message 2: by Abbie (new)

Abbie Spica | 5 comments It is important to know and analyze our audience before, during, and after the presentation to determine if we are taking the rights steps to appeal to their interests. For example, If the audience is either conservative or liberal, we would want to analyze how they felt about a new proposal before we presented to see how we could persuade them to change their mind.

message 3: by Maddy (new)

Maddy Peters | 8 comments We should analyze our audience before, during, and after our presentation because is it important to know our audience. When doing a presentation, we want to address certain points that will appeal to the audience's concern and not add details that are unrealated to the audience.

message 4: by Cammy (new)

Cammy Means | 3 comments Knowing those things about your audience you can make your presentation more relatable and understandable for that audience!

message 5: by Tristan (new)

Tristan Woods (swag1) | 23 comments It is important to analyze our audience before hand because different people appeal to different things. If you write a speech that only appeals to a third of an audience, you did not analyze them well.

message 6: by Jia (new)

Jia | 7 comments To get to know our audience before, during, and after presentation is important because it gives us an idea of what is appropriate and what can be applied to the audience. For example, we can use different tones for different types of audiences.

I agree Jordan(: We want to persuade the audience to agree with us and knowing what we're dealing with will help.

message 8: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Zokoe | 8 comments It is important to know and analyze our audience before, during, and after presentation in order to understand their view on the subject. That way, we can present our case in a way that relates to the audience in a positive way; in hope that they will also take our view.

Hi Mrs. Miles :)

message 10: by Katey (new)

Katey It's important to know and analyze our audience because then writing will be more effective. If we do a good enough job at analyzing and then applying what we learned, then the audience will be more likely to take our side on a topic.

message 11: by Smitty (new)

Smitty | 4 comments It is important to know the audience so then the speaker knows exactly how to appeal to them and what diction to use that they will understand the most. It can also help the speaker be prepared for what kind of questions they might ask if they know their audience.

Alyssa Zokoe | 8 comments Abbie wrote: "It is important to know and analyze our audience before, during, and after the presentation to determine if we are taking the rights steps to appeal to their interests. For example, If the audience..."

I completely agree! I wrote something similar. :)

Maddy Peters | 8 comments Cammy wrote: "Knowing those things about your audience you can make your presentation more relatable and understandable for that audience!"

Good point, I would not want to view a presentaion totally unrealated to my life in any way.

I agree with Jordan because in order to persuade an audience or to convince an audience, you need to know their views on things

message 16: by Denny (new)

Denny Bui We need to know our audience or else what we say may alienate them or our point may not get across to them.

message 17: by Claire (new)

Claire Ross | 8 comments It is important to know and analyze audience so that we have a purpose for speaking. If you're speaking to an audience that supports something, like same-sex marriage, and as a speaker, you talk about how much you oppose it, your audience won't react well and won't want to listen to what you have to say. You can also offend people by talking about your opposing view to them. It's important to know your audience, so you can get them on your side and effectively persuade them.

message 18: by Dzanna (last edited Oct 25, 2012 05:37AM) (new)

Dzanna Sprecic | 8 comments It is important to know and analyze our audience before, during, and after presentation in order to know as a presenter, what the audience is looking for and appeal to their wants. For example, if one were to have a presentation about a local oil spill, they would want to analyze how the residents are feeling and how to persuade them into looking at the situation more positively.

Abbie is right in the sense that all people have different views. You need to analyze them in order to present a good, persuasive argument.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

It is important to know and analyze our audience because it let's us appeal to them in the best way possible. Knowing their opinions on your topic let's you know what side to take if there is a bias, and allows you to give the best information to the audience.

message 28: by Denny (new)

Denny Bui Tristan wrote: "It is important to analyze our audience before hand because different people appeal to different things. If you write a speech that only appeals to a third of an audience, you did not analyze them..."

agreed, it really alienates those that didn't understand

Claire Ross | 8 comments Maddy wrote: "We should analyze our audience before, during, and after our presentation because is it important to know our audience. When doing a presentation, we want to address certain points that will appeal..."

Exactly. We also don't want them to be on our side, not oppose us.

message 31: by Matthew (new)

Matthew | 8 comments If a speaker fails to take into account the point of view of the audience, the presentation can go awry quickly. Speaking to an audience that doesn't support your argument requires much more persuasive language than speaking to one that does.

message 32: by Christian (new)

Christian (C-NAZZT) | 4 comments Understanding an audience is important because a speaker would find it helpful when either trying to persuade the audience on a topic or inform them on another. That way, a speaker is able to appeal to an audience's likes and dislikes and also make themselves seem creditable.

message 38: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (Rachewmarie) | 8 comments If you don't know your audience, your presentation is bound to be unsuccessful. You must understand where the audience stands, how they feel and what they want in order to make them feel like you are going to meet their needs. Fore example, if you don't know that a group of people are very nervous about something, so you do nothing to sooth those fears, then you as a speaker will not be able to win over your audience for that point.

Good job connecting what we are learning to the real world.

message 41: by James (new)

James | 3 comments It is important to analyze and know our audience because context is always important. Before a presentation, it is very important to know the audience in preparing a speech or presentation. During the presentation, the audience is expecting you to talk to them about something they have backgrouund knowledge about, or give them new information slowly. Context is a must. After, the audience will react according.

Lisa Le | 8 comments It's important to know our audience so we can relate to them before, during, and after a presentation. If we don't understand where our audience is coming from or what they stand for, we may offend them and the presentation would lose it's effectiveness. We want to keep the interest of the audience.
