The years not over so I have done my stats yet. It has been an interesting year, thought I've had more 2 and 3✰ ratings than usual. Most of my favorites this year were older books.

My Favorites were

Tapestry of Bronze Series by Victoria Grossack and Alice Underwood

Comfort and Joy by Jim Grimsley

Ballad of Beta 2, Empire Star, The Einstein Intersection and Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders all by Samuel R. Delany

The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson

Clicking Beat on the Brink of Nada by Keith Hale

The Charioteer by Mary Renault

The King of Ys series by Poul Anderson and his wife Karen, an Historical Fantasy.

The only pure Fantasy I read this year has been the Ryria Revelations which I thought fun, but average. I'm into a long space opera series, but may work through some short quickies to get my counts up. My mood will decide. I am going to look at some more of Poul Anderson's historical fantasy (or mythic fiction if you wish).

My GR resolution will be to review more of the books I read next year.

Jules (jclim00) Have you read Jim Grimsley's first book, Winter Birds? It's an absolutely devastating and at times beautiful look into Dan Krell's childhood. I had to go reread Comfort & Joy after finishing it, it adds a whole new dimension to his relationship with Ford and his family.

Lincoln | 3 comments Sad to say it but I've read less than ten books this year. I have absolutely no excuse, other than I've become quite obsessed with video games. I had surgery in November and have read four books since then, and am really enjoying reading again. Hoping to keep this up in the new year.

Sergey (zvukvnochi) this has been a slow year for reading for yours truly. unfruitful. and, looking back, i cannot attribute to any one reason as to why. it was a meh year for the written word.

Bill Hsu (billhsu) | 3 comments I read 90+ books this year. And I gave 4 stars to a lot more books than I did in 2011. It's been a great year for the written word.
