Exactly! I once saw a production of Canterburgy Tales in London & most of the jokes went right over my head! It was great fun all the same!

Let's add...Monty Python to that list!!!

Was Benny Hill British? He scared the hell out of me when I was a kid - creepy.

message 4210: by Rora (new)

Rora 9. Read a book with a color in the title AND eat a meal that includes at least 2 foods that are that color (you don’t have to cook it yourself).

For 15 points I read...Red as Blood by Tanith Lee

I had toast with raspberry jam and some strawberries.

(New total: 330 points)

message 4211: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 400 comments I am so glad to hear about the library "hogs" among us! I only have eight at home now (with about five more on order) and thought the LIBRARY POLICE were going to come after me, guess I am OK.

I am very glad to have found this club as I am in a break from schooling right now and was beginning to get lazy with my reading (I usually have 2-3 books going at once), but now I am reading at least one and am trying for two at a time. This will keep me in shape for when I get into Grad School (MLIS) hopefully in the Spring of next year.

Walden's great, I'm glad you are finally able to read it! Thoreau was a real bad-ass and had a lot of good things to say.

And, crap, I forgot Monty Python... how embarrassing. :)

I think this is it- I seem to remember seeing something on the book- maybe a 'as seen on t.v.' sticker or something. I don't think DeFord mentioned it so I must have seen it on the book or in the description. I'm sure the movie was every bit as powerful as the book.

I did book on tape for his one. I really enjoyed it. It was alot less scandilous than the last one I read by Binchy. However I did enjoy the scandilous one too. I'm thinking book on tape is genius. I'm able to clean and 'read' at the same time. Which is great since cleanliness is the main thing that gets neglected when I put my nose in a book.

I believe my total is now 110 pts

message 4226: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments I just finished task 15.9 Whitewash by Alex Kava and I had cereal with milk and a vanilla yogurt. This was a thriller focused on eco-sabotage of the watersupply (with a weird terrorism/assassination subplot that didn't seem to quite fit). It was a pretty good quick read, but by no means a great mystery. At the end, quite a few threads were left hanging.

I stole the idea, but it's a great one, so I'm happy to pass it along!

Our library system only has 2 branches (us and the neighboring college town), but they have a pretty good selection between them. They've got most of the romance novels over there, but we have a TON of YA at ours. They make book runs daily taking books people request back and forth. Of course, it would probably be faster to drive the 7 miles from my house to the other city's library, but it's so convenient to have them drop it at our library--especially since I work 2 blocks from it!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) Roseann wrote: "I am so glad to hear about the library "hogs" among us! I only have eight at home now (with about five more on order) and thought the LIBRARY POLICE were going to come after me, guess I am OK."

EIGHT?? The Library Police won't come after you for a while yet. I think at one time (at my old library), I had... 30 or 35 books checked out... (I was unemployed at the time, and reading a TON, but since the books are FREE, I don't feel obligated to read them the first time I check them out. I almost ALWAYS return about 25% of the books I check out unread.) SO, if they didn't come after me for 30+ books, you're fine.

Also, I know one of the ladies who works at my local library, and she tells me funny things about the library. One thing she finds really interesting (and funny) is that some people will call in and argue about their late fines. BUT the people who call in are generally people who owe less than $5.00, when there are people who owe $200.00 in fines!! How funny is that?

While there are some people who have Christmas traditions like reading the account of Jesus's birth from the New Testament, watching It's a Wonderful Life... Nice things like that.

He/The Church published the book in 1882 as the third book in a "Faith-Promoting Series". One of the lines under the title on the title page says, "Designed for the instruction and encouragement of young Latter-day Saints."

Since the book is SO SO OLD, it's not under copyright anymore. Hence, you can find the complete text of the book online. I just uploaded PDF and text versions of the book to the book's goodreads page for download.

I bought a used paperback copy online for not very much. My version is 119 pages.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) I was at Half Price Books today, and saw a book on display that made me laugh aloud. It has a freakishly long title, but is only 112 pages with a lot of pictures, so I'm not sure that Cynthia would let you use it for my task. BUT, I still have to share:

How to Tell If Your Boyfriend Is the Antichrist: And If He Is, Should You Break Up with Him?

Holy hilariousness, Batman! I opened the book, and it was a series of "How to tell if your boyfriend..." scenarios, including if he is: a cult leader, an insufferable bore, OCD, a narcoleptic, an extra-terrestrial, a Trekkie, etc. It lists red flags for each of these scenarios, and then helps you decide whether or not to dump the guy... hahaha... Funny stuff!

OOOoohhh... Here's the website: http://www.antichristboyfriend.com/
If you refresh the site, it will show different "How to tell if your boyfriend" scenarios... :)

The library I use also has an online link and you can check what is available and order books to collect.

I have about 16 books out at the moment - not all spring challenge and I am quickly working my way through them.

Ashley (affie) | 371 comments I just got done reading Strawberry Girl by Lois Lenski for the 5 pt Woman's History Task- word Girl. The book was pretty good, not my favorite, but oh well. It won the Newberry Award, and I can see why, but it isn't one of my favorites. The ending was too put together, too easy, and a little unbelievable.
And, although I know it is intentional, constantly reading git, larn, hit etc gets annoying...

Total- 300 pts!

El I went a few years without visiting the library, mostly because I worked in a bookstore and borrowed merchandise that way. But now that I'm out of retail and can't spend my money that way, the library and I are back to being tight. I try to go at least every Saturday to return an armful of books and to pick up just about as many as I return.

Another YA series I love is the Rangers Apprentice series by John Flanagan. And I finally finished all of the published Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer and really loved that YA series too.

I hear Gregor the Overlander is another good one, but I haven't gotten to those books yet.

Last night I made black beans and rice for dinner and also picked up some black licorice for dessert...YUM! So far licorice (both black and red) has been one of my off-the-wall pregnancy cravings, hehe.

Angela | 1934 comments I know I am not the only one who is curious about our 50 point task :)
