Welcome!

Welcome

He has been a big influence in my writing ... I love horror.

Welcome Hannah. What's your favorite King book so far?

Well, that is a difficult question... I don't have just one favourite I think ;) My favourites would be The Shining, Needful Things, Salem's Lot and IT, I think. I also loved Doctor Sleep. I still need/want to read The Stand and am about to start the Dark Tower series as well. I've heard both are great, so they might end up on my favourites list too!

I'm sure they will... at least some of the dark tower. Looking forward to your comments as you go along.

I mostly do it Audiobook style, so that added a whole heap of cowbell to the whole thing. It's so far my most favourite Audiobook, the Muller-King combo was miraculous. Aye, so it was.
Trying to teach myself to write, and king is running a clinic on epic fantasy with the dt series, so he is. I aspire, admire and envy simultaneously

Hello Hannah! Nice to have another Stephen King fan aboard. The Dark Tower Series is my favorite books that King has ever written! I love all of them. Alot of King fans do not like these books for some reason.
I have seen King at a YMCA event. I even got to ask him a question about the Dark Tower series. I was nervous when I spoke to him. It was so cool. Let me know how you like the series.

Nice to meet you Steve. I LOVE, LOVE,LOVE The Dark Tower Series. It is my favorite King books ever. I love the Drawing of the Three as well. I read the series as the books were released. I had started to reread them one after the other I got up to Wolves Of The Calla and I realized that reading them this way made the Dark Tower experience a better cohesive experience than reading them years between releases.

11/22/63 is one of King's best, there's much more there than the summaries suggest.

We actually did a group read of Revival. We (try to!) mark spoilers, so visiting that thread should be safe. Revival seems to be one of his that got very mixed reviews. Personally, I didn't love it, but as a lot of us say, King's tripe is another author's caviar, so it's still certainly worth reading.

Get a copy of On Writing, the audiobook is great too. There's a lot of biography but also so solid lessons on everything you need to know about writing, even adverbs (he said sarcastically).

I second that Nick. "On Writing" is a superb primer for any aspiring or established author.

The next book on my King reading pile is 11/22/63 and I'm looking so forward to it.
Great to be a part of a group that so clearly has good taste!

King inspired me to write my own novel and I getting so much joy out of his stories.

So come join the group read of Gerald's Game starting on March 1. (you too Clare & Jeramy) Everyone reads it and we argue about it as we go, hopefully with spoilers hidden.

Just check the topics, after March 1 or thereabouts there'll be a topic called group read Gerald's Game... Just click on it and join in. If no one comments by then just wait a few days.

Here's a better answer than the one I thought I just gave. Go to the home page, scroll down under boards until you come to the topics called Buddy Reads (or it may be higher on the list.) You'll see it. Then click on the topic and you'll go to the discussion. After that if you click on Emila me when people reply you'll get e-mail messages when people post to that topic.

I just checked out your reviews Todd. Good comments. I enjoyed Cell myself... plan to read it again very soon. Also like your quotes from Mr. King. Be interesting to hear what you think of Rose Madder. There was quite a discussion of it here last month.

Welcome Daphne! Have to admit, I have no idea what the second half of your post means. ;-)

welcome Daphne! do you read Stephen King in English or in Dutch?
I have always felt that translations would lose something. I've read things translated from other languages and I can tell I'm not getting the full effect originally intended. With King, it would seem important. Plus, so many of his characters are defined by their US location, ie; Maine.

Carrie was my first also in the 70s, but it made me want to read every King that came out after that. But I was a few years older...
