OFFICIAL SPRING CHALLENGE - 2009

I have just been using my "to read" list to fill in tasks, it makes the most sense to me to read w..."
Judith: Since I'm a teacher I feel I can assign some homework for you - you MUST read at least one very frivolous and silly book this summer!!!! =)

5. For Easter/Lent…
- Read a Christian Fiction novel,
- A book about sacrifice, OR
- A book about something you would or are planning to give up.
Alex: The Life of A Child- Alex DeFord
..."
I think this was made into a movie years ago. I remember watching a very powerful movie about a young girl with cystic fibrosis (sp?). Maybe a made for TV movie?

25.4 - The Woman in White - 3/5/2009
15.1 - [b:..."
Natalia: How was Numerati? That looks interesting...

7. DARLA'S TASK - Read a book you've either seen in a movie or heard referenced in a movie.
The Princess..."
I did not like The Princess Bride the movie and have never tried to read the book. I just thought it was dumb.

Amy: It's Sci-Fi but with British humor...I think.

Great..."
El: I'm thankful for your task because I've wanted to read Walden, or Life in the Woods since 1991 but have never made the time. I've actually owned two copies of the book but gave up on it the first time around. It's so dense! So, I appreciate the challenge & the opportunity...

Exactly! I once saw a production of Canterburgy Tales in London & most of the jokes went right over my head! It was great fun all the same!
Let's add...Monty Python to that list!!!
Was Benny Hill British? He scared the hell out of me when I was a kid - creepy.

For 15 points I read...Red as Blood by Tanith Lee
I had toast with raspberry jam and some strawberries.
(New total: 330 points)

I am very glad to have found this club as I am in a break from schooling right now and was beginning to get lazy with my reading (I usually have 2-3 books going at once), but now I am reading at least one and am trying for two at a time. This will keep me in shape for when I get into Grad School (MLIS) hopefully in the Spring of next year.

OMG, I love Fawlty Towers. Has anyone seen Jeeves and Wooster? I love it... It is with Hugh Laurie, who plays Dr. House on House. Jeeves and Wooster is a great show! Has anyone read any of the books?

Walden's great, I'm glad you are finally able to read it! Thoreau was a real bad-ass and had a lot of good things to say.
And, crap, I forgot Monty Python... how embarrassing. :)

Great..."
El, if nothing else, your task has made me aware that this list of diarists exists, and that I might enjoy exploring a bit. I have the recent Lewis Carroll biography on my list, and it's always possible I'll get time to read it, too!

5. For Easter/Lent…

Alex: The Life of A Chil..."
I think this is it- I seem to remember seeing something on the book- maybe a 'as seen on t.v.' sticker or something. I don't think DeFord mentioned it so I must have seen it on the book or in the description. I'm sure the movie was every bit as powerful as the book.

#9 Book with Lamb in it
The Crippled Lamb

#1
Book set in Ireland
Scarlet Feather
I did book on tape for his one. I really enjoyed it. It was alot less scandilous than the last one I read by Binchy. However I did enjoy the scandilous one too. I'm thinking book on tape is genius. I'm able to clean and 'read' at the same time. Which is great since cleanliness is the main thing that gets neglected when I put my nose in a book.
I believe my total is now 110 pts

I wasn't all that thrilled with it at first but I already had this book and seeing you guys all say that you're glad you read it certainly has me starting to look forward to it more! Hopefully I'll feel the same way!

Yes, it was me but I never even thought to do that! I'm going to change mine now- can it just have tnbbc in it with other words or does it have to be ONLY tnbbc does anyone know?
I'm glad so many people are finding it helpful- I'm glad I thought to mention it! LOL

Nice way of doing it! Waiting until the end and then using what works best!

I am glad that I finally finished this and will be even happier once I have completed the NCE (and pass)!! I did read the entire book, but plan on reviewing it until the test on Saturday. Definately not something I would normally read :)

I read Danielle Steele's "A Good Woman" and Anita Diamant's "The Red Tent".
Loved The Red Tent. The other, not so much. It was okay.
I broke the 200 mark-now at 210!

and yes I'm a total library book hogger too! Our library system has an amazing online catalog where you can search each ..."
I stole the idea, but it's a great one, so I'm happy to pass it along!
Our library system only has 2 branches (us and the neighboring college town), but they have a pretty good selection between them. They've got most of the romance novels over there, but we have a TON of YA at ours. They make book runs daily taking books people request back and forth. Of course, it would probably be faster to drive the 7 miles from my house to the other city's library, but it's so convenient to have them drop it at our library--especially since I work 2 blocks from it!

I haven't read mine yet, but I know I'll like the book I chose, which is Leaves From My Journal: A Journey of Faith by Wilford Woodruff.

I didn't like the movie when I was younger, but I love it now!

I haven't read mine yet, but I know I'll like the book I chose, which is [b:Leaves From My Journal: A Journey of Faith|3112314|Leaves from My Jo..."
I didn't see the Wilford Woodruff on that list! Maybe I'll have to change the book I chose to that one. Sounds great!

EIGHT?? The Library Police won't come after you for a while yet. I think at one time (at my old library), I had... 30 or 35 books checked out... (I was unemployed at the time, and reading a TON, but since the books are FREE, I don't feel obligated to read them the first time I check them out. I almost ALWAYS return about 25% of the books I check out unread.) SO, if they didn't come after me for 30+ books, you're fine.
Also, I know one of the ladies who works at my local library, and she tells me funny things about the library. One thing she finds really interesting (and funny) is that some people will call in and argue about their late fines. BUT the people who call in are generally people who owe less than $5.00, when there are people who owe $200.00 in fines!! How funny is that?

Black Adder... hahahahaha!
While there are some people who have Christmas traditions like reading the account of Jesus's birth from the New Testament, watching It's a Wonderful Life... Nice things like that.
We have two:
(1) Chinese food on Christmas Eve
(2) Watching the Blackadder's Christmas Carol
Have you seen it??? Hahahaha... I love Hugh Laurie...

I'm glad so many people are finding it helpful- I'm glad I thought to mention it! LOL "
I think you can put commas between tags, if you want more that one tag. You could do like, "tnbbc, spring-challenge" or whatever.

He/The Church published the book in 1882 as the third book in a "Faith-Promoting Series". One of the lines under the title on the title page says, "Designed for the instruction and encouragement of young Latter-day Saints."
Since the book is SO SO OLD, it's not under copyright anymore. Hence, you can find the complete text of the book online. I just uploaded PDF and text versions of the book to the book's goodreads page for download.
I bought a used paperback copy online for not very much. My version is 119 pages.

How to Tell If Your Boyfriend Is the Antichrist: And If He Is, Should You Break Up with Him?
Holy hilariousness, Batman! I opened the book, and it was a series of "How to tell if your boyfriend..." scenarios, including if he is: a cult leader, an insufferable bore, OCD, a narcoleptic, an extra-terrestrial, a Trekkie, etc. It lists red flags for each of these scenarios, and then helps you decide whether or not to dump the guy... hahaha... Funny stuff!
OOOoohhh... Here's the website: http://www.antichristboyfriend.com/
If you refresh the site, it will show different "How to tell if your boyfriend" scenarios... :)
(WARNING: Not really appropriate for kids...)

The library I use also has an online link and you can check what is available and order books to collect.
I have about 16 books out at the moment - not all spring challenge and I am quickly working my way through them.

And, although I know it is intentional, constantly reading git, larn, hit etc gets annoying...
Total- 300 pts!

Another YA series I love is the Rangers Apprentice series by John Flanagan. And I finally finished all of the published Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer and really loved that YA series too.
I hear Gregor the Overlander is another good one, but I haven't gotten to those books yet.

9:The Black Dagger Brotherhood an Insider's Guide by J.R. Ward (4/04/09) I'd origianlly read this book as one-half of the rhyming task but after meeting with my book club earlier this week, I ended up with a new title to try to fit in and did some shuffling, so now I'm using it for the food task. Last night I made black beans and rice for dinner and also picked up some black licorice for dessert...YUM! So far licorice (both black and red) has been one of my off-the-wall pregnancy cravings, hehe.

Sorry to be so impatient!! Waiting for new tasks and challenges to post is like Christmas for me :P
