I have just read The Shack for 5 points. I thought that it was an interesting book and I loved the character that he had made God to be! Overall a very theologically correct book which is great. People get their ideas of who/what/why God is from what they read and it's good to see that there is something out there that may be giving people a more accurate picture of God than an old man with a white beard in the clouds.5 POINTS

I finished another baby task last night:Task 5.3 - Oldest TBR: The Boy Book: A Study of Habits and Behaviors, Plus Techniques for Taming Them by E. Lockhart (5/7/09)
I feel great about getting a ridiculously old add completed, but honestly, I'm glad I didn't read it any sooner! Now I only have to wait until July for Book 3 ( The Treasure Map of Boys: Noel, Jackson, Finn, Hutch--and me, Ruby Oliver ).... HOLY COW, did that book leave me hanging!! It was really cute though. If you liked the first book ( The Boyfriend List: 15 guys, 11 shrink appointments, 4 ceramic frogs, and me, Ruby Oliver ), you'd like this one, too.

E-books are a great way to get away with reading at work! I'm a receptionist and it's been pretty quiet recently so over the last week or so I've read The Scarlet Pimpernel for 5 points. Yet again a classic has surprised me by me enjoying it! I always think I don't like classics but whenever I actually do read them I normally always find I like them!Does anyone know of a free ebook that will fit Jon's 25 point task of the British Monarchy by any chance?!

I've followed your advice and looked back to see which books I've read since the start of the challenge that fit in. THe books I've read so far are below.5.4- The Tannery- Sherrie Hewson (read on the bus to and from work)
5.5 The Chocolate lovers club- Carole Matthews (something I would give up for lent)
5.6 A good Woman- Danielle Steel (book with Woman in the title)
5.7 The Beach House- Jane Green (recycled to my mum)
5.8 Dear Fatty- Dawn French- (comedian autobiography)
10.7 This Year it will be different- Maeve Binchy (passed on to me by my mum)
15.1 What my mother doesn't know- Sonya Sones (about a girls first love. It is book in verse- but the only other book I could think of for Virgo I didn't want to read)
15.6 Girl with the Dragon Tattoo- Sieg Larson (translated from Swedish)
15.8 Jackie Daydream- Jacqueline Wilson (autobiography- saw her interviewed about the book on tv)
I'm still trying to read some more books- I will update as I go along. I can't make up my mind whether to go straight onto the Summer challenge when it is posted - or try and work through this list!
What do most people do- or do a lot of you finish each challenge.
I thought I was a fairly quick reader- but not sure I'll ever complete a challenge in a season!
I know I'll probably finish, but I would probably give up on the books I chose for this challenge if I didn't get to them - unless it is something I really really want to read and can fit into one of the categories for the next challenge.
Finished another book last night. A light, fluffy, yet surprisingly long romance (470 pages) Suddenly by Barbara Delinsky for the 10 point mothers day task. My mother's name is Barbara. That brings me to 545 point. 4 more books to go.
Cynthia - one question. I have been planning to read Maidenstone Lighthouse for a book with "maiden" in the title. Before i read it, i just wanted to make sure it would count because it is not listed separately. I have a backup book, but would prefer to read this one!

I just finished reading The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde for the 10.9 task. It is number 91 and everyone could read it as I don't think any of us were born before 1900 or in 2000 or after.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written, has some incredibly funny names in it, and has a great plot line. I can't wait to read the next one. My favorite is Braxton Hicks.

So I am slowly moving forward and now have 320 points. I would love to see 400, but I'm not sure that is going to happen. We shall see.

Wow, 11? I only knew of three... I suppose you never really run out of books do you?
I just finished the 50 point task ... I read The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket (which I liked, but I'm not in a rush to read the rest ... I can see why my daughter loves these books though!) and The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler, which I really enjoyed, and never would've read if it wasn't for this task! That's what I love about this challenge!!Brings my total up to 315 points .... not sure I'm going to make my target of 400 but I'll do my best!
Reading update: I read The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam. The author also made a documentary about Sam, who happens to be her great-grandfather. A neat slice-of-life from the past about a world I didn't know existed.10 POINTS

Oy, can I just say that the end of this challenge is turning out to be quite difficult? I'm not trying to finish, but I was hoping to get quite a few books read in May. I've been simultaneously looking on two very long books, though: The Story of Britain for John's task, which is fascinating and worth 25 points after all but very slow and I may not finish by the end of the month, and At Swim, Two Boys for the 10 point Irish task, which is very beautiful but I don't like the plot as much as I'd hoped and 560+ pages is a lot for ten points. Maybe I can still fit in some of the quicker reads towards the end of the month.

I'm moving one of my books--Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman to rhyming task, paired with The Report Card by Andrew Clements. And I'm replacing Graveyard Book with Gregor the Overlander (in the G and R 25 point task).
So, I'm adding the 15 points for the rhyming task.

(Let me know if that doesn't make sense!) I actually checked one out from the library yesterday for Jon's task, but it still feels a little overwhelming for me. We'll see.
Could The Tales of Beetle the Bard count as a book that is mentioned in a movie (the Harry Potter movies?) Nevermind--I just looked it up and it only appears in the final book which is not yet a movie. Couldn't remember. Oh well, still looking.

For task 5.1, I just finished "Stardust". I had already seen the movie and loved it, but the book is alot different. I did like it, I just miss some of the stuff that was in the movie, like the part on ship.Anyway-that makes 320 points.
It has been forever since I last finished a challenge book (or any book!) and posted here. But, I finally finished one -- The Shadow of the Wind for the 15 point #6 task (translated book). The book was originally written in Spanish and I read the French translation. That brings my total to 55. I am WAY behind most of you but now that classes are over for the summer and I only have work to worry about, I am hoping to pick up the pace on reading.
Just one more this week. I finished 5.4 - The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I read the entire thing on my BART commutes to and from work and school. Which was torture! I loved this book, it has been awhile since I read something with a gothic air to it. I kept on wanting to plow through it and was trapped impatiently waiting till my next commute.[image error]
I finished 2 more....only one more to go!10.10 When God Was a Woman by Merlin Stone
25.2 Her Little Majesty by Carolly Erikson. I loved this book about Queen Victoria. I think that because her diaries were published and available that a biography will not seem like a textbook - her thoughts about politics and her love for Prince Albert and her feelings about motherhood could be interwoven with the facts of her reign.....and this author does a really nice job of it.
total points: 560
I completed 15-point task 8. I read Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris and read this interview with her: http://www.likesbooks.com/blog/?p=1421This brings me to 410 points!

I finished two books this week, both of which I recommend. For 5 point task #5 - Read a book about sacrifice, I read Peony in Love by Lisa See.
For 10 point task #7 - Read a book recommended by your mom, I read a book that my mom sent me here in Korea called Mr. Darcy's Daughters by Elizabeth Aston. It's as you can guess, about Darcy and Elizabeth's daughters after Pride and Prejudice ends. It was annoying at times because you wonder how in the heck they managed to have such obnoxious children, but still a good book.

What an astonishing, amazing book. I am in awe of the author who has had an extraordinary life. Her story, which summarizes her relationship to Islam and political systems, also provokes an internal debate on the role of fate and free will in our lives. Definitely a Top Book.
