident and determined that intimacy is the next step for them, Tess, who is older than Chase, has her doubts, due to her own insecurities and body image. I could definitely see how this would be an issue in an older woman/younger man relationship. Tess also fears if sex enters into the picture, that there is a good chance that she could lose what she has with Chase, and she’s not sure she’s willing to risk that. She’d rather no sex, than no Chase. On the flip-side Chase knows that he can prove to Tess through intimacy that his love and feelings for her are real. He hopes that she will realize that she is more than a passing fancy to him. The author did a good job of conveying this to the reader. Although the sex scenes are quite steamy, the couple connection and loving vibes are not lost in the erotic nature of the book.
It’s a short read, but a complete one, an entertaining steamy read! A big plus, you don’t read their feelings; rather you hear the characters voice through the plentiful dialogue…very nicely done. Also, it’s virtually angst free, other than a slight misunderstanding which is quickly resolved. Lots of sexy fun…including a sizzling scene with the ‘Triple Threat'...WOW! Although there is no epilogue, Tess and Chase's suggested HEA, makes for a satisfying ending. I also have to wonder…Gage and Roxi…will they get a book too? I hope so! I would definitely read their story.

Tess and Chase's story is short and sweet. Those who want a no drama, no angst with HEA ending and hot steamy whammy; it is a good choice for you. :)
TESS She's almost 40 and she never had the chance to feel the love that she should've gotten from her ex-husband. She's strong and determined and she took it upon herself to get the man she loved back.
CHASE Oh... Chase. I hope you had more sexy abs exposure. LOL! He shoud've told her sooner that he liked her more than friends but at least it wasnt that late.
Julie, again, thank you for the opportunity to read your work. It was a pleasure. Hope to read Gage and Roxi's story soon.
This is a wonderful, funny and sexy writing! I really love the book, my only complain is that is too short. The book tells us a story of a mid age woman Tess, and her younger and hot neighbour Chase. After Tess , who is a widow, moved to the next door of Chase, both start secretly like each other, but Tess thinks the difference of age is a real problem....until the day everything between them explodes! And I can' tell you is very HOT.... They assumed their relationship and moved on... I think there is a lot of material to write a longer book.... I hope the next time, because Julie writes very well... Thank you for the copy!
Tess is a thirty-something widow who has been renting an apartment from her sexy twenty-something landlord, Chase, for the past two years. In addition to being self-conscious about the fact that she’s approaching forty, Tess is anxious about her mature, womanly figure. And, Although she’s widowed, Tess had a less-than-loving marriage, and struggles with self-esteem; she doesn’t see herself as sexual or sensual.
Chase is a guy’s guy. He’s sexy, hard-working, and undeniably in love with Tess. As landlord and tenant, he and Tess have built a friendship over the past two years which Chase very much wants to take to the next level. However, in addition to her confidence issues, Tess is afraid that a physical relationship with Chase will compromise their friendship, and she’s just not willing to chance it. Can Chase convince Tess to take a leap of faith?
Author Julie Raust has created a sweet and sexy (dare I say “steamy”) story with likable characters and just enough believability to keep you turning pages. Even though Choosing Chase is a short novella (only about 45 pages), the backstory is cleverly woven into the narrative so that plot is complete I didn’t feel like I missed a thing. Except, I would love to hear more from Chase and Tess!
I received this novella from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I'm not going to rehash the plot or characters. The other reviews and the synopsis do a fine job of that.
I'll state what I liked and did not like. I love the way Julie writes. It flows very nicely and I never had to reread anything because I didn't understand what the heck she meant. Everything was clear as a bell and written wonderfully. The story is GOOD, the sex scenes are hot & the characters are very likable. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the story is too short. I know it's a "novella" but I liked it so much I wanted to know Chase & Tess better!! As well as Julie writes I think she could have written a good 3, 4, or 5 chapters of story that took place before the point where 'Choosing Chase' begins......... and more middle (LOL) DEFINITELY more middle (sex, sex, & more sex woulda been good!!) and then the HEA ending. So the lack of the fifth star is not because I didn't love this novella or Julie's writing, it's because I love this story, loved the way Julie writes and I wanted MORE of Chase and Tess. I'm looking forward to reading more of Julie's work. :)
What's good about it is that the characters are already in an established friendship and secretly in love with each other. ---So, that means that I don't have to swallow that they meet each other and fall madly in love, have a misunderstanding and resolve it in 45 pages. What's also good is that I love when a heroine has body-issues, it's friends-to-lovers, which is usually cute, and the hero is younger than the heroine which is different and causes some second-thoughts for the heroine. The sex scene is pretty smokin' hot.
What's bad about it is that it is a 45 page novella. He loves her, she's insecure, he resolves to finally snag her, they bang, she feels fat, old and unworthy, she finds courage to go for it and--bam--it's over. A lot of times when I read novellas I don't dislike them because the writing is bad or the story stinks, I usually dislike them because of the waste of potential. I just can't be satisfied in 45 pages, I'm sorry.

SUMMARY (50 words or less) I don’t want my review longer than the book, but this one is a feel good short story about finding love with the person standing in front of you. This isn’t a new plot, but it’s told in a unique feel good way. I enjoyed the quick read.

Tess is an almost 40 widow with not the best self image. Living in the second floor of Chases home she has fallen for the younger man, but why would a guy as goregous as him want her? Chase has been in love with Tess for two years, trying to break down her walls so she can see his feeling are real. After and amazing night with the help of a certain toy the two finally come together. But Tesses old insecurities could come between them.
Cute short story, I enjoyed to "cougar" factor and loved Chases willingness to put himself on the line for Tess. Can't wait to read Gages story, the next in this series.
This was a short but sweet novella. I recieved this novella in exchamge for an honest review. Tess is am older woman, who is afraid to be more than friends with a younger man. There is really not any information as to how long they have known each other, just that Chase wants Tessa in the worst way but has a few hang ups.Choosing Chase
I was given this book for an honest review. A sexy, fun, lighthearted read. Chase is great, he's spunky, supportive, sensitive and not afraid to show his affections. Tess is middle aged and lacking confidence from a previous loveless marriage, she doesn't believe shes beautiful or sexy, and doesn't believe that someone should be interested in her. Even though it was short I really enjoyed this short story. My only complaint was I was left wanting more.
This is a story about an almost forty year old widow who falls in love with a younger man. Does he love her? Is she good enough? Can she love again? Can they be happy? Julie does a great job of tying up all these answers in a short but very steamy novella. Looking forward to Roxie and Gage's story.......
This was hottttttt!Find the nearest cold shower hot! I was given this for my honest review and I have to say I'm so glad. The writing style is nice because it is raw and full of description.I would totally recommend reading this one.
This was a short, sweet....and pretty steamy read! Nicely written, excited to read about Gage and Roxi - I can only hope it will be as steamy and engaging as Choosing Chase was. Good Job Julie!
This was a sweet, short and spicy read. "Older" woman and younger man who've been friends for a few years finally admit their true feelings for each other and they lived happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this sweet romance with a little bit of spice. But I am also an advocate for Authors being recognized and paid appropriately for their work. I think this book is worth at least 2.99 and at 1.99 Choosing Chase is a steal.

Originality: ★★★★☆
Julie Raust manages to keep a familiar theme refreshing and engaging while she crafts a tail around a saucy BBW Cougar (I hate that word, but it applies).
Character Development/Plot: ★★★★☆ I like Tess. I want to sympathize with her. I think she is a dynamic person. And I enjoy Chase as a character. He has a lot of complexity, is what I think more readers are looking for in a hero of a story.
There are points where the plot is predictable, but not unrealistic. I think for a short it has a pretty well developed plot but certain points could be a little better illustrated (pastry scene). Overall I give it a good, teetering on great rating.
Appearance and Editing:★★★★★
Book Cover is good, I wish a woman was in it as well, but that is a personal preference rather than a critique.
The Romance/The Sex: ★★★★☆
I felt like the author really got this. She had the right amount of development for the perfect level of romance at just the right times. The steamy parts were... Squee. Just Squee. I felt empowered through Tess. It left me feeling more than satisfied.
(Can I just say that my poor husband has to deal with me reading romances all the time... poor guy ;). )

3.5-4 starts
This was a pretty good story. I liked both Chase and Tess and enjoyed their story. It's the first story I've read by the author and I liked it enough I'd try more of her work in the future.
Tess is a nice woman that hasn't had much luck in love. She's a widow and he late husband and her definitely didn't have a good relationship. This has left her with confidence problems. She's lived in her current apartment for 2 years and her downstairs neighbor and landlord is a younger man named Chase. They're friends and although Tess is attracted to Chase, she does hr best to keep it at friends because she can't see herself as attractive enough to catch Chase's eye for real.
Chase is a good guy. He's been head over heals for Tess for years but never wanted to push her since he values their friendship. However, eventually he's ready to approach her...just hoping she cares about him the way he does about her.
When Chase eventually broaches the subject of them being together Tess doesn't take it well as she fears messing up their friendship (which she's come to rely on). Chase and Tess have a lot to deal with as Chase tries to convince Tess to give him a chance and misunderstandings don't help things along. Chase is very sweet as he does his best to convince Tess he loves her. In the end things work out for a good HEA.
Overall, this was a pretty good story. While I'll admit there were a few minor things that seemed to be missing (i.e I know Tess is older than Chase but I never saw their ages in the story) I thought the story got better as I read and I enjoyed it. I hope there is a book for their friends Roxi and Gage coming up next. :D
I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
this book was hot! at first, when i started reading this book Tess was just like me. i am almost 30 years old and still blush and cannot talk about sex hahaha. But i am in love with erotic books! my husband makes fun of me all the time for it! i make up my own funny words for body parts and he still gets a kick out of it.
Tess is a 40 year old woman who has been thru a lot. She was married and had a horrible relationship with her husband. he was in love with his work and now with her. On their wedding anniversary he complained about the food she made and the outfit that she wore. She realized that the marriage was over. Lucky, her husband died at work of a heart attack. thus, leaving her alone with some self-esteem issues.
Tess moved into an apartment owned by a guy named Chase. he befriended her and they became really good friends. That was until they had a fight. He suggested that they sleep together because that is why she was being a bitch to people. She instead said no and went out and bought herself a sex toy!
Tess decided that she needed chase in her life as a friend so she went over to apologize. little did she know that telling him that she found a way to relief herself without a man's help started a whole new problem.
Tess has to decided if she is going to have a one night stand with chase and get it over with. Or she is going to have to fight her daemons and decide if she is going to fall head over heals in love with chase. will chase agree to this affair or will he not be interested.
this book with leave you wanting more and will have you full of emotions! it was a great quick read.!
This is a short, sweet, sexy and sassy novella that is part of Julie Raust's Old Enough to Love You series.
This book is about Chase and Tess aka Theresa which is what she calls herself when she lectures herself in the mirror. She is a widow who moved into the upper apartment of Chase's house when she moved to their small town after the death of her husband.
The book begins about two years after Tess moves in. She and Chase had hit it off from the start and since then have become best friends to each other, spending time together alone as well as within their group of friends. And, what neither knows is that the other is in love with them.
Finally, one of them takes the step and makes their interest known. What ensues is some very seriously passionate, sexy playing and lovemaking. Did I mention sexy? DAMN for short story this was the perfect length in the smexy department! Of course there was the ensuing "bet" confusion - just to make you laugh - and a little drama on both their parts to show the depth of their feelings.
I enjoyed this book Immensely! I read it the first night I got it TWICE - one right after the other - cause it was so sweet and funny and short. The story was all there - it wasn't too short - but it was short enough that you could treat yourself again without feeling guilty.
According to the info at the back of the book there will be another story - featuring two more "friends" in their group, Gage and Roxie, who also need some help in the long-term relationship department. I am definitely looking forward to that book and anything else that this author writes.

A quick and ultimately sexy story, the conflicts are entirely self-created and often have a feel of being overly important to the character’s personalities. Tess is a widow, having moved into the apartment that Chase owns after her undemonstrative husband died. Feeling unwanted and unattractive, the person she has fantasized about is Chase, the younger landlord.
Chase is attracted to Tess: her body, her personality and her big heart. While the two of them dance about the attraction, Chase’s friend makes a bet with him to ‘make a move and make it last’.
Sexually the story is super steamy with desire and satisfaction taking the lead. When Tess overhears the tail end of a conversation, her worst fears take over and her reaction leads to the two not speaking and lots of heartache.
Tess was beautifully crafted, but I found her annoying with her hesitations, and her low self-esteem. At a point when she should be reveling in the satiation and the sexy man who is perfect for her in every way, she is trolling the internet looking for appropriate acronyms and trying to label their relationship. A relationship, I should mention, that has no need for a label from the younger man.
There was, however, emotion and attraction that was palpable, the sex was steamy, and the set up for the story was a cute one, leaving everyone satisfied in the end. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
I received an eBook from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
No playing around with this one, it was fast and hard!!
Choosing Chase, took me about an hour to read short and quick that was the only thing that it was short and quick. It was non-stop from the very beginning. Five chapters full of extra curriculum adult activities!! Well played and well described.
Chase is sweet and younger than Tess. Tess is so naive even though she is older than Chase. My type of girl, My type of Man!!
After being in a horrible marriage, years of verbal abuse by her so called husband, when all of a sudden she on her own for the first time. Tess was so self conscious after the years of abuse that she didn’t see how beautiful she actually was but Chase saw the real Tess, a beautiful funny woman whom he wanted for himself.
The pace is fast, the short novella flowed great, the action just kept coming and so did Tess!!!. Boom Bam Thank you Ma’am.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
*Book source ~ Many thanks to the author for providing a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Tess is approaching 40 and feeling very middle-aged even though she is far from that in body or spirit. Her best friend Chase is nearly a decade younger and no matter how hot he is, she is determined she will not be a cougar. Plus, he’s her best friend. If by some chance they do the horizontal polka, she’s likely to lose the best friend she has when they stop sleeping together. Having been burned in the past, she’s too afraid to take that chance. But Chase is made of sterner stuff. He loves Tess and he means to have her for all time. He just needs to convince her he’s in for the long haul.
This is a great story about overcoming fears ingrained from the past and really living life. Even though this is a short story I got a pretty good feel for both Tess and Chase since it was told from both POVs. Well-written and fairly spicy, this is one steamy read. Chase did do something that was pretty dumb (he’s not the only guy to do it and you’d think all guys would learn by now, like that’s ever going to happen) and he’s lucky it didn’t screw everything up for good. Anyway, that’s my only complaint. This one will leave you smiling.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Erotica is not my go to genre. I've read a quite a few of them, but they are not exactly a favourite. The good thing about this novella is that, it has a decent and believeable backstory.
Tess is a widow pushing 40 who is good friends with Chase, who also happens to be the proprietor of the building where she lives. They have been best friends for over years and have a very easy going relationship. But this relationship is strained when Chase offers to sleep with Tess.
What Tess is unaware of is the fact that Chase has been in love with her for the better part of the two years they have know each other. She wants nothing more than to take him up on his offer, but she is scared to lose her best friend.
Since his offer Tess has been avoiding Chase like the plague. But that's so high-school right? So she decides to talk it out with him. What happens next is Tess owning up to something she did, which embarrasses her makes Chase think it's hot. Chase sees a way to make Tess his own and he sure as hell is going to act on it.
A pretty hot sex scene and a believable back story make this book worth a read.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not going to rehash the storyline, it's already been done. The first thing I liked about the story was the characters didn't just meet and fall into insta-lust, they've already known each other, which just makes the story that much more believeable. It's easy to sympathize with Tess, especially considering the description of her marriage (although didn't she have a clue the husband was a d-bag before they married?)
So Tess and Chase finally dance the horizontal tango (who knows, maybe they engaged in a vertical tango as well) and everyone is all happy and full of post-coital glow. Of course there's the big misunderstanding that causes separation between Chase and Tess (kinda hard to maintain since they live on the same property).
Tess finally gets it together allowing a HEA for her and Chase.
Some of you may know that I am the resident single forty-ish odd nerd of the group. Never been married or had children. I see the red flags raising everywhere! Trust me, it isn’t for lack of trying. I honestly don’t know where the last 10 years went and now that I am ready the thought of online or speeding dating feels worse than a swift kick in the teeth! The screening process, the insecurities…the first time someone will see me naked…Ahhhhhhh! I can’t handle it! So I live in denial and hope that one day my Prince Charming will bust my condo door down and proclaim his love for me. Shh…it’s my fantasy and I am sticking with it.
I received a free copy from the author for my honest review, so here it is. This is a great short story. Tess is lonely and Chase lives one floor below her and has loved her almost as long as he has known her. When she finally gives in to Chase's advances she thinks it is only for one night. He wants forever but she can't see how he can want her that way. She is older than him and there are plenty of young beautiful women for him to choose from. Chase only has eyes for Tess. Will there be one night between them or will they get their HEA? Wish this story was longer but I enjoyed it. This is the first for me by Julie Raust but I will be reading more from her.
Julie Raust creates a steamy romance between Tess and Chase in this short novella. Tess is almost 40 and doesn't see herself as desirable because of all the negative things her husband said to her. Chase is a hot younger guy that lives in the apartment below Tess. Tess and Chase become best friends. Chase and Tess both want more but neither of them wants to loose the friendship they have developed. But Chase is a man on mission to get what he wants and he decides to take a risk. This book was hot and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for Julie’s next book to come out.
This is a short and sexy story. I love how persistent Chase is once he figures out Tess is interested. Even though the story is short, I felt for Tess. I understood where she was coming from and why she was hesitant when it came to anything with Chase.
This is definitely an adult book, and damn was it hot and yummy! I liked the author's style and the story flowed super easily for me. I will definitely check out other books from this author.
I suggest adult book lovers check out this fun short story when you are in the mood for a great short & quick read.
*******I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*******
This novella is a solid 3.5 stars. I loved the concept of an older women being seduced by a hot, younger guy. The big sexy time scene is enough to make you read over and over with a glass of wine in your hand. The only thing I can suggest is adding a little bit more substance regarding the background of the two main characters. I loved their dynamic together, and as a reader I felt we all could benefit from learning more about their past relationships, then build us up into the current relationship between Chase and Tess.
