Ella | 108 comments Susan, I also had my crockpot gong today. Made a beef chili but used a little too much "death" sauce. Our mouths are tingling and noses are running! We have great fish here in RI. In the summer ill go down to the coast and get lobsters cheap right from the lobster boats at the docks. Fortunately we do a have a local fish market that gets fresh catch every day. We have fish once a week...try to anyway.

Alondra we really don't eat red meat much either accept for the occasional pork. We mostly eat fish and chicken. When we have pasta meals we use the ground turkey instead of beef as well.

We were watching the weather out your way. That long band of storms was crazy!

Alondra Miller @Susan; not with the chain grocery stores. Wally-World doesn't have the separate butcher area anymore, and Harris Teeter (harris-cheater) is way across town. Not sure if they serve fresh anymore either.

@Janie, we might start incorporating ground turkey; the last i tasted with it as a substitution; was yummy.

It really is pretty good. We use the Jenny-O, the Honeysuckle brand was horrible. You can also find it in Mexican/fiesta style and they have an Italian style that we use for our spaghetti that is real good too.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Y'all do know that pork is considered white meat, right? :-)

4:58 p.m. EST Well, that didn't work so well. back to liquids. Must work this week... Which makes me sad (the liquids thing) 'cause I really was hoping I'd feel well enough to go eat something substantial today.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments Lol. Katy stole my words!

Janie, I've used the Honeysuckle turkey, and it was just fine for me. Wonder if you got a bad turkey? Lol

4:32 PM. Whew!!!! I went to the grocery store, came home, put up the groceries, cleaned the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher, picked up the living room, swept the house (we only have wood floors), started laundry, cleaned my bathroom, and somewhere in there we ran to Sonic for a Sprite Zero with pineapple since I am sweating my butt off! Going to read and relax for a bit before I make curry chicken, jasmine rice, and egg rolls for dinner. Dad will be here in a bit.

I've always hated housework other than laundry. Of course with my health problems now I can't even do that. Oh, well, leaves me more time to read, right? LOL

6:10PM So went out and played football, then Kay and I took a walk to the playground. Now having a cup of coffee. Checked my review channel and wow I have 18 subscribers. :/ wish it were better. So now I am gonna do my workout and then read Miss Peregrine.

Kathryn, I don't think it was bad because we had gotten it several times. I guess we just did not like the taste of it. We noticed the difference when the one time we could only find the jennie-o and it just tasted better.

Oh man..., I just finished dinner and my mouth is watering for fresh lob and crab. Lol. Cleaning out the sinuses is important every now and then. Keeps the heart healthy.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 8:51 PM. I'm watching the Broncos and Chiefs. Go Broncos! Dinner was soooooooooo good. I wish I could have you all over for dinner on Sundays. The house is clean, dinner is done and cleaned up, Gizmo is sitting on me, and I'm thinking about a nice cup of hot coffee and reading. My feet and my right ankle are aching because I've been on my feet and running around. Maybe Mark can massage them for me. :)

Rachel, Haha!! Funny you say that...I almost went to culinary arts school before I decided to go to college. There is just a lot of risk, so I didn't go. My sister-in-law's sister went to culinary school, and I don't know if it's what she focused on, which I think is more like the baking and pastry aspect which I wouldn't do, but she doesn't have a very good job and struggled to find a job afterwards. I guess there are positives and negatives to everything. Cooking is one of my biggest passions. I love to cook for my family and I wish I had more friends who could come over for dinner.

Janie, oh okay! I have noticed the Honeysuckle one tends to really breakdown into almost mush. haha! By the way, we should plan another book trip!!! :)

10:15PM So I am relaxing and reading Miss Peregrine. Need to get back to Ashes to Ashes after that one. Also wanna squeeze in The Kite Runner and Reinventing Rachel. Also wanna start on some Patricia Cornwell. Will I ever get them all squeezed in? LOL

Aeverie is not coming tonight, they will bring him out tomorrow. Wednesday is his birthday, but having his party on Saturday. Can't believe he will be 4! Time sure does fly.

Kathryn I am always up for a book trip with you! I love it! We definitely need to plan for another date soon!

7:49AM Kay stayed home today. Pretty sure it is allergies that have her down. It was kicking her butt this weekend and I was hoping she would feel better today. No such luck. Hopefully she will get to feeling better tomorrow. She is certainly her Father's daughter when it comes to allergies. So gonna read some more this AM, already have the laundry going. So that should be done in the next couple of hours.

message 8119: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 11:00 AM. Gooood morning, GR! I slept in a bit this morning. I think I wore myself out yesterday, but it also means I got stuff done. I finally got out of bed at 10, got the coffee pot brewing, and made two eggs and two pieces of bacon. Probably not the healthiest breakfast ever, but it sounded good and like something which would give me some energy. Now, I'm wide awake! I need to get more laundry going so I can hopefully get it all done today. I'm so glad I most of my chores done yesterday so now I can read and I don't have to go anywhere. :)

Janie, I hope Kay feels better! My allergies have been kicking up within the last few days with the weather playing games on us. By the way, want to do my laundry, too? I'll sort it for you....haha! As for the book trip, just let me know when you want to meet up! :)

12:33PM Just had lunch and Hub just got home. Kayla ate so she is feeling a little better I think. No fever so I am thinking it really is allergies. Just gonna do leftovers for dinner this evening.

Kathryn I think she is feeling better now so that is good. She actually ate some lunch. As far as the bookstore trip, let me know what time works well for you. For me as far as the day I would say any day between thurs-Sat. Time wise if Thursday or Friday after 2:30. On Sat that can be anytime actually.

Alondra Miller 7:51pm ET. Really dragging this evening, after about 4 hours of sleep last night, and working all day today.

started the Kite Runner and it is pretty good so far. the lead character Amir is a little jealous thing, isn't he?? i am getting tugged into this book, and the author isn't bashing me over the head with the information either. liking it so far..

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments 11.39 AM Feeling great today! Got up at 6 AM to go for a run and I'm so glad I did! My 4 mile route that used to only take me 35-40 minutes took me 50 minutes which was a little disappointing, but hopefully it won't take me long to get back to my old level of fitness. It's amazing how much more energy I have and it makes me wonder why I've been putting it off.

Alondra, glad you're enjoying The Kite Runner so far, you are so right about Amir's character!

Hope you all have a great night/day :)

8:08PM Aves came about 2:30. he took a short nap about 5:00PM We just finished watching King Kong. I love that movie even though it is sad too. Aves says King Kong is just a big monkey! LOL He makes me smile! So now I am gonna read some more wanna finish this book by tomorrow, so I can start The Kite Runner and work on Ashes to Ashes some more.

Chris good to see you posting. I know it must be rough not having time with the family. I know when hub was working 6 day weeks a few years back he hated not being home. Hopefully soon your schedule with work itself out.

Alondra, glad you are enjoying The Kite Runner, that gives me hope that I too will enjoy it. Just can't start it quite yet.

Michelle that is one thing I like most about working out too, the energy I feel now. I wish they would quit grading our roads and laying new stone down because I can't run on that. So I run some laps around the court at the playground, besides my work outs.

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments Janie, that's great that you have somewhere nearby that you can go. My hip gives me a bit of grief running on the bitumen, but working in an office all day I just love getting outside - I'm so thankful to live where I do, surrounded by such beautiful scenery - the hills, the ocean, the vineyards - I really have no excuse for not doing it more often.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 11:37 PM. Okay, so it's been kind of a weird day. I decided to start a book review channel on Youtube. Let's just say, if you have never done this before, it can take some time, especially on a MAC. Part of the reason for it being difficult is because I couldn't figure out how to add slides to the two videos, without changing the format. And the format wasn't acceptable for Youtube. Anyways, so I got them uploaded without the extra slides, and then got a small workout. After I got done with my workout, I had started to cook dinner, then Mark walked into the door. He said he had a sweet surprise for me. This "sweet surprise" was a flu shot! What a butthead. He did say he took off tomorrow, Thursday, and part of Friday because the hospital is slow. I guess that makes up for the shot, but now my arm aches. Oh well, at least he did it to protect me from the flu and we get some extra time together. Dinner was pretty easy and good, and we watched the rest of the football game. I got a shower, and now I'm here eating Cuties (mandarines). I'm going to read here in a bit.

8:04AM So I decided to not go back and lay down this AM. Instead I got some breakfast and made a cup of coffee and came here. I want to finish Miss Peregrines today but Aves is here so we will see. Kay is feeling much better so she went to school. Aeverie just got up and wanted to watch King Kong. I also discovered we have 2 separate copies. Hmmm? How did that happen? So I will send a copy home with him.

Katy, so sorry to hear you're still struggling with pain and sleeplessness. Hope it gets better.

Chris, so good to see you post! I know you miss your family, especially with the holidays. Just remember how worth it it will ultimately be.

1:21pm EST. Haven't posted in a while, just trying to catch up with everyone. Still struggling with family problems (my older son). It's a constant stress and it makes it hard to read and hard to sleep. Starting to plan the Thanksgiving menu--what fun! (I love to cook!) Can't wait to see my younger son next week--we don't see him too often, he lives 4 hours away in Cleveland. I've been concentrating my reading on 19th century novels and Japanese fiction, and I'm really enjoying it.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 4:17 PM. Just got home a bit ago from doing some running around with Mark. We bought a few Christmas presents for his brother's kids, then had lunch at Chik-Fil-A. We ran to a few other places, then...we went to the grocery store and bought our TURKEY!!!! So excited!! It's a Butterball and 17 pounds. We also bought a few other things for Thanksgiving, like pecans, butter, pie crusts, etc. So, all I really have left to buy are the fresh things I'm going to cook: green beans, celery, carrots. While we were out, we also bought a cute toy for the kitties. We haven't bought them anything in quite a while, and this toy was too cute! It's a toy hamster in a plastic ball, and it spins the ball around so the cats can chase it. They are quite mesmerized by it at the moment. I think I might read, or even try to work on this video stuff for a bit. Maybe I will go ahead and get my workout in.

Terri, I'm glad you like cooking, too! Cooking is a relaxer for me, actually. :) Missed you!
