Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments Help! I just had a new baby (she's a week old today) and I'm spending a LOT of time sitting in a chair nursing her. Therefore, I need some new series to read. I already read extensively in the PNR/UF/Fantasy genres, so the challenge is finding something EXCELLENT that I haven't yet read.

I'd especially love to find some more of the following:

* Otherworld romance - like Robin D. Owens' Heartmate series or Jayne Ann Krentz's Ghosthunter/Harmony series
* Great romantic fantasy - like Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series or Michelle Sagara's Elantra series
* Fun & sassy PNR - like Shanna Swendson's Katie Chandler series, Michele Bardsley's Broken Heart series, or anything by Shelly Laurenston
* Those UFs where you just LOVE the alpha male - like Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series or Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series.
* Futuristic Romances - like anything by Linnea Sinclair

You get the point. I want to hear about the books you LOVE, not the books you thought were so-so. So, hit me up! What have you got?

Ok Martina--you have GOT to get those Jeaniene Frost's read girl. You are missing a GREAT series, so get them off the TBR pile and get reading.

Also, for the fantasy type books, read any of Andre Norton's Witch World books. There are about 36 of them, but they are in interlocking "series" so you don't have to read them in any specific order--EXCEPT--I would read Witch World first--it kind of sets the premise for what the rest of the series is about. There are 2 books with that particular set of "main characters" then 3 books featuring the h/H's kids, then you get a bunch of books that are set in the world, but not particularily those people. Then, the last book in the series goes back to a bunch of the people from previous books. The Warding of Witch World is that last book.

Also, have you tried Tanya Huff? Not really romance, more UF type books. She writes "straight" UF and then she does UF "lite" as well.

And have you tried the Argeneau series yet? A Quick Bite is the first one. Vampire PNR "lite"

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments Allison, I've read those three. Got any more? Ann, yeah, I like the Frosts okay, but I don't love them. They're also physical books on my shelf which are harder to read when nursing a newborn. That's why I'm looking for a new series for my e-reader - it's easier to use right now. I have read almost every Tanya Huff and the Argeneau books, too, but nit Witch World. I'll give that a look-see.

Anyone else got some top faves?

~Thena~ (athena-nadine) | 63 comments I browsed your shelves to try to not list a bunch of stuff you've already read.

The Charley Davidson series. Very funny!

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3) by Darynda Jones Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson, #4) by Darynda Jones

Did you read all of the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep or the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher? Two of my favorite UF series.

I also love the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.

Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #2) by Kevin Hearne Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne Tricked (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #4) by Kevin Hearne Trapped (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #5) by Kevin Hearne

Also really like the Blood Singer series.

Blood Song (Blood Singer, #1) by Cat Adams Siren Song (Blood Singer, #2) by Cat Adams Demon Song (Blood Singer, #3) by Cat Adams The Isis Collar (Blood Singer, #4) by Cat Adams

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments JAK wrote several futuristic PNR books. Have you tried Amaryllis (St. Helen's, #1) by Jayne Castle , Zinnia (St. Helen's, #2) by Jayne Castle , and Orchid (St. Helen's, #3) by Jayne Castle ? That's a series. Then there are her older stand alones: Sweet Starfire by Jayne Ann Krentz and Crystal Flame by Jayne Ann Krentz and Shield's Lady (Lost Colony, #3) by Jayne Ann Krentz .
And I so recommend Andre Norton's books whether you want straight fantasy (the Witch World) or science fiction. The first one of hers I ever read was Moon of Three Rings by Andre Norton many (many) years ago. I was hooked.

message 7: by La*La (new)

La*La Tairen Soul series was great.. It's a fantasy romance series, completed. Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson

Michelle (quill_n_ink) | 107 comments Martina, I know of a series you should try. Dominion Series by S.E. Lund. Found it and was hooked from the beginning. And the first book, Dominion, is FREE today and tomorrow (Dec 11 & 12) (PNR/Vampires/Vampire hunters)

Dominion (Dominion, #1) by S.E. Lund Ascension (Dominion, #2) by S.E. Lund Retribution (The Dominion Series, #3) by S.E. Lund

ETA link for Retribution, released today.

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments I've read the Jayne Castle St. Helens books and the Tairen Souls, but not the others listed. I'll look into them.

I think we're up to 5 possible new series for me so far. Anyone else got a favorite that's not listed yet?

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments Sad. The first Witch World book isn't available for my Nook. :-( That eliminates that series for the time being.

Those are just a few that I really liked if you like the PNR / UF.
If you don't mind comtemporary romance with a lot of humor and alpha males I highly recommend Kristen Ashley's Rock Chick series. I recommended it to a friend who really doesn't like straight romance and she totally loved it.
Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick, #2) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick, #3) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick, #4) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Revenge (Rock Chick, #5) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Reckoning (Rock Chick #6) by Kristen Ashley Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick, #7) by Kristen Ashley

(2) psy changling by nalini singh (saw someone recommended the arch angels and the are good as well but i got hooked on her through the psy changling series)
(3) breed series by lora leigh (this is a great series but is erotica/deep sexual language) but story line is still excellent
(4) highlander series flowing into fae series by karen marie moning.

I've read the Night Huntress Books and Divergent/Insurgent. Generally I'm not into YA, so the others aren't super interesting to me, but Divergent/Insurgent are pretty darn superior! Thanks for the recs, Zoe!

Jon, authors? Links? I'm getting either no hits or multiple hits for these titles so I don't know which books you're recommending . . . or if you're writing esoteric poetry. Though honestly those three together make a pretty good poem.

An oldie, but goodie from the fantasy world is Terry Brooks' Landover series. The world building isn't as heavy as his Shannara series and it has more romance.
