Mark (markpeters) Hello, I'm new to this group... I noticed one of my best GR pals (Kandice) is a member so I figured I would check it out :).

I live in the northeast US and I'm married with three kids. Although I've read several King books over the years, I'm still somewhat new on my journey, as I've yet to read many of his classics. The Stand was always a favorite of mine, and I just read The Shining last month, which promptly fell onto my "all time favorite books" list :).

Next up, I'd like to try 'Salem's Lot, It, Firestarter, and many more.

Salem's Lot is a must read for any King fan, and I think it's held up pretty good.

I've owned this book for so long but haven't tried it yet! Maybe it will be my next King read :). I think Kandice also mentioned it's one of her favorites.

Kandice | 4387 comments Yep! It was the first time I encountered an author using a town as an actual character. Even as old as it is, it holds up incredibly well.

F.C. Schaefer | 174 comments Kandice wrote: "Yep! It was the first time I encountered an author using a town as an actual character. Even as old as it is, it holds up incredibly well." And there is supposed to be a new movie version coming out later this year, but improving on Tobe Hooper's TV mini-series will be tough.

I agree completely! I love Rob Lowe, but the newer version with him is terrible.

message 4413: by F.C. (new)

F.C. Schaefer | 174 comments I didn't hate the Rob Lowe version, but it truly paled when compared to what Hooper did, which in my opinion, is one of the best horror mini-series ever made for TV. And there was a lot of good stuff on the tube back in the day. I taped the '90s version of The Stand off the TV, and I still have those tapes somewhere.

Vincent | 2 comments Hello, I’m Vincent. Fire starter was my first. It, The Stand, Tommyknockers and Pet Cemetary just to name a few. I throughly enjoy the process of learning a story. No one does the teaching or telling than Stephen King. The devils in the details!!

Glad to be here!

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments Greetings, everyone! My name is LTJ and Stephen King is my all-time favorite author. I was about 16 years old when I first read IT and it changed my life. It was at that moment I knew that horror would end up being my favorite genre besides mystery, suspense, and thrillers.

I took a few years off but late last summer, I became an avid, err, Constant Reader again! LoL I wanted to get back into reading again and decided to jump back into horror as one of my life goals is to read every single novel, novella, short story, etc. that King wrote. I've already read a bunch of his content as well as his most recent (I loved Later and Billy Summers) novels.

I'm looking forward to connecting with you all and am excited to jump in on this group's monthly reads starting in May. LoL I wanted to get a headstart by saying hi, introducing myself, and bringing virtual iced coffees for you all :-)

Well, here's to a great week ahead and can't wait to discuss King's wonderful content with everyone, take care!

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 85 comments Hi, I started commenting on threads a few days ago. I think my 1st King book was a Bachman book. The Running Man when I was about 14 years old. A few years later, I listened to the man himself read Needful Things on 14 cassette tapes. I really got into him after reading the Dark Tower saga (my favorite) about 11 years ago. I started listening to audiobooks pretty exclusively & only have a few titles left to be caught up. I've watched almost every screen adaptation of his work. I'm definitely a Constant Reader.

message 4421: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Ian: Wow, 14 cassette tapes? That's amazing and must have been quite the listening experience! You know, I have to get into the Dark Tower eventually, is that saga done or are there more coming?

message 4422: by Ian (RebelGeek) (new)

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 85 comments Done & a novella shoe-horned in too.

message 4423: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Ian: Ah, very cool! LoL yeah, I'll probably pick them up this week to have on my TBR to hopefully read entirely at some point this year. Does the novella go before Dark Tower or read it after?

The novella The Wind Through the Keyhole takes place between 4 & 5, but was published after the series was completed. I read it in publishing order, but only because I had already read the 7 novels when it came out. I think it could be enjoyed either way. It may contain a spoiler about the origins of The Man in Black, but I don't remember for sure.

message 4426: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Ian: Ah, I see, thank you ever so much for this insight! Yeah, I'll probably read that novella after the series so I don't get confused, LoL that tends to happen to me from time to time.

I can't wait to check these out!

Darryl Reed | 2 comments Hi everyone! Name's Darryl and although I signed up with the group pretty long along ago, I really haven't discussed anything for most of that time. Favorite authors include Stephen King (Obviously), Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Nora Roberts writing as J. D. Robb, Dean Koontz, R. A. Salvatore and Carrie Vaughn. I'm looking forward to actually reading with you all, starting with Everything's Eventual. Although, I've previously read it and found 1408 to be my favorite story within.

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Jordan: Welcome and awesome! LoL yeah, same here, sadly, I've yet to ever be able to attend an autograph signing he does as I also don't think he's doing many public appearances these days. I do enjoy watching him read a selection from whatever new novel he works on (he did this with Later and Billy Summers on YouTube which rocked!) but yeah, maybe one of these days that dream will happen :-)

Cobaltdragon | 59 comments Hello. I have been a fan of Stephen King since the 1970's and began with Carrie. Salem's Lot - still one of my all time favourtie vampire novels. Just getting back to rereading some of the old favourites. Personally although his novels never disappoint, the one I found the scariest was Misery. The others were definitely scary and thought provoking, but Misery was just truly terrifying. Looking forward to going through old posts and reading what others thought of his different novels.

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Elaine: Greetings and welcome! I love those classic King novels as you came to the right place! Enjoy and hell yeah, Misery was indeed a wild ride. You'll find a ton of great author and novel recommendations here :-D

There was some talk that, had Bachman not been discovered as a pseudonym, Misery could have been a Bachman book.

C.J. Lloyd | 1 comments Hello everyone, I have been a big fan of Mr. King for sometime now and really starting to dig into his originals more and more, which are ABSOLUTELY incredible. Currently in the middle of Salem's Lot. I went to college in "Banga" Maine and I won't say I drove by his house a few times HAHA
