Oh, thanks, Jennifer, that's great! It's not that I don't have plenty of doorstoppers books to choose from but I'm still at the beginning of the first 1000+ pages one. Strange, it's Steven King's and it's going really slow, usually I don't have any problems with his books... But to be fair real life's getting in the way - my new bf is distracting me from reading and I have finals coming... Sigh.
I only have one question - do the page count work for alternate editions? I know I have a 700+ book that is 800+ in another edition and I've been meaning to read it since forever. I'm just looking for a shorter option so that I could actually finish this... :)

message 352: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Which one are you reading? I just finished Under the Dome. I really enjoyed it (more than I thought I would).

I'd say go by whatever edition you're reading, but I'm not going to check so...lol Pick the edition that works best for you.

Tell that boyfriend to behave. You've got reading to do! =D

message 353: by Kattibrie (new)

Kattibrie | 102 comments Oh, I've read Under the Dome and even though I don't particularly like King it was a fun and easy read. ;) I've started The Stand- I'm only at 220 or something pages and so far nothing's happened...
If it were an - ebook I'd just pick the edition that works, after all e-book pages are slightly different than normal ones. The thing is that I already have the book I'm talking about in paperback. We'll see, if I have enough time I'm gonna read something else, but thanks for the understanding, Jennifer! (I really can't swap this month because I can't do the original June one :( ). And to think I actually planned to read a 2000+ book and even found several... LOL
And LOL - I'll tell him ;)

message 354: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments hehe I just bought The Stand. I seem to have misplaced my paperback. Bleh. Oh well. In any edition it'll work for the challenge. It's friggin huge.

message 355: by Kattibrie (new)

Kattibrie | 102 comments Oh, yeah, The Stand will work just fine. i'm worried about the second book LOL

Turtlecollector Dennis Can I switch 2 months around? I am no longer sure if I will be seeing my niece in June, but I definitely will in August. Can I do August's task in June and then June's task in August? I would like to do all the tasks as originally posted but would need to change those two months.

message 359: by Kattibrie (new)

Kattibrie | 102 comments It seems I might not be able to finish this. :( I'm still only at 40% with The Stand and I just barely started my 800+ book. And if I substitute May I won't be able to do June at all... :(

message 360: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) How would we go about reporting the June challenge? Would we put the title, the date, the name of the person we read to and for how long?

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments For June, since not everyone is blessed with a 4 year old at home to read to every night, I am making a small adjustment to this month. If you don't have someone to read to, you may have someone read to you (like an audio book). (Does that help?)

Mmm, for me personally that doesn't help. Too bad June isn't just about listening to audiobooks LOL

message 367: by Laura (new)

Laura | 190 comments Hi, ~Jennifer~, that really does help! How much of an audiobook do we need to listen to each day? Would an hour be enough to cover it?

message 368: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Umm. Let's see. When I read to my son it's anywhere from 15-20 minutes at a time. So to compete with the original challenge let's go with anything at or over 1 hour 15 minutes.

message 369: by Laura (new)

Laura | 190 comments Sounds good to me, thank you very much!

message 370: by Kattibrie (new)

And since I won't be able to finish my May task I'll change it to: "This month read at least 1000 pages". I'm almost there...

message 378: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments Yes on the audiobook thing! I use those anyway. It's the only way I could have gotten through both Atlas Shrugged & 1Q84 in the same month. Although not quite finished with 1Q84. This book could really be a few hundred pages shorter if he would stop repeating himself over and over again as if the reader is suffering from short-term memory loss.

message 379: by Mary X (last edited May 28, 2013 06:18PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments Oh and I think I might have a series for august after all. Maybe.

I say maybe because I only own book 1 and I don't know if I like it or not. But it's only 6 books and they aren't door stoppers. Well the first one isn't, I can only hope the rest aren't as well. But my library has all the others so if I like the series and I can get them all in time in the right order, I'll give it a shot.

But I do have a question for the series on in August. How long do they have to be? I have some ebook, series shorts that I could read if the other one doesn't work out but 5 together maybe only be 2 or 300 pages.

message 380: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Whatever is challenging for you. I'm not going to set a page limit for that month.

never mind, I see where it was said we could do mystery/suspense.

message 383: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments I updated my post here

I had to change May cause I couldn't get through the 5 books from a genre I usually ignore (which I had switched with September). I thought I'd be able to get some reading done while recovering from surgery, but that didn't work out at all. So I changed May to Make Your Own and did read 5000 pages.

June I'm gonna keep the read to someone or have someone read to you since we can do the audiobook thing now. I got a bunch of audiobooks for while I was in recovery, but that didn't work out much either.

September I'm keeping read the 2 800+ page books cause it might be the only way I continue on with that damn Game of Thrones series. lol

Zuzana | 1203 comments ~Jennifer~ wrote: "Would it help if I made May two 800+ page books? Yes? No? Leave it alone?"

Great, this way I can use the first book in the Game of thrones series I'm currently reading (300 pages to go and only two days left, but I think I'll finish in time).

message 386: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) Can we the month swap a month that's already passed? I'm not going to finish my big books for this month but I just realized that I read two books back in January that would qualify and I've read over 3,000 pages this month.

If not, I'll probably swap with November or December, but I'd rather keep those for the holidays!

message 387: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments You may swap anything during the year whether it's passed or not. Just keep track of the options you're using! :)

message 388: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I might have to do that too if I can. I can't get my 2nd chunkster finished by tonight. But I don't think I did a month with 2 super long books yet to swap this one with and I don't think I want to try and get in 2 more 900+ pagers this year.

Off to do some rearranging.

Harri (books_and_tea) I've read over 1000 pages of both books, but the only books I could get my hands on were both 1400 pages. I'm nearly finished them both, but not quite. I've also had exams this month which is annoying. Can I finish the last 200 pages of each book this month on top of this month's challenge?

I got the following books on audible...does that count as reading to them?
:)~)
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin Jr. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? by Jane Yolen

If not, I read to the kids almost every night anyway.
BTW, my kids loved the intro "This is audible kids."
Gwyneth Paltrow read Polar Bear & Brown Bear. The kids loved it, and even liked the Spanish narration. When we got home from the mall, my 4 year old said, "No mommy, my book isn't done" and it reminded me of so many times when I stayed in my car instead of coming into the house because I needed to hear a few more minutes of my audiobook:)

The only problem is that I had to borrow 3 library books per each story so all three kids can follow along. Hopefully I won't lose any books or my youngest won't rip the pages as he is prone to do
