Regina (ginaknisley) Hello My name is Regina and I just joined good reads and and found this group. KING is my favorite author and I am very close to finishing a complete collection of his work in Hardback.I am finding it difficult to find the first few Dark Tower books in Hardback at a price I can afford, bummer but I will keep searching. I have even picked up the electronic editions. The Dark Tower series is my favorite and Dr. Sleep is second. I have not read every title as of yet but getting close. I have recently picked up Joe Hill Heart Shaped Box and would love to start it soon.I just finished the sequel to If I Stay....which is titled Where She Went. I like all genres of books and I love to get lost in a story and I don't read to pick apart the authors works. If it looks interesting and has a summary that gets my attention I read it. I have been wanting to read Gone Girl so hopefully I can get it read in the next couple days and be able to join the discussions. Looking forward to this group as well as Good reads.

E. | 242 comments Hi Regina! Welcome to Goodreads and this group. It's pretty active, I think you'll like it. Joe Hill rocks, I liked Nos4a2 and 20th Century Ghosts best I think. Gone Girl was surprisingly good. I immediately got her other 2 books after reading it.
Happy reading =}

Hi Valerie! :) I am a budding Dean Koontz fan. Read Intensity and Innocence recently. Both were great!

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hi Cheri, welcome. There's a group read of Rose Madder starting on 1/1/15 if you want to join that discussion. Looks like the discussion of Revival is still going on too... plus an ongoing commentary on the dark tower series, especially the ending.

What is very funny is that he seems to have sort of adopted his father's style with the short chapters and random, unexpected cursing. lol

Haha! Me too. Adds a bit of comic relief, in my mind. Plus when characters swear, it feels more organic.

Right, if it isn't set up somehow, even remotely, readers get mad and claim it's out of character. Tom Robbins does it a lot though, I'm finding... in the voice of the narrator. It's like someone throwing cold water in your face... refreshing.

George Deoso | 1 comments THE THING WITH STEPHEN KING'S BOOKS IS THAT I DON'T GET SCARED, BUT DISTURBED

Hi, George here. The first Stephen King book I've read is Cujo and I was thirteen years old and I thought such creature was really possible to exist.
Five years later-right now- I'm in college taking up an AB in Literature, and had read more than twenty books by him. My favorite was "The Shining", partly because of Kubrick's adaptation, and partly because I was able to read my copy to tatters and still get those chills that makes my knuckles white as bones.

Hi There! For horror recommendations other than Stephen King, I recommend Shirley Jackson. She can set a tone like nobody's business. The Lottery and We Have Always Lived in the Castle would be a good start. I read the Haunting of Hill House a couple of weeks ago by her and it was pretty unique. She can really captivate the eeriness of horror unlike any other author I've read. Otherwise, HP Lovecraft and any of his short stories. He was a huge influence for SK. Ummm I'd also have to say Ira Levin. I'm currently reading Rosemary's Baby and loving it.

The Shining is one of my all time favorites. Be sure to check out the sequel, Doctor Sleep when you are finished! :)

Jonathan Hi King Fans!

I live in Calgary, Canada and I've been a King fan for awhile. I've read about 30 of his books and my favourite is IT which was also my first one. I look forward to being in a group where I can discuss his work with other fans.

Happy reading for 2015!!

Beatriz (beatrizhpz) Hi everybody! My name is Beatriz and I am a recent fan of Mr. King. When I was a little younger I was barely interested in his work, because of the tag "Horror" that was linked to his name. Luckily, I was convinced to start reading his books... And I say thanks for that ;)

Welcome Masoome and Beatriz.

I hate how King gets labelled as a "Horror" writer. Yeah he has written some "Horror" stories but I think he should just be known as a fiction writer. He writes about so many different subjects and I think that's why some people don't like some of his work because they're expecting it to be a "Horror" novel when really it may not be meant to be.

message 1132: by Karen (new)

Karen Hi, I am new to this group. Long time King fan and avid reader. I am also new to goodreads. Can someone tell me how this group works. Thanks... I am a little lost. Karen.

message 1133: by Michael (new)

Michael Davis Hi Karen. I hope you enjoy the group. I've gotten a lot of insight to SK's work here. And a lot of good book recommendations. Welcome!

message 1134: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Hi Karen. You won't be lost for long. This group has lots of good thread topics to read or take part in. Like most groups, we chose a book to read each month and discuss it as we read. This month is Rose Madder, so if you've read it or want to read it, look up that thread and jump in to the conversation.
Goodreads is the new Facebook, so I've heard...

message 1135: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (marisamira) | 24 comments I really hope Goodreads is not the new Facebook. That sounds so awful.

message 1136: by Karen (last edited Jan 10, 2015 08:47AM) (new)

Karen Hi, thanks for the welcome. Seems like a great group. What are you guys reading now?

message 1137: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments lol re:Facebook
I think when I read that they were referring to the fact they spent more time on goodreads than the other site, they checked in more often, had more interesting dialogue, got more out if it.
More of a personal habit change, not that goodreads is changing.

message 1138: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (marisamira) | 24 comments That sounds a lot better. It would be sad if companies started advertising of here regularly.

message 1140: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Yes, Facebook is a boring mess. I'm connected because otherwise I'm off the family grid. The only time I've been on there in probably 4-5 months was when I shared my accomplishment of the 2014 goodreads challenge. =}

Karen, the group read right now is Rose Madder. Look for that thread for GREAT dialogue
Personally right now I'm reading "All Good Deeds" by Stacy Green as a BOTM read for another group. It's really good. I'm also reading "Triptych ", by Karin Slaughter. I keep having to remind myself it's a female author. Pretty gritty. It's set in Atlanta, GA, US, where I used to live. I like seeing familiar locations.
