message 3: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments With my new job this fall, I've learned I can't dedicate the same energy to reading as in the past. However, I'm committed to reading more than I should ;-)

message 6: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yeah! I'm glad there will be bunch of us "regular achievers" :-)

message 7: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I'm going to do the low octane one too.

message 8: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I've decided to go my authors' last name. I've already made a list of potential authors based on my existing ebook library. However, I'll probably end up buying one for X. At least I have an author in mind. :-)

message 9: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments First book read! Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Way to go Lara!

message 11: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks Helen and Judy!

Since my life is about the get busy again today, I figured I should get a strong start. :-)

I've also started on my B book, but it is longer than the one I originally planned as I couldn't find my first pick.

message 13: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks Rusalka!

message 14: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Second book completed! Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #1) by Philippa Ballantine

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Wow! You are knocking them off. Two down in two days. :)

message 16: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I'm reading while I can. The semester starts next week and my reading slow down for a while.

message 17: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I expect I'll get a lot read this month as a new release is coming out next week from a K author, and I want to read it for a challenge in another group as well. Sure, I could read a different K book when it comes to it, I signed up for too many challenges this month/quarter/year, so getting as much done now as possible is a good thing.

message 18: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Woo hoo! I'm halfway done!

message 19: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Holy Smoke! Are you sure you didn't want to do the high octane? What are you going to do for 11 months?

message 20: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Alphabets based on author names or book titles are about what I can handle. Also, I'm a member of a bunch of groups, so expect to have plenty of challenges to keep me occupied. Plus, I like the variety.

message 21: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I finished my N book, and started on O. I may get through P and Q this month, as another group is reading a Q author. But, that is a reread, so I may read some books from another challenge instead and wait on the next letter. I haven't decided, but I seem to have a bunch of C and H authors I want to read.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Blimy! That's motoring along at some rate. Are you going for an alphabet a month?!

message 23: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Helen wrote: "Blimy! That's motoring along at some rate. Are you going for an alphabet a month?!"

Very funny! No, I signed up for too many this month and want to get through the year-long ones early. Otherwise, I might forget ;-)

message 24: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Lara!!! What are you? A reading machine? I need help with my TBR, I'm recruiting you right now before someone else snaps you up.

message 25: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Pragya wrote: "Lara!!! What are you? A reading machine? I need help with my TBR, I'm recruiting you right now before someone else snaps you up."

Pragya, I stick my head in a book instead of the sand ;-). What's up with your TBR? Personally, I probably have more books on mine than I will likely read, and there are many I know I want to read (Amazon wish list, already own, etc.) that aren't on my GR list. It can make it hard to plan my challenge reading.

message 26: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments So, I'm debating waiting until Feb to continue. Some of the books I initially identified for the Toppler would fill P, Q and R. However, I'm not sure I can wait ;-)

message 27: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Holy hell! Look at you go! Looks like people should come raid some of these books for the Toppler too. Although I am judging books by their covers. Or more specifically the oiled man's torso on the cover ;)

I've nearly finished an A book...

They do nearly all have romance. I hadn't thought of how well they would fit the Toppler categories though. But, if people are wondering, I could figure it out.

message 29: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Well, I broke down already and started up again.

message 30: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Woo hoo! 8 books to go!

message 31: by Neenee (new)

Neenee WOW!!

message 32: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks Neenee! I've been trying to choose shorter books, so that makes it even easier.

message 33: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Great job, Lara! I am only beginning by C book!

message 34: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks April! And no worries, it's all about enjoying ourselves, isn't it?

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Wow! You're doing great!

message 36: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks Amanda!

message 37: by Neenee (new)

Neenee You don't sleep?

message 38: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Ha ha Neenee! Yes, I sleep, although I have been losing sleep due to reading in bed.

message 39: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Thanks Judy! Of course, I have already started to slow my reading. And some of the books I've read weren't as good as I expected, so I didn't read them as closely and finished faster.

message 40: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Okay, I've started to read Among Others by Jo Walton as my W book. It is also a group read for Feb. I should finish shortly before then. I'm not really sure what it is about yet, but it has gotten some great reviews.

message 41: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yeah, a book I really liked! Among Others by Jo Walton

message 42: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I am in awe of how many books you've read. Did you apply the "How to Win a Toppler" rules to your life??

message 43: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I think there will be a good discussion going for Among Others in Group Reads next month.

message 44: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Jmom, I did decide to read shorter books. And DH is complaining I never talk to him ;-) So, maybe I am :-)

message 45: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Hee hee!

@Janice, I was glad to see that the group is reading Among Others in Feb. I think I may have been the one who first nominated it, too. So, I had to make sure I read it :-)

message 46: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Two more to go! I am looking forward to my next read, by Samantha Young. She's written quite a few and I have the first book in at least 3 of her series.

message 47: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Woo Hoo! Only one left to go!

message 48: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Amazing job, Lara! It's only February and you'll be done.

message 49: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments That would be fabulous. I haven't finalized my final book, but think it will likely be Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Shadow Of The Wind as I already own it.
